Willabys catered our wedding last weekend and they were terrific. From early stage planning, to our tasting, to final details and day of--they went above and beyond to make our day special. Willaby's coordinated our rentals as well which was so helpful. The team never made me feel crazy for asking too many questions or double-checking something; instead I always walked away feeling at ease. We did passed apps (people were raving about the steak bites), pizza that was delicious, and the team did our bar. My family keeps saying how kind, friendly, and professional everyone on staff was. We hired Willaby's for our reception meal and it was such a hit!! Everyone was raving about the food - especially the Mac & Cheese and Salmon. The Willaby's team was so wonderful to work with, they were organized, efficient and very helpful with not only catering but with our wedding planner as well! One thing I really appreciated was when I reached out to them last minute to see if they could leave some food items on the side for allergy restrictions and they did! I had Willabys cater my wedding this past weekend and I cannot rave about them enough! As a vegetarian, I have very strong opinions about having high quality food at weddings that caters to a variety of different diets. I've been very disappointed by wedding food in the past, which I didn't want to replicate at my own. Willabys was recommended by our planner, and from the first email I was incredibly impressed by their communication, professionalism, and willingness to tweak the menu to our taste. My fiance and I were blown away at the tasting, which translated well to the actual wedding when I was told "there may have been some fights over the food". Another concern of mine was the quantity of food (running out of food at a wedding is a recipe for disaster), and Willabys ensured that there was plenty to go around. They were also so flexible with our needs. For example, we purchased our own alcohol for the event and they provided the staff to serve at two different bar set ups at the cost of one. In general, they were so affordable as well - we only paid about half of what we had initially budgeted! Finally, what I didn't expect was just how friendly and amazing the Willabys folks would be at our wedding. So many guests commented on how wonderful and outgoing they were, at the bar and otherwise, and I myself had multiple awesome chats with them. 10/10 would have them for any event, and I'm so grateful to have had them at my wedding. read more

Willabys and the owner, Jean, are as good as it gets. They catered our wedding in July 2012 and everything was spot on, spectacular. From the beginning, Jean understood our goals for full service catering and found a great selection of foods that met our budget. She really wanted our business, which made everything much easier. Our tasting was a wonderful experience and the food was simply delightful. Her staff was great at accommodating a few requests for special menus (vegetarian and a gluten free) and used all locally sourced, fresh, organic ingredients. Jean attended our rehearsal and took great care of us, walking everyone through the steps and explaining each part like a seasoned professional. The wedding went off like a dream and everything was as good as promised. Her staff is nice, efficient and very easy going. If we have another event in her area, we will absolutely cater through Willabys again. This is the kind of business that makes you feel good about the money you've spent. read more

Willaby's played a huge role in the smashing success for our wedding ceremony at Youngberg Hill Winery. Willaby's was the caterer recommended by Youngberg. We got married Sept 20, 2013. Jean, from Willaby's, coordinated all the vendors the day of the wedding. The weather transitioned from summer to winter that day. Jean talked me through the options and recognized our priorities then made exactly the right decisions for us. We had a burst of rain an hour before the wedding. The chairs were moved under the tent and wiped dry. Rain stopped a few minutes before the wedding started. Because we had a strong preference to have the ceremony outside on the patio, Jean shuffled the guests outside. The guests stood. We exchanged vows. Everyone went back under the tent. It was perfect execution. And of course, the food was wonderful. Thank you Jean!! read more

