Tamarind Salmon
Erik B.

It's hard to give this spot a two star given its proximity and hard-working staff. But I have to be honest about the food- it just simply was not good. I went with the Thai Tofu salad and Tamarind salmon dishes. The Thai salad was oversaturated with peanut sauce and the lettuce was wilted. Although it had a decent taste, the ingredients just did not seem to mix well. The Tamarind salmon meanwhile came with plenty of good salmon but the vegetables accompanying it were bizarre, including sliced pineapple and celery. The tamarind sauce was good but not special to makeup for the vegetables and overall dish. I'd like to try this restaurant in-person one day and see if the food is any different. Good location though overall.

I've never reviewed this place before and I'm not one to usually only review when I have something negative to say. I've been eating here for about 10 years and always thought the food was pretty damn good. However, today's meal was unfortunately pretty damn bad. I've made better Thai curry at home from a can of paste (they're actually really good!) and I made a bangin Japanese beef curry this week, but I digress. The curry sauce was like soup and didn't have much of a flavor. I tried to get a picture that shows it dripping off my fork like water. The roti canai was also pretty flavorless and not flaky and layered at all and the curry that came with it was just an extremely watered down peanut sauce I think, definitely not the delicious curry that it should come with. Hope this was just an off day. This was a takeout experience but when I've eaten there it's always pretty quiet, perhaps too quiet if business is slipping. Service has always been very attentive and it's dimly lit in a way that I enjoy, not dark but peaceful. I'm also adding photos of a previous good meal I had here. Get it back together, WG.

Very impressed with this restaurant.

Ok......Wild Ginger....was....W-O-W! Discovered it, as we were strolling through Maplewood's Marketspace Vendor Event. The restaurant is nicely decorated and we asked to be seated outside, which was perfect, with today's weather. The service was magnificent, appreciated, and commendable. My beverage selection, Thai Iced Tea, was refreshing and served in a cool glass. Our entrees were oh, so good: Chicken Pad Thai and Papaya Salad. I also ordered the Thai Fried Rice (spicy fried brown rice, egg, onions, basil, peppers, and seasonal vegetables). This Thai Fried Rice is one of the best I've ever tasted. The spiciness of the dish was delectable and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. I will, most definitely, place Wild Ginger on my "best" list and will gladly return.

beef and vegetables on a white plate

Service is fast and pretty good so is the food. I ordered their veggie spring rolls which were perfect. They were just right, their crispy beef was good too however a little tweaking is needed (if you check out Marion Grasby's crispy beef recipe on YouTube and try that it'll take it up a notch). The crispy beef has to be somewhat spicy, and a bit more on the dry side, crispy on the edges and slightly chewy in the center and not overly sweet just a hint of sweetness and somewhat spicy. Even though I liked it, it was more on the sweet side and could be less sweet to bring out the actual flavor. Their rice pudding was excellent - something different and I enjoyed the green tea. Cute spot and not very crowded on a Friday evening.

Five stars for the food. 4.5 for service. Start with the food. By far the best Thai food I've ever had. And will absolutely be returning back for more. Ordered an appetizer to split. Had dumplings and they were the star of the show. The peanut sauce was fantastic. Almost ordered a second dish. Down fall, they didn't serve it with side plates so you were stuck bobbing over one plate in the center. Think the appetizers should be served with side dishes, especially if it's being split. My boyfriend had Pad Thai and I had Pad See Ew. Both fantastic. Very fresh and very full of flavor. The chicken in my dish was excellent. Better than any places I've gotten it from. The entire plates were cleared. That speaks for how good it all was. Downside to this, they served one plate at the time and the other person had to wait for a few minutes. I noticed this for all the tables. Think it would be better if they served them together.

Green Curry

Ugh- green curry should not look like green eggs and ham! They clearly added green dye. The spring rolls lacked crispness and noodles were not spicy enough. This one is done, for my house!

Was craving Thai food for my birthday so we decided to try Wild Ginger for the first time despite it being more expensive. Never again. Let's just say I'm happy I didn't get food poisoning. They charged us the same amount for the papaya salad without the chicken as with which was silly and it was horrible. One bite and we put it back in its container. It was bland, no taste and tasted like it had been sitting out on the countertop for a while. The green curry with tofu smelled a little funny and there was hardly any curry (as you can see) most of it was broccoli and string beans. The tofu had probably gone bad because it smelled funny. The basil with chicken was bland and no taste. All in all, would not recommend. Save your money.

