The front of Wild Rice

My friend and I stopped at Wild Rice in Fairfield for some sushi last week. Upon studying the menu we decided to get Pad Thai instead. We also got a roll of spicy tuna sushi and a seaweed salad. This was all to share of course. Wild Rice is in downtown Fairfield. You can sit inside or outside. They normally have specials for lunch, but not on Sundays or holidays. We got Chicken Pad Thai, which was a very large portion. It came with crushed peanuts, and very tender and finely cut chicken. Being unaware of how large the Pad Thai would be, we also got seaweed salad, which had a bit of a kick to it, it was delicious, and the perfect serving for sharing. Lastly we got a roll of spicy tuna. It was very weak. I've for sure had much better sushi in the past. It may not have been fresh this time, something was off about it. The Pad Thai was so delicious, it was fresh, flavorful and very filling. The peanuts and lemon juice were an excellent combo in this dish. The service was very quick and pleasant. I'd come here again, for the Pad Thai and the seaweed salad.

I am not typically an aficionada of Asian food, although I often like it. This place is check, check, and check! Foods = delicious! Portion size = enormous (like 2 or 3 meals in 1 serving!) Prices = bargain Location = top in Downton Fairfield Service = courteous Atmosphere = nice and big, but can be overcrowded at peak hours. Can get uncomfortably overcrowded. You may need to wait a little on days like Friday or Saturday night where so many people go out for dinner in Fairfield downtown at the same time. The place can get packed during then, but otherwise should be fine during regular days. What stands out as so stellar for me from this place remains the food, from simple appetizers to classics like Pad Thai, to exquisite desserts. I didn't expect it initially, Bravo.

During quarantine I decided to try Wild Rice out after years of dining in and everything was fantastic! The presentation was even beautiful. We got "sushi 4 me" which is 8 pieces of nigiri & spicy tuna roll -- the freshest fish I have had in a while especially during quarantine and for to-go! My boyfriend loved the lobster Rangoon so much he wouldn't stop talking about it for days (haha) they were so creamy and even delicious re-heated after we got home! I personally loved the kani salad... perfect amount of dressing to crab/cucumber and the flavor was spot on! It honestly felt not like to-go and as if we were dining in the restaurant that's how fresh everything really was! Props for that during a pandemic -- highly highly recommend for dining in or to-go in the Fairfield area!!!

The Pho comes with complimentary black hair! Disgusting and disappointing.

I am SO disappointed. I was just delving into pho tonight from Wild Rice and when I was about to take my first bite of noodles I was met with a black hair. My meal has been unfortunately ruined. I hope Wild Rice enjoys the $30.00 of charity that my family has given to Wild Rice tonight because the meal and evening have been ruined. Wild Rice, you have lost a customer. What a shame. I am truly saddened and disappointed by the lack of sanitary precautions. I was so looking forward to this meal, but now I will never be walking into the doors of Wild Rice again.

Heaven!

I went here again yesterday and had another amazing experience . Ordered the shrimp shumai which should get some kind of award because it's the best ever. Also ordered lots of different kind of sashimi and it was out of this world delicious- and the pieces are very generous, which doesn't seem to happen very often at other places. My friend had the pork fried rice and that was excellent too. Great portion sizes - but you actually get what you pay for and then some! The drinks were another big hit nice and strong and TASTY. Service was very attentive . If your looking for excellent sushi / Asian food look no more - this is the spot. This place is my new #1 spot for sushi. Don't think twice just try it out you won't regret it!

My boyfriend and I come here at least once a month. It's one of our favorite spots. I don't know what they do to their Yaki Udon but it's the best I've ever had and I have a hard time ordering anything else. The few times I have strayed from my favorite, I've never been disappointed. The wasabi shumai is a must! I've never seen anything but normal shumai anywhere else. The wasabi gives it a great kick! My one complaint...service has gone down recently. They tend to be less friendly and at times a bit slower to approach the table. And please bring back the pickled vegetables that we used to get at the beginning of the meal! My boyfriend and I love those and we never get them anymore! :(

Lunch sushi special

Amazing sushi place!! I ordered the lunch sushi special (pictured below) and it was delicious! It came with amazing miso soup! For an appetizer, we got sesame noodles! They were so delicious and the sauce was authentic and mouth watering. We also ordered the chicken fried rice and it was delicious. The veggies were crispy! The waiters are super kind and helpful! Overall, great place for lunch and dinner! Definitely recommend!

Mandarin chicken is pretty.

