Restaurant has seriously gone downhill. My dining companion and I ordered the same sandwich. Both were inedible. Didn't have the ingredients list in the menu description and the BBQ pork was clearly very old and had been dunked into a salty vat of water only serving to make the baguette soggy. Meat seemed to be dangerously close, if not at, causing illness if consumed. Couldn't get any employee in the establishment to come to the table, even after waving a white napkin (yes we had surrendered all hope) above my head. Left the table after 10/15 minutes of no response and couldn't even get help by waiting at the hostess sound which is very visible to most of the restaurant. Go here only if you need to turn up sick to avoid something dire. read more

Wild Pear catered my mom's 80th birthday party. The food was amazing, fresh, beautiful! We had the sliders, the chicken satay skewers, the mediterranean platter, fruit platter and summer rolls. I was very impressed with Wild Pear fun the start. Even during the lunch rush, it only took about 10 minutes to get seated. Our server, Brooke was friendly, attentive made great suggestions for us to try. We needed some substitutions because we did not like any spicy ingredients. No problem! My BLT was loaded. No skimping here. I truly could only finish half of the sandwich. The hubby's soup was a winner and he loved the pizza. Everything was made fresh in site. We were stuffed and too full for what sounded like delicious desserts. The prices were more than fair. Great Saturday lunch experience here! We felt safe and very distanced from other tables spread out across State Street with plenty of shade provided by ample patio umbrellas. The service was friendly and efficient in a calm, Saturday afternoon pace. Our food was simple: entree salads: fresh, local greens that were lightly dressed with a tangy, sweet citrus dressing. My fav combination. We enjoyed a strawberry cheesecake and fresh hot coffee. It was all good, all reasonably priced. We had waited for 20 minutes thinking someone will notice us, 3 different food service people passed us many times without noticing us not being helped! Wow it was such a trip! We even asked twice to certain people to help us in placing our order and they told us that the waitress is still on her brake! They still didn't help us, what an unexpected response! Man, this is one of my favorite places in Salem. I've had a variety of different things but I ALWAYS get the Butternut Squash Coconut Curry soup. I adore this place and it's delicious eats. The fries are delicious, sandwiches.. I wish I tried more lol I've taken as many people as I can here lol I recently moved out of Salem in April and, due to the pandemic, was unable to say goodbye but I will always remember how I loved to take myself on dates here. My friends and I spent the day at the waterfront and went here on a whim afterward because of the good reviews. It was only a few blocks walk. Decor was very charming and the ambience warm. There were whimsical pear sculptures and paintings everywhere. We waited for our food for about 45 minutes, which was more than anticipated for our kids who were starting to get hangry. The server checked on that for us and gave us some cookies for the trouble, which was a really nice gesture. Food was very fresh and hearty. The curry soup was my favorite. Wonderful texture, silky smooth. It was well seasoned with just a hint of sweetness. There was a lovely design on top. Also ended up getting a chicken pear salad which was delightful. Lots of variety between the bites of chicken and nuts. Well balanced with the sweet and savory, portion was generous. Got some desserts to go. Key lime pie was fantastic. The crust wasn't too thick or thin, tartness and flavor of the filling perfect. Last but not least, I also got an olive oil cake topped with berries. Super moist and flavorful. The berries and whipped topping helped offset the richness with a little tang. Overall really enjoyed this restaurant. Everything was super tasty. I moved down from Portland about thirteen years ago. One thing that was surprisingly disappointing was the lack of restaurant options. Unless you like eating at strip mall restaurants or Mexican food all the time. Wild Pear is easily the best restaurant in town when it comes to variety, service, quality and price. There truly is something for everyone on their menu. I've never known of a restaurant to take on Pho to burgers, and everything in between so consistently well. Excellent salad varieties and rotating specials. The best part is everything is done in unpretentious fashion. The servers have personality and the bar ain't too shabby either. Sweet little lunch spot right downtown Salem. My advice is go early or make a reservation. They fill up quickly. It's a very small space. Very cozy. My lunch was fabulous I had the Jessica burger-it was delicious!! Get an extra side of their garlic aioli to dip your fries in. I also had a side salad which was very fresh. My ice tea was perfect-it was a passion fruit black tea of some sort. My only complaint is the London Fog drink was so sweet it was almost undrinkable. Went here for my bday and it was my second time going? I actually ordered the quiche and was not impressed with mine... the quiche was huge but over cooked... it was just eating rubber for me? Not enough seasoning or anything really... so my bf and my brothers let me try theirs. The steak salad with the pickled onion was nice and refreshing, but price point was a little steep, the lobster melt was pretty good but not sure how much lobster was really used, tasted more shrimp than anything, their sweet potato fries was actually yummy. We did order their fancier fries but I'm not sure if the order was messed up since it looked the same as the other dish. Chose this place after seeing it on a travel guide we picked up at the airport. Our waitress was nice and attentive. She came and checked on us and refilled our water multiple times. Unfortunately food was a pretty disappointing. We got chicken pot pie, lobster and shrimp melt, and coconut curry squash soup (or something similar in naming). The chicken pot pie was so salty my mouth got numb half way thru and I left the rest. Some of the chicken pieces were so tough, it was like chewing on jerky. The lobster and shrimp melt was bland and flavorless. The soup was okie, nothing memorable. Food took so long to get out and they expected customers to dine for 90 mins only when there is a line (if anything the kitchen should be more efficient) Overall, felt like a tourist trap and def not recommended. read more

Definitely 4.5 stars... I knew it was worth the drive when I read the menu... and it was not a waste of time nor was it a let down ... I had been in the mood for a salad for a couple days, the Pear Salad is not a "meal salad" but it was a very nice light salad and when coupled with a sandwich or in my case White Bean Soup.. it was perfect and not heavy at all, I personally have cut salt almost completely out of my life, so I'm sensitive to it, the flavor profile was tremendous and well balanced but there was bacon (or other pork product) and that may have made it seem heavier than I'm used to - but only slightly and I'm sure most people would never have that opinion.. I still highly recommend it and will be back to try more menu items read more