Haven't been here in a while but still the same as before . I like coming here for lunch. The lunch menu is pretty good! I like the yellow curry chicken with brown rice and Tom Kha soup and the coconut water .

Imagine a chinese fast food place trying to sell themselves as an authentic thai restaurant and you get Wild Ginger. The lunch special doesn't even offer thai classics such as Pad Thai or Pad see ew..confusing.. We ordered pad thai with chicken off the regular menu and spicy basil rice which was pretty decent - wouldn't say any better than the joint I get my ordinary fast food chinese from. Pad thai was pretty bland and sloppy. The noodles were bloated (not chewy) and the pad thai lacked any depth or sweetness you normally look forward to. I gave two stars instead of one because the service was prompt and attentive. Food doesn't merit a second visit.

The flavors were pretty good yet the rice was not as fluffy and was too chunky for us. We continue to go many miles out of our way to get Thai and I just hope this place gets it right. This was hands down one of the best meals I've had in ages and probably the top 2 Thai restaurants I've ever been to. We ordered so much food, assuming we would take at least half of it home, but had a hard time stopping and nearly finished it all before we left. The staff was so lovely - happy, friendly people. We had: -Green papaya salad - perfect balance and just the right amount of spice (level 1) -Chicken Larb - level 1 -also perfect -Red curry chicken, substituted the bell peppers with Chinese broccoli - level 2 - perfect heat and consistency of the sauce -Street cabbage - wok charred with a garlicky sauce- such a simple dish but so much flavor. -Thai fried rice - straightforward & delicious 10 out of 10 -no notes. Delicious from start to finish. Next time I'll BYOB. Thank you That's Thai Food - can't wait to come back!

This is a nice quiet spot, nice atmosphere, great service from the waitress. I started off with the chicken dumplings, probably the lowest rating food I had. I'll give it about a three and a half, that's because it was a little too wet. The chicken was solely in the middle, so there's a lot of dumpling, not a lot of chicken, i did enjoy the peanut sauce. Then I had some sambal sauce, vegetables, chicken and white rice on the side. Now that was really, really good. Nice and spicy, a great mix of vegetables, very fresh, very filling, super surprised by that. This establishment honestly deserves to be a lot more crowded than it actually was. It was very empty in there, I was the only table in there. But overall, just great service. In addition to that, I was also able to spin a wheel for spending over 60 bucks and got myself a free drink the next time. Highly recommended, pop out if you're in the area. Great overall. .5

A Second Visit Worth Every Bite!…read more When a restaurant is good enough to bring you back for a second visit, you know they're doing something right! The Millburn Standard in Millburn, New Jersey, has officially earned a spot on my list of places worth revisiting! On my first visit, I enjoyed the street corn, a beautifully presented dish with bok choy, and some delicious lemon drop cocktails. Everything was flavorful, beautifully plated, and definitely made a great first impression. The lemon drops were a perfect addition to the experience! Fast-forward to my second visit, and I was back for more! This time, I ordered the French onion soup, which arrived with that gorgeous golden, melted cheese on top. Rich, comforting, and exactly what I was craving! I also had to order the Thai calamari again because clearly, it made an impression the first time around! Crispy, flavorful, and tossed in a delicious sauce with just the right amount of kick. Definitely one of my favorites! And of course, I couldn't leave without enjoying a latte! Beautifully served, creamy, and the perfect way to round out my visit. Anyone who knows me knows I appreciate a good latte! What I love about The Millburn Standard is the variety of dishes, the presentation, and the inviting atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy cocktails, share a few appetizers, or sit down for a comforting meal. Two visits down, and I'm already looking forward to a third! If you're in the Millburn area, this spot is definitely worth checking out. And take my advice: don't skip the Thai calamari or the French onion soup! Yelp Elite approved!

We used to go to inspiration roll in Morristown but my family thinks we'll be replacing it with Millburn Poke from now on. Portions were definitely smaller than other places but it was still enough for one meal. My bowl had sushi rice, mixed greens, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, mango, seaweed salad, kimchi, masago, edamame, teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo, onion flakes, garlic flakes, and shredded seaweed. The fish tasted super fresh and the mix of the sweet teriyaki and spicy mayo complimented each other very well. At first glance, the mango didn't look super ripe but it tasted good in the mix. Next time, I would not get the kimchi. I've had a lot of kimchi and this one had an odd taste to it in my opinion. I took it out of my bowl. I have no comment on the atmosphere or service because we did takeout but the food was ready when they said it would be! Price point was good for a nice portion of fish (~$15). Definitely will be coming back here for takeout in the future.
