HORRIBLE experience. I learned that $850 only buys you a 365 day warranty. Unbelievable. I took my shoes to a local cobbler and was informed that the internal layers of the sole had become separated, causing a terrible squeaking sound in my shoes. Jesse White told me it would cost $325.00 to fix, after I had just spent $850 to purchase them directly from their Spokane store where I went in to be fitted and order the shoes. For real, USA made $850 dollar shoes with nly a 365 day warranty. You are a fool if you waste your money at this place. read more

I'm disappointed. I'm a utility fleet mechanic, so I'm on my feet all day and working in sometimes harsh environments, and I was looking to invest in a pair of quality boots. White's Boots has an amazing history and a dedicated following, so it felt like a no-brainer when the Sawyer boots went on sale. The boots were exactly what I wanted--tough as nails, good for any weather and terrain, with nice thick leather and a rugged sole. However, after 8 months, the stitching on the front of the boot has failed and the sole is separating. I've had $90 boots last longer than these. Normally, I wear my boots down until the soles are completely slick. Overall, I loved the quality of the boots and the customer service. I still like to think White's Boots is a good brand, and maybe I just got unlucky. That being said, I will not be buying another pair ever again. read more

I have 3 pairs of these boots all smoke jumpers, 2 pairs lace to toe, 1 pair original. 1 of the lace to toe is rough out. I rotate through them as I get them rebuilt which happens about every 2.5-3 years. Or whenever the sole wears smooth. I have gone to their shop in person to deliver my rebuilds to avoid shipping fees as well as having shipped them. They are expensive and worth it. Expecting the boot manufacturer to pay for you to ship your own boot to them for a rebuild is wild. The boots are extremely comfortable, last a long while, are sturdy and hold up to being worked hard in. I wear Thorogoods when I need a sneaker at work. read more

Disappointed in the Lochsa 8inch insulated boot. First pair stitching on the left boot came apart after 6 months. Mind you these are over 400$ boots. Murdoch's store did replace them. Second pair stitching came apart on right boot After 13 months. Whites Boots does not repair these boots. Ok that is BS Customer Service. So I now purchased Hoffmans boots. was a long time Whites Boots customer. Not any more. Three things that matter Service service and service. You failed White's Boots. read more

According to Rose Anvil on YouTube, White's boot quality is amazing. But my experience has been very poor. I ordered the Perry Selects in Tobacco Stampede. The color was way off in person. Instead of the handsome tan shown on the website, it looks like an orange basketball. The exchange process felt antiquated, and they made me pay for return shipping even though the color error is on them. I order British Tan, which looks like a handsome brown on the website. The boots arrive, and they're burgundy. At this point, I didn't want to pay for return shipping again, so I just kept the boots. It's been less than a month of light use (walking), and the stitching appears to be coming undone in the same place on both boots. Very disappointed with my experience. I can't recommend the Perry Selects or White's customer service. read more

This is a review after three years, and near 5 days a week wear. It is also in part a contrast to shallow negative reviews left by over-entitled and self important folks that given the world, would NOT be happy. Firstly the boots are top quality, and near bullet proof. Purchased the Cruiser model in black waxed flesh. Very little break-in needed, and had zero hot spots once tongue was broken in. Store was super busy the day I was there, with a little patience, the staff got to nearly every one and were very helpful. At least one person walked out mumbling under their breath about the wait time, and honestly Whites does not need a customer like that anyway. After about a year, my left boot developed a squeak. I took them back in, and whites took care of the squeak by re-bottoming the boots. Yes...... this took some time, but I was happy to wait, and cost me nothing. Not advertised as such, but these have been nearly weather tight. Many hiking trips, and backpacking trips where they have been in wet weather for hours/days and very little gets through to socks. They are costly, but considering a US made boot, by a family business, and opposite of the "Walmart" throw away culture, absolutely with the price IMO. After three years a hard wear, boots are still in perfect working order. If you're a nit-pick type, there is some uneven-ness to hand made boots. Go by cheaper factory made boot, or some fashion brand. Not a hand made boot. YELP..... you really need a thumbs down for reviews, which should include mine for those bothered by calling out the over entitled and self important. :) read more

62 year old male, suffering from Planter Fasciitis. Tried everything, insoles, expensive shoes, nothing helped. Decided to try a different approach. I ride bicycles long distances, thanks to form fitting, Leather, Brooks saddle. My butt never hurts. Also tried hundreds of dollars worth of exotic bicycle seats. Nothing worked till my son bought me, what looked to be the most uncomfortable looking, hard leather Bike Saddle. After a reasonable break in. No more sore bike Butt! Stood to reason, leather could work with my feet too. So, bought a pair of Whites Boots, double leather sole. Can work an 8hr day now with much more comfort and no insoles. Exercise caution and temper expectations. The company has obviously established a reputation off their stellar build quality but will still output the occasional dud. Had a pair of MPs develop a very prominent and persistent squeak in the sole in about six months of use in an office / automotive repair environment. I was an idiot and thought it was something that might work itself out but here it is about a year and a half later and it still sounds like I'm walking on wet floors wherever I go. Kinda embarrassing. Repairs for such a thing outside warranty? $200 plus covering shipping. These were purchased direct from White's. The process for initiating repairs was otherwise quick an courteous aside from the pricing. I'm a huge proponent of paying the premium for an exceptionally high quality product with the assumption that said product will last for much longer than average and be conducive to repair. I don't think what I purchased meets either criteria and I guess I'm just disappointed. read more

