pulled pork, baked beans, cheesy corn #yum #ReviewsByRL
Raena L.

We came for lunch 10.29.23 and caught it just before what might have been the after-church crowd, so wasn't busy when we got there, but then filled up. My two friends and I each had the lunch special of pulled pork sandwich(comes with slaw on it) and choice of 2 sides -- chose the baked beans and the cheesy corn, both that also have bits of meat ends in them. I also tried 3 of the 6 sauces on the table - -and appreciate the way they were labeled and described. Everything was very tasty and I was going to pack some up but instead I ate everything. #yum #ReviewsByRL

Burnt Ends Plate - all fat

Disappointed that I couldn't eat half the burnt ends as it was so fatty. Don't recommend it. I should've ordered the pulled pork.

This is for North location. With a heavy heart I write this. I hate writing bad reviews. We went in to try a few items on the menu . Getting ready to use for wedding reception. I actually told the hostess that (and owner). I ordered brisket dinner and side of burnt ends. Added slaw , baked beans, green beans and one piece of catfish. Visited with both owner and young girl while they were preparing food and said I wanted to try little bit of everything. Got home and order was screwed up. Had two orders of burnt ends. No biggie things happen. HERES is the PROBLEM! Burnt ends were so fatty that half of it was fat. See pictures. I've had burnt ends at several other joints. They never looked like that. Half fat. Removed all fat took some pictures and decided I couldn't stand it. I called and spoke with owner . She said that's what I ordered and that is what burnt ends were. I asked if I could come back and pick up brisket tomorrow..... she was irritated, busy and basically said she would call her husband and have 1/3 pound at front . I appreciated that but I'm the one that suggested it. I don't usually post bad reviews. I can't imagine trying to have a restaurant. But this experience was not what I'm used to when a business gets something wrong . I paid in full for all the food , paid an additional 3 percent cause I wanted to use credit card and finally another couple of bucks to girl who took my order. Fail fail, fail . The beans were ok. The slaw ok but not special and the burnt ends were so gross we didn't eat any of them. I didn't go get the beef cause I really felt like I deserved a call back when owner wasn't busy. One positive was the $ 3.00 piece of catfish she cooked for me. It was very good. I've had their brisket before from other location. I would stick to that but this joint if off my list because of conversation with manager. They messed up. She should have made it right. Not worth my time to go pick up a little beef. You lost a customer and a catering job. 1-10.

This was my 10th or 12th stop at a Whole Hog Cafe. As always, great BBQ and sauce. Cole slaw very good. Fried cat fish was also very good.

Sorry, but rib meat is supposed to fall off the bone. Unless someone can tell me why it shouldn't.

This is lovely BBQ. This is one of the places we'll take family when they are visiting Springfield. The service and food is good.

Ok if you want something quick, but the pork was dry, brisket wasn't super tender. There are better options.

Has anyone tried the brownie? Thoughts?

Yes. It might be the best thing on the menu sadly. Definitely better than the meat.

Do you serve hamburgers per the way customer likes made? I like mine medium rare....made like that?

No, I'm sorry we do not serve hamburgers. We only have a smoker at the restaurants.

My daughter and I were in the area visiting and read several positive reviews so we decided to give…read moreit a try. When we first pulled up the place looked like it might have been closed, but it wasn't. We were just there at an unpopular time of day. It was around 2:45pm so after lunch and too early for dinner, but we were hungry. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by a very kind and informative gentleman. We told him we had never been there before and he informed us that because it's a bbq place, they sell out very early. It was also St Patrick's Day and he told us even those specials were all sold out. He proceeded to tell us what they had left and made recommendations for us based on what was available. We ended up ordering the smoked turkey, burnt ends, potato salad and the bbq beans. The sauces we tried were a mustard based bbq sauce and their traditional house bbq sauce. We took a seat at a table while we waited for our food. It's a seat yourself dining room. Our only complaint about the dining room was the lighting and temperature. It was too dark inside and the temperature was too cold, but it was also very cold outside. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and everything was worth the wait! The turkey was so moist and tender and the burnt ends were charred just right. The potato salad and beans were both large enough to share. The potato salad had an unusual flavor because it was made with pickles which we love so it was different but incredibly delicious at the same time. I was so glad we ordered it. The beans were just okay for me, but my daughter really liked them. Personally, I don't get too excited about beans when there's better options to try. I'd rather put those carbs and calories to better use. LOL The sauces were both good but the mustard one had a very strong mustard flavor so if mustard isn't your thing you're not going to like it. The house sauce is just the right mix or sweet and smoky. As I'm writing this review, I'm craving the potato salad so much and the turkey too. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm definitely stopping there again. Nice staff, great food, and good portions what more to ask for.

Fuel was $3.11 per gallon here, and just four miles down the road it jumps to $3.49 per gallon. That alone makes this place worth pulling into. At this interchange, Buc-ee's paid for roundabouts on both sides, which is highly efficient. It's a brilliant idea and enables smooth traffic flow everywhere. This Buc-ee's has been here for about three years according to Brisket Bill, and it already feels like a staple stop. I stood there watching them chop fresh brisket and almost went with the Big Buckin' Brisket Sandwich XXL... but it was just two buckin' much for me. This is a nine dollar sandwich and worth every penny! It is outstanding! I did hear employees mumbling something about brisket on something. Maybe they were just bored and wanted to chop brisket. Maybe that's what they were saying. Since they already have a brisket Bill here in Springfield, Missouri, maybe I can be Brisket Bill in Huber Heights, Ohio! what's a 90 minute commute anyways? Soo many items. We picked up some beef jerky, fudge, candies cashews, some key chains, a brisket and cheese burrito, Taffy, gum, some other things and of course, gas. The washroom is pretty cool.
