    Jagged edge and cracked tile

If I could give negative stars, I would. Allen Fowler of Taurus Construction has no right to be in business. He was referred to me by a friend, and so I went into our venture with some blind trust, unfortunately. Originally, last October, he was supposed to remodel my 3 bathrooms and kitchen, but after attempting 2 bathrooms, I let him go. He does not itemize his work, rather gives broad, general lump sums of money and work. He did not do any of the work himself, but had subcontractors do it all. They completely demo'd 2 of my master bathrooms not putting up any kind of barriers or even replacing the bathroom door at the end of the day. The result was that there was dust and debris all over everything in both master bedrooms - at least a half an inch of concrete dust over EVERYTHING. The work was so poor that most of the work had to be re-done - tiles were scratched and chipped, the floor grout was discolored, the shower doors were installed incorrectly, the bathtub itself was set incorrectly and moves, the towel bar fell off the first week, in one bathroom the light was placed off center and was never even installed in the second bathroom. The toilet was literally rocking. He tried to convince me that it was fine that the light was off center and sent me pictures of his off center light in his bathroom. He also tried to convince me that the laminate flooring I put in was too thin causing the toilet not to fit and I would have to rip it out and have his tile guy put in tile. (I had a friend who is not even in construction who was able to correctly fix the rocking toilet and it has been fine ever since WITH the laminate flooring). They installed chrome fixtures on the shower part and brushed nickel on the bathtub part of the same tub/shower combination in both bathrooms. The hot and cold water in one bathroom shower are opposite, and because they did not re-install the insulation around the pipes, I can hear water running so loudly through the pipes any time anyone takes a shower. It is so loud it even wakes me up if I'm sleeping. He did not consult with me on most things he installed like the sinks, toilets, and vanities. He installed different fixtures than the ones I picked out and they look like cheap hotel ones. I had to pick out the quartz counter top through text messages on the phone as he was shopping there THAT day only. He used kitchen cabinets for the vanities which are three inches taller than regular bathroom vanities. He even did this in my daughter's bathroom so reaching the sink is challenging for her. When I addressed my concerns with him he told me I was micro-managing the project and frustrating everyone. I did a punch card/walk-through with one of his subcontractors because he was too sick to do it. I gave him 6 weeks to correct his errors which he never did. He admitted to me via email that he did not oversee his subcontractors, but at the same time stated everything was great. Finally in December, I refused to pay him any more than I already paid him because I basically had to completely redo the work his subcontractors had done. I've had 4 other contractors look at my bathrooms and gave me estimates from $18,316 to 30,649 to correct all the errors. He maintains that the work is fine even though he never was here to see it himself. I know another person who started work the same time I did and is going through very similar things having other contractors tell her all the things that are wrong with the work. It has been a year for her and the work is still not done. Whatever you do, do not, do not hire Allen Fowler/Taurus construction for any work. I deeply regret it and believe you will too.

**Excellent work from start to finish**…read more I recently had Chris handle a structural demolition and sliding door installation at my home, and I couldn't be more satisfied. From day one, they demonstrated true professionalism--the demolition work was precise and clean, and the new sliding door was installed flawlessly with perfect alignment and operation. What really impressed me was how they managed the entire project. They seamlessly coordinated with our concrete subcontractor to ensure everything was timed perfectly, and they handled all the city inspector communications and approvals without any delays or headaches on my end. The work was completed on schedule, the crew was respectful of our space, and the final result looks fantastic. If you're looking for a contractor who takes ownership of every aspect of a job--quality, timeline, and logistics--I highly recommend Chris.

With my background in real estate and property management, I've worked with many contractors over the years -- and it is truly hard to find a good, honest, and reliable contractor. Chris is exactly that. We received multiple bids, and his pricing was competitive -- but what really set him apart was how much he genuinely cares about doing quality work. He is diligent, hardworking, and communicates clearly throughout the process. His subcontractors are excellent, and something that really stands out is how clean he keeps the job site -- which is extremely rare in this industry and very much appreciated. His wife handles the billing and administrative side, and they run a very smooth operation together. She is thorough, organized, and makes invoices, change orders, and project costs easy to understand and track. That level of transparency and structure makes a huge difference on a large project. Overall, Chris and his team have been fantastic to work with. Honest, dependable, and detail-oriented -- everything you want in a contractor. I will absolutely be recommending Mejia Builder to everyone I know.

Review Update (2026)…read more I am updating my original 5-star review from a few years ago. At the time, we were very happy with our kitchen remodel and the overall experience working with Creative Design & Build. The project turned out beautifully, which is why I originally left such a positive review. Over the years, however, I noticed that one section of the flooring felt slightly soft when walking on it. At first, it did not seem serious, so we continued to live with it. Recently, the problem became worse and a section of the floor began to noticeably sink when stepped on and eventually a few edges of the flooring broke. At that point, I became concerned that it could become a safety issue. Because we still had plenty of spare flooring boards left over from the project, I attempted to replace the affected board myself. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the new board to fit correctly due to the locking system, and I could not restore the original board either. I then contacted Creative Design & Build for assistance. One reason I reached out was because our original project manager, Oded, had told us that if we ever had any issues, we should contact the company. I left a voicemail and later received a return call from a staff member. After I explained the situation, she said she would check with management and get back to me. A few days later, I received a text message stating that the warranty had expired and that no repairs would be covered. This was disappointing because I had never been informed that there was a four-year warranty period, nor was I able to find any reference to such a limitation in our contract. When I asked for details regarding the warranty and whether they could recommend someone to repair the issue, I did not receive any further response. There were two other issues relating to electrical and plumbing, however we decided to live with that until we had a major problem we needed fixing. I still appreciate the work that was done on our remodel years ago, and our kitchen remains a space we enjoy. However, I have been disappointed by the lack of follow-up and support when a problem arose. My advice to future customers is to make sure all warranty terms, coverage details, and expiration dates are clearly documented and understood before signing a contract.
