Allen Fowler of Taurus Construction is not qualified to be a construction contractor and should not…read morebe in this business. I would give a negative star review if i could. The cabinets and countertops in the kitchen were not installed properly and the new refrigerator wouldn't fit in the space. The tile was scratched and damaged. Allen didn't pull permits for the electrical wiring and outlets have failed. The plumbing lasted a week before it completely fell apart. Don't even consider letting them paint a room unless you like the look pieces of paint brush and streaks on your walls. By the way, Allen cannot legally ask for a deposit that is over $1,000. Allen refused to acknowledge that the work was substandard, refused to repair the defects, accused me of micromanaging the project, insisted that the work was perfect, and threatened to put a mechanics lien on the property if he didn't get paid in full. At one point, he actually told me that "he doesn't answer to me". I could go on, but here's the deal: we contacted the California state licensing board and filed a complaint. It took a while for the licensing board to process the complaint, but we got our money back and are able to hire a qualified contractor to redo all of the work. The investigator assured me that the mechanics lien was baseless. Laura is first and foremost an artist, specializing in artistic finishes for walls and furniture, but she also does pretty much any type of traditional painting projects. For me, Laura created some incredible false wood beams with a faux wood finish; stained my wood gates, painted a beautiful sunset/sky mural in the kids' playroom and transformed an old glossy red bench into a stylish chic entryway centerpiece with turquoise chalk paint. Even though she doesn't normally do refinishing work, I convinced her to refinish my ugly old oak spiral staircase, and as always, the results were amazing. The best thing about Laura is she is very honest. She charges a modest hourly rate instead of giving you an overpriced bid like most painting contractors who then sub the job out to a guy with minimal skills. One thing I liked about Pat right off the bat was his attitude. He's so easy going yet hard working, and while his prices are good and we're on par with some of the other guys, his attitude won the job. But it takes more than attitude. I needed someone that did good work. I couldn't find out much about Pat online, but took the advice from my realtor who had worked with him before. If you're you're like me and you're a little OCD, then you're picky about the small stuff. And Pat is so good about it . We had so many odd requests for Pat (honest to God, we drew up plans on a piece of printer paper. No measuring, no nothing) No matter what we threw at him, he would always say "Well make it work!" And he did. Arch ways, old doors, crazy tile color, difficult bath fixtures. After everything was said and done, Pat walled in a sunroom in to a closet, completely remodeled our master bath with new window, created an indoor laundry closet, a new hallway, and closet for another bed room.
