I went here last night with my younger daughter, her 10 year old sister, and their mother. We had a wonderful visit. The couple of workers that I interacted with seemed very nice and professional. They seemed to know their items, and the food all came out very good! The inside of the restaurant was clean. Nobody else was inside, so we had the place to ourselves. It appears the drive thru was busy. We ordered a #7 combo since there were four of us. It came with four corn dogs, four chili dogs (which we made all beef and added cheese), and four chili cheese fries. Separately, we all had different fountain drinks. My drink of choice was 3/4 Mr. PIBB mixed with Coke. I had one refill of the same while we were there. To go, I filled up once more with a lemonade. The others had Fanta Orange soda and root beer. Before we left, three of us four wanted some dessert. I ordered two chocolate Sundaes for two of the others, and I shared a Reeses shake with my daughter. Over it was poured a generous ladle of chili, rich in hue if not in subtlety, and topped with cheese that shone like the setting sun on a battlefield. A picturesque dish, to be sure, but one that seemed to mock my old-world sensibilities with its modern effrontery. The chili, bold and brash, made no apologies for its heavy-handed seasoning, while the cheese clung to the wiener as a soldier clings to his shield. For what I paid for this singular wiener, I might have procured an entire hog in my day, fed it on acorns, and fashioned sausages of superior quality and quantity. To pay so dearly for a morsel so modest in size and dignity felt like a betrayal of frugality, though I confess the novelty of the experience softened the blow to my purse. Would I return to Wienerschnitzel? Perhaps, though not with the fervor of a knight charging into battle. It was a salty, costly diversion, an artifact of modernity that reminds me how far we have come from the simpler joys of sausages shaped without suggestion or scandal.