Unfortunately, the wedding venue we chose required that we use Jean at Willaby's for our wedding planning services. Jean's service was beyond disappointing. I truly regret not choosing a different venue/wedding planner. My two primary complaints: 1. Jean was consistently unprofessional with regards to money. She never attempted to clarify how much her services would be, and then served us a bill that was much more than the initial information we received from her and the wedding venue. She initially said a tent would cost under 2k, and it ended up costing nearly 4k. I understand sometimes things cost more, that's not the problem, the problem is that she NEVER communicated the change in price until we receive the bill. Then, when we requested a receipt from the tent company she was super defensive and hostile about it - we simply wanted to understand what we were paying 4K for - but for some reason that really upset her. It was weird. 2. She charged a lot for her services and then failed to actually follow through on a bunch of important details: she never clarified the walking order with our procession, I had to do it. She almost forgot to put out some of our party favors - thank god my mom remembered! She failed to move a bunch of flowers from our ceremony décor to our reception table décor even though we'd had explicit instructions about it. She failed to recognize or act when the caterer missed a table where my dad was seated - and claimed that was not her problem when informed about it. My mom had to go into the kitchen to do something about it. I am a small business owner and I cannot believe the level of unprofessionalism of Willaby's. Basic conversations about money and following through on details are how you keep customers satisfied. There's no way Jean would get away with this if she didn't have a captive clientele. All of our other vendors were professional and awesome, I rarely write negative reviews - I'm not a hypercritical person but having unprofessional, unreliable service leading up to the wedding made my wedding day much more stressful. You should really trust your wedding planner to do a good job - that and the venue - are the most important. I wish I understood that when I started planning! read more

Yay for Jean and Shannin of Willaby's Catering! They were absolutely incredible and an integral part of our wedding day! At our venue, we had the option of 4 caterers. We interviewed all of them and were absolutely blown away by Willaby's. I really loved that as part of their service they offer "day-of-coordination." Which saved me from having to find someone else to be sure our day ran smoothly and help cue us down the aisle. There are a lot of details and changes when it comes to weddings and Jean and Shannin helped us figure out some of those little details and were amazing each time I emailed them with ANOTHER minor change. Each time that we went to Salem and sat down with Jean to go over things I walked out of there feeling so much better about the little details. We had Jean come to Grand Hotel in Salem to do our rehearsal. She was great with everyone and we were able to get through the rehearsal quickly with everyone feeling comfortable about what they were supposed to do. On the day of, Shannin was incredible. She was present but not too in your face. She would just kindly come up and remind me that such and such was happening in 10 minutes and then would come grab me when it was time. She was friendly and super personable. The servers were so wonderful, very friendly and one of them just gave me the nicest compliments on my wedding and the guests that were there. Also, my guests have RAVED about the food. We had some appetizers (pear and brie crostini), the gorgonzola chicken, fall veggie pasta. We had some people cancel last minute and I was worried we were going to have extra food. Nope, it was so good, our guests kept going back for more. Willaby's was essential in my big day and mad props and a HUGE thank you to Jean and Shannin for being so awesome. read more

They hit it out of the park for our daughters wedding at Youngberg Hill Winery. The food was excellent and EVERYBODY went back for the mushroom pasta. The service and portions was well planned and everyone went back for as many helpings as they wanted. Willaby's Catering did an exceptional job at catering for our wedding at Youngberg Hill Vineyards this summer. From our first meeting until the very last moments of our wedding night, they were simply amazing! Jean, the owner worked with me from the very beginning to ensure our perfect day. Both Jean and her event manager, Shannin was also super helpful and very responsive throughout all of wedding planning process. On our wedding day, from the minute I arrived at the venue until we were ready to head into our honeymoon suite at the end of the night, I seriously did not have to worry about anything! And the food, all of our guests raved about the food after the event and how great the staff was throughout the whole event. Everything was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious! Not only did they take care of our wedding needs, these ladies were there to help with the rehearsal, ensuring that everyone knew exactly where to go and when. We were forced by our wedding venue Youngberg Hill to work with Willaby's as our 'wedding planner' even though we had already decided not to have them do our catering because their sample food was inedible. As far as wedding planning goes, Willaby's was completely disorganized. It is unbelievable what a racket Willaby's and Youngberg Hill are running...we paid thousands of dollars for a 'wedding planner' but we ended up doing all of the wedding planning with our caterer while the Willaby's folks stood around and didn't do anything useful. Specifically, Jean Mateson was unprofessional bordering on fraud - she charged us by the hour for time she was at another venue taking care of another wedding! It rained heavily the day before our wedding and one area of the venue was a mudpit - when we asked Jean if she thought we could get some flooring to cover the area she was confused and said, 'I never thought of that'. A wedding planner in the Willamette Valley who has never thought of what you need to do in case it rains?! We found her the name of a company to come and install temporary flooring...the examples of ineptitude go on and on. I would avoid Willaby's altogether and get a planner who actually does what you pay them for. read more