Pretty bland decor. There are at most 11 tables plus a small counter style area for another half dozen patrons The chairs are also not that great but that is a matter of preference. Personally I hate those half back designs with cheap metal and plastic MENU - it's not that large for lunch and frankly my friend did the ordering so I didn't really see it SERVICE - this was 5 star for me. Both the waitress and bus lady were attentive and congenital APPETIZERS - we experimented with the dumplings (fried in spicy oil) they were terrific We tried their chicken wings, they were good. They came with only 4 per serving and had a lollipop cut in an unusual more vinegar tasting sauce Tried their chicken wings spare ribs that were decent but over cooked. Even though the seasoning was different and tasty ENTREES - we tried their special fried rice which was excellent. I liked the whole fried egg on top as a unique garnish LIBATIONS - not a lot of variety but the Sapporo beer in the big cans were Muy bueno PRICE - hard to say because beer was probably more than food. The bill for two people with a 20% tip was $120

The shop looks small from the outside, but once you step in, it's surprisingly spacious. Clean, well-lit, and nicely laid out. Comfortable for dining in. We were seated immediately. Our hostess, Amber, was very patient and helpful since it was our first time. We decided to order a little bit of everything, and that was the right move. We went with the five-piece drumsticks, split half soy garlic and half Korean BBQ. The chicken is double-fried, which gives it an incredible crunch on the outside while staying juicy inside. The soy garlic was savory with a touch of sweetness and very well balanced. The Korean BBQ had more heat and bold flavor, coated in a sticky, sweet-spicy glaze that keeps you going back for more. The meal came with coleslaw, which honestly surprised me. I'm not usually a coleslaw person, but this one worked. Lightly sweet, creamy, and refreshing. It paired well with the chicken and helped cut through the richness. We also ordered the seasoned fries, and they were excellent. Crispy, well-seasoned, and topped with garlic, parmesan, and parsley that actually added flavor instead of just looking good. Easily one of the better fry sides I've had with fried chicken. Everything came out hot, fresh, and clearly made with care. If you've never had Korean fried chicken before, Bonchon is a great place to start. I'll definitely be back.

They came warm, soft, and coated in cinnamon sugar with a sweet cream dipping sauce. Honestly some of the best donuts I've had, they were fresh, warm, and delicious. I'd come back just for those alone. I heard their fried chicken is good, so I'll definitely be back to try it. But those donuts? 10/10. Would absolutely recommend.

Ive been there for dinner time as well, it's lively, loud in a good way, and immediately feels like somewhere you could stay for hours. The broth was the star of the dish its deep, rich, savory, and layered with that perfect balance of umami and subtle sweetness from the miso and a bit nitty form the sesame seeds. The noodles had the perfect texture: chewy, springy, and able to hold onto the broth beautifully. Nothing was overcooked or mushy . What impressed me most was how balanced the ramen was. Some ramen spots go overboard with salt or spice, but this bowl felt refined. Rich but not greasy. Flavorful but not overpowering. You could tell there was actual technique behind it. Asked for some special favors from the hostess and she was more than accommodating. Our server, Julia was phenomenal. She gave us some time to socialize, choose our meals and looked after us as if we were her only table (while taking care of a couple other tables at the same time). Shanghai Gourmet Regular…read more I eat at Shanghai Gourmet every Monday for months now. The owner(s) always greet me with a smile and already know my order, but still ask if i'll be having the usual. Let me start by saying i am very picky, particular and OCD about my food (and most other things) and Shanghai Gourmet has yet to disappoint in dozens of trips. "The Usual": Wok-seared Chicken in Garlic Sauce, extra sauce on side (important) with Mixed Veggies (Freshly sliced daily, NOT canned!) and brown rice. Won Ton soup is included for the lunch special. Let me just say, EVERY week it comes out the same; Very Hot, perfectly seared, just firm enough steamed veggies and al dente steamed rice which goes great with a sprinkle of the garlic sauce on the top. The Garlic Sauce is spicy, but not overbearing. It has fresh sliced jalapeños and garlic, along with red pepper flake. Find that at another Chinese restaurant. It is great on the side to add to rice and a little extra for the entree (highly recommend, adds great flavor). Veggies are hand chopped daily and never frozen. I highly recommend getting the veggies over the Green Beans that come with the menu-based Garlic Chicken. Green beans are good, but the mixed veggies just add so much to the dish. Soups are all freshly made. I get the Won Ton. The won tons are handmade and very light. I find this pleasing and not over-filling. Fresh scallions garnish the soup and add a nice flavor. Overall A+ experience. Great food, Fair Prices, and fantastic service. I highly recommend and i refer people to try it as often as i can. Hope this review helped and ENJOY!
