Collom has remodeled three bathrooms for me, installed hardwood flooring on the entire main floor, built the structure and done the finishing work for our gas fireplace, installed cabinetry in the laundry room, and a number of outdoor projects. The master bathroom was a complete remodel which involved moving walls, re-routing plumbing, extensive and intricate tile work, new vanities and shelves, drywall, etc. Michael and his employees were meticulous in the structural and finishing details. Braulio made several crucial changes in my original plan concerning placement of the tub and the floor pattern which dramatically improved the design. Michael does seamless drywall texture work which is so important and so rare to find! The fireplace project involved framing around the fireplace (ceiling to floor), adding a mantle, marble tiles around the fireplace and construction and tiling of the hearth. Collom also did outstanding work on several outdoor projects at my home: construction of a trex porch and trex stairway on piers, a stone porch with pavers, installation of artificial turf, and construction of a built in BBQ with a gorgeous Buddy Rhodes cement counter top.

I also knew that he had the attention to detail that I was looking for in a professional. I would definitely use San Diego Bath & Tile again. We were so happy with Josh's work on the backsplash that we had him back to do our bathroom remodels. Both guest and master. In both bathrooms we decided to keep our old cabinets to stay in budget but Josh and his team replaced our sinks, faucets, countertops, toilets, and floor tile. In the master we did a full overhaul (new tub, shower, the whole nine yards). It took my wife and I a bit to decide on materials so Josh was kind enough to take the time to meet us at Stone Systems of Miramar Rd to pick out some materials. After a lot of wishy-washiness on my part, I finally saw a porcelain floor tile that caught my eye and from there the other materials quickly fell into place. Josh had a great idea to use extra large 20" x 40" for the master since it was a bigger space and 12" x 20" for the guest. We found a countertop that had some of the same tones and was quartz which we knew we liked from having it in our kitchen (but different color). Once we had the floor and the countertops picked out we revisited some large 24"x24" concrete looking porcelain tiles that we had seen and liked before. Luck had it that they matched the floor tile perfectly so we decided we would use that as our master wall/shower tiles. At that point Josh and team had what they needed to get rolling and so it began... Josh was very considerate and made sure that they were only working on one bathroom at a time to ensure we still had one usable. They did a great job during demo not to damage anything that was staying (cabinets,etc) and were very meticulous in laying the tile to make sure there were no high spots or lips to stub your toes on. The tile was set and grouted to perfection. Perfectly perpendicular. At the same time as the remodels we were having new floors put in the rest of the house. Josh and team coordinated and worked around the other workers with no delays or conflicts like a smooth running machine. During the master remodel Josh presented great ideas and suggestions on things we could do to get the most out of our new bathroom. For instance a niche in the wall for shampoo and soap in the shower (which we love). Another really cool idea that Josh had that gives the master just that extra special something is to have an inset backlit mirror with this awesome wave tile around the edge that Josh found (see pics). I dont know what else to say besides it was an awesome experience working with Josh and Team at San Diego Bath & Tile and we could not be more ecstatic with our new bathrooms. I got architectural plans, and was very happy with the design and the submittal process with the city. Once the remodel started, it was well orchestrated. From the Foundation , Framing, electric, and Plumbing everything was done professionally we passed all the inspections on time. And was very satisfied with that process as well. After we completed all the rough. The designer sit down with me to choose all the finish materials, and we had a very well organized list with all the materials before we started finishing the ADU. During the project, the crew did their best to keep a clean working environment. And under the circumstances they did an exceptional job. The workers were always respectful and appreciative. It was not an easy with remodeling and we knew before we started the ADU since we had a kitchen and bathroom remodel before. But working with Edison as a contractor made the process that much better. Edison outsources all their jobs and you have no idea who or when your "project will be finished. Please if you see them run. They've scammed so many people it's wild to bare witness. Also the owner doesn't even have a valid contractors license it's expired. I contracted with Marrokal for an outdoor living area remodel. I am a business owner and have done…read moremany commercial buildouts with contractors. I have also done a number of home remodels as a 30 year homeowner. I am reasonable in my expectations on what to expect from construction and understand the challenges with construction. I know that not everything goes perfect and certain issues will happen on any construction project. However, the issues on this project were extensive and beyond reason. The subs they use are of very poor quality with poor oversight by Marrokal to ensure quality. Poor workmanship, poor quality control to address the workmanship, lack of integrity with contracted issues and all led to a poor overall experience and caused me to expend tremendous time and energy in order to achieve a good finished product and avoid being overcharged. Nearly every trade had significant issues with workmanship. The Concrete had a hump throughout the slab that required a week of grinding to allow tile installation and did not allow sufficient weep screed height. The Electrician had to cut out structural joists to install speakers because they cut two of the holes in the wrong place. The stucco had over 60 cracks throughout requiring elastomeric paint due to failure to use a crack isolation membrane which I learned should have been used for the matching smooth stucco finish. The framer did a poor job framing for the fireplace requiring modification. The fireplace installation was poorly done with insufficient vent height leading to 8 months of delay at project end to remedy the issue. Poor finish carpentry work was done by the project manager and should have been done by a finish carpenter. While this was primarily an exterior project, three windows were installed. The interior was left unfinished for a number of months to do simple molding and drywall work which was only 1-2 days of work and could have been done much sooner requiring us to have our kitchen and master bedroom a mess throughout the project. In addition to the workmanship and quality control issues there were major issues with the finance/contract issues on this project. My budget was not even close to adhered to in the planning phase with no transparency until an excessive price was given to me with no supporting detail or breakdown of how it was arrived at. After a lot of back and forth and once the contract was agreed to, there were multiple issues with attempts to charge me more despite a contracted price that covered those items. This included attempts to charge me more for electrical for heaters that was covered under the contract, attempts to charge more for deck pricing after we already signed a change order contract for deck changes, attempt to do chain link fence rather than stucco around back of deck despite renderings and contract/plans that showed a stucco wrapped deck. Ultimately, Marrokal agreed to resolve each of my requests as I was in the right but it took a lot of time, energy and debate with management to get to the result. We are extremely happy with the end result and they designed a nice layout but there was a lot of pain to get to completion.
