Fresh, well-made, no complaints. Service was attentive and friendly. Left happy. Sunday I brought my daughter before heading to a show. We ordered the spicy salmon roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a sushi and sashimi combo plate to share. Everything was fresh and delicious -- the fish was clean and the rolls were well-constructed. The combo plate was generous and beautifully presented. Service on Sunday was a little rough -- they had just opened and were clearly still getting into gear -- but honestly, the food made up for it and I wasn't in a rush to hold it against them. Wild Rice is a solid, unpretentious neighborhood sushi spot with great prices and fresh fish. For Fairfield, it punches above its weight. Stopped into Wild Rice for the first time to try while the area. The interior was very clean, somewhat small and laid out for lunch dining. A fairly standard menu offering with the exception of some interesting special rolls. I ordered a Sashimi 4 Me, Botan Ebi Nigiri & Jasmine Hot Tea. The Sashimi dinner came with a choice of soup or salad. The Sashimi was all very fresh, vibrant in color and properly presented along with the delicious Ebi. The customer service on the other hand was fairly un attentive and seemed to be a bit behind on handling the take out customers coming in, but still a timely sit down lunch from my experience. We used to go to the prior Fairfield location and always had a good experience. Am pleased to say that upon going to their new Fairfield spot, it's still excellent. They managed to retain their chef and it shows...we had the beef chow fun and pork with string bean & garlic sauce dishes and they were delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive and the dishes came out quickly. It's a cozier setting than the prior building and we liked it. Also, quite affordable for this quality. Wild Rice used to be our absolute favorite Asian fusion restaurant in town, but since it has reopened in its new location it is highly disappointing. The beef sticks were not enjoyable, barely grilled, and no flavor. The pork dumplings have more scallion than pork. The pad thai is very spicy - I'm not used to pad that being spicy at all, and it was very dry. The fried rice is okay. It's not what it used to be and we've tried a few times. read more

My friend and I stopped at Wild Rice in Fairfield for some sushi last week. Upon studying the menu we decided to get Pad Thai instead. We also got a roll of spicy tuna sushi and a seaweed salad. This was all to share of course. Wild Rice is in downtown Fairfield. You can sit inside or outside. They normally have specials for lunch, but not on Sundays or holidays. We got Chicken Pad Thai, which was a very large portion. It came with crushed peanuts, and very tender and finely cut chicken. Being unaware of how large the Pad Thai would be, we also got seaweed salad, which had a bit of a kick to it, it was delicious, and the perfect serving for sharing. Lastly we got a roll of spicy tuna. It was very weak. I've for sure had much better sushi in the past. It may not have been fresh this time, something was off about it. The Pad Thai was so delicious, it was fresh, flavorful and very filling. The peanuts and lemon juice were an excellent combo in this dish. The service was very quick and pleasant. I had dinner here with my husband and in-laws a couple of weeks back, and it was absolutely delicious! We were visiting family in the area and my father-inlaw recommended for us to come here as he has been multiple times. We ordered the summer rolls for an appetizer, with their Szechuan dumplings. I love summer rolls and theirs were fresh and crisp. The dumplings were definitely the best I have ever had as they were served in a peanut sauce which I love. We also had the general tso's chicken, and the string beans. All of the food was delicious and did not disappoint. We left with very happy bellies lol. I am not typically an aficionada of Asian food, although I often like it. This place is check, check, and check! Foods = delicious! Portion size = enormous (like 2 or 3 meals in 1 serving!) Prices = bargain Location = top in Downton Fairfield Service = courteous Atmosphere = nice and big, but can be overcrowded at peak hours. Can get uncomfortably overcrowded. You may need to wait a little on days like Friday or Saturday night where so many people go out for dinner in Fairfield downtown at the same time. The place can get packed during then, but otherwise should be fine during regular days. What stands out as so stellar for me from this place remains the food, from simple appetizers to classics like Pad Thai, to exquisite desserts. I didn't expect it initially, Bravo. read more

During quarantine I decided to try Wild Rice out after years of dining in and everything was fantastic! The presentation was even beautiful. We got "sushi 4 me" which is 8 pieces of nigiri & spicy tuna roll -- the freshest fish I have had in a while especially during quarantine and for to-go! My boyfriend loved the lobster Rangoon so much he wouldn't stop talking about it for days (haha) they were so creamy and even delicious re-heated after we got home! I personally loved the kani salad... perfect amount of dressing to crab/cucumber and the flavor was spot on! It honestly felt not like to-go and as if we were dining in the restaurant that's how fresh everything really was! Good food, happy wife. After deciding that we wanted Asian cuisine we found ourselves at wild rice. It wasn't busy and we were seated quickly but the wait staff took about 10 minutes to come take our drink orders. The drinks were on the money, I had the Long Vacation which is a nice tropical drink in my opinion and a Kirin beer to follow. The food was good, and tasteful and packed with good flavors. The spicy tuna pizza was a major win due to not being able to find these ingredients often together. I had the general tso chicken which was a safe choice. My wife had the chicken and broccoli and could not stop talking about how good the garlic sauce was. Overall wild rice was a good visit, the staff could be a bit more friendly and not to pushy as when they gathered our plates to pack them, immediately in the blank of an eye the bill was placed on the table not leaving any room to order any dessert coffee or tea. read more

I stumbled upon this place after a bad day and wanting a nice glass of wine. It wasn't even my first choice, really. But the minute I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Really some of the best sushi I've had around. They have a great selection of white wines as well. I ordered the mandarin chicken, and shared some steamed pork dumplings with my friend, who ordered sushi. Service for food was pretty fast, but I would have been surprised if it were not (as we came at 3:30pm, and the restaurant was empty except 4+ employees). The chicken was pretty, and decently good, and deserved a 4/5 rating - about as good as expected. I was disappointed that the breading was very thick and too crunchy (thick and soft or thin and crunchy would be better). My main complaints are that (a) the server didn't pay attention to our waters even though we were the only customers in the restaurant, and once it took 8-10 minutes for him to refill them (2/5) and (b) the food was about 20-30% more expensive than it probably should have been, which I guess isn't too surprising given the area. I don't count this against the restaurant, given the circumstances. The main redeeming factor was that the dumplings were amazing. Had I tasted them before ordering my other food, I would have just ordered more dumplings instead. I very highly suggest them (6/5). An additional thing to note: there was really nice looking outside seating on the sidewalk. We didn't sit outside because it was 85º and humid, but I would consider it next time. My boyfriend and I come here at least once a month. It's one of our favorite spots. I don't know what they do to their Yaki Udon but it's the best I've ever had and I have a hard time ordering anything else. The few times I have strayed from my favorite, I've never been disappointed. The wasabi shumai is a must! I've never seen anything but normal shumai anywhere else. The wasabi gives it a great kick! My one complaint...service has gone down recently. They tend to be less friendly and at times a bit slower to approach the table. And please bring back the pickled vegetables that we used to get at the beginning of the meal! My boyfriend and I love those and we never get them anymore! :( read more

I went here again yesterday and had another amazing experience . Ordered the shrimp shumai which should get some kind of award because it's the best ever. Also ordered lots of different kind of sashimi and it was out of this world delicious- and the pieces are very generous, which doesn't seem to happen very often at other places. My friend had the pork fried rice and that was excellent too. Great portion sizes - but you actually get what you pay for and then some! The drinks were another big hit nice and strong and TASTY. Nice little place I think the food is good and the prices are decent especially if you hit all all you can eat at lunchtime is only 1390 done otherwise it's $20 which is still not bad if you consider getting a huge plate of fresh seafood sushi. After spending almost all day trying to decide where to go for dinner in the Fairfield area, my parents remembered Wild Rice. My husband & I had never been there, so we took a look at the menu and said "sounds good." We were seated immediately on a nice table on the sidewalk (chairs aren't the most comfortable) and the waitress immediately showed up to take our order. We weren't quite ready, and she definitely hovered, but eventually we knew what we wanted and were all set. The two appetizers we shared - the edamame and pork dumplings (my fave!) - were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. And arrived promptly! It's hard to mess up edamame, so I wasn't too surprised. But the dumplings were crispy on the outside and super tender and full of flavor on the inside. I'm still drooling! My dad got an eel and cucumber (I think?) roll, which he said was amazing. I sampled his dish - I can't remember exactly what it was and they don't have a menu online... Some sort of thin noodle dish. My husband got Chicken Pad Thai, which had no peanut taste whatsoever and wasn't as sweet as we like our Pad Thai to be. It wasn't bad at all - it just wasn't Pad Thai. My mom & I shared String Beans in a Spicy Garlic Sauce (the brown rice had a purple-ish color and was definitely on the crunchy side), which was fantastic. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal (I was COMPLETELY stuffed after), even if the Pad Thai wasn't exactly what we expected. If I could give WILD RICE zero stars, I would, but they Yelp system will not allow that. I stopped eating at WILD RICE two years ago when we both got food poisoning and were sick for days. We did not know that it was WILD RICE, because one of the thee visits, we had lunch earlier in the day. So we were uncertain of the origin of the food poisoning. However, on two subsequent visits, we became very sick after eating at this Fairfield restaurant. And realized that WiLD RICE was where we got food poisoning. Both dates, we had not eaten at all and went to WILD RICE, only to get sick. Why did we return on a second occasion, if we were convinced that we got sick possibly on the first time eating there and MOST CERTAINLY on the second occasion? The woman behind the counter started to say something and I couldn't hear her she had her mask on so I said "I'm sorry I can't hear you" and theguy behind the counter spins my bag around with the receipt stapled to it and shoves it at me and says in a very harsh rude tone.."THIS IS THE PRICE!" and turns to walk away. I said excuse me sir "you don't have to be so rude I'm the customer here that's not how you talk to people" and he put up his hand (like the stop hand) and turned around and walked away! I was stunned!!! I just stood there in shock! I said "this is the last time I ever step foot in this place!" And I walked out. UNBELIEVABLE!! I don't know who that guy was but I don't know how they operate with people like that working there. I was amazed.. This guy treated me like garbage! Like I was bothering him. Then, one day last September we found Wild Rice and now all is right with the universe. The Walnut Chicken and Shrimp is out of this world - fantastic! We've been back four times since then.