One pair Close Out and another pair regular order. Avoid the pay first / order confirmed / sold out.. Closeout Drill. Two out of Three "cancelled" after payment and confirm is strike three for this repeat customer. My money will eventually be refunded, but life's too short to chase refunds. Pretty bummed to write this review. I'm pretty disappointed with White's. I am field ecologist in the Midwest. Me and my co-workers are pretty hard on boots. We're in and out of water, mud, fire, sharp stumps, herbicide exposure, etc. Whites has been on our radar for years, being the so called standard of wildland fire boots. Due to the price, nobody was willing to try White's worrying that it might be overkill. After using Danner, Carolina, and Keen and putting them through their paces, I expected a spectacular boot if I was to pay more then double what I paid for these other boots. I originally ordered the "Crew Boot" but it came in a size too large for me, which happens, but White's does not pay for return shipping to exchange for the right size. Another $70 later, I upgraded to the "Fire Hybrid" and sized down. I was disappointed to find that they were also to large in the toe box. I didn't want to pay another $70 to ship these new ones back, and my ankle locked in well enough to wear comfortably if I put a sponge in the empty space. So I made due. The quality of the boots are undeniable, Super high quality leather, tough stitching, and apparent care in manufacture. However, I was extremely surprised by their actual performance in fire. During prescribed fires, I'm often close to or standing on open flame, never having issue, but these boots really heat up and keep it in a way that I have not experienced with my previous non fire rated boots. Even after dowsing the boots in water, I was still very uncomfortable for several minutes as the heat dissipated. This has happened multiple times. In the future, I will be saving my money and going with Carolina, who in my experience, have the best value I have found in work boots. White's makes a beautiful Product, but bad policies to insure your boots are right for you, and its performance in its stated purpose will keep me from repurchasing or rebuilding. read more

Placed order to have the boot resoled in December was told 4 weeks. Call back 6 weeks later and boots were ready for a week earlier and never was notified my boots were just there at White's. Any type of electronic confirmation would be fine. Had to wait for a manager to setup PayPal payments. Once the boots return I will sure be satisfied with the product and everyone there is really nice! I'll change the rating though as of right now could've been better. I wanted to give you guys a great review. I owned a pair of packers about 30 years ago and wore them nearly 20 years. I started to wear other boots. I have (had) plantar fasciitis for many years. I tried everything from insoles to meds. This summer I was in Charm OH and went in Charm Harness and Leather Shop. I noticed they had White's Boots. I purchased a pair of Packers. In 3 days my foot pain was gone!!!! If I only wear them 2 hours a day my feet do not hurt. I have since went back and purchased a pair of smokejumpers for hunting and farm work and they are as "pain free" as my packers. My spouse is in love with a pair of two-tone "Packers," especially for riding and hopefully, soon, work around "a barn." We just ordered my brother-in-law a pair of insulated Northwests for work in his company's cooler. We order them locally from Goettelmanns Gary Ryans Sport Shop in Santa Clara, CA - where we can fit them, but via catalogue is easy enough as well. read more

I had been waiting years to make it here. Finally my work schedule put me within 2 hours of it. I actually called ahead and let them know that I was wanting to be fitted in the next couple of hours. The nice gal said that wouldn't be a problem. I was warmly greeted by a young lady who offered to help me. I explained what I wanted and she went to work measuring my feet but, she hit a snag. Turns out my feet are not the same size and she hadn't dealt with that yet. She called over one of her co workers and Bob came over to assist. They both worked very well together. While they didn't have anything in my size for comparison, they were sure we would have a good fit. I did a bit more shopping and picked up a Filson travel bag. I'm not sure the folks building and repairing boots enjoyed being watched through the big observation windows but, I enjoyed seeing them hand craft boots. I was almost ready to swipe my card to pay when Bob says "wait! I wanna try something else". He brought out a different model that he had in my sizes. He had spent several minuets searching and searching. Of course,the sizes we tried worked and now I cant wait for my new boots to show up. This will make my second pair of Whites, I wont wear anything else. Ya get what ya pay for and the service here was amazing. I would highly recommend stopping in here and checking them out. Recently ordered a pair of line scouts for my fire season needed them asap but they told me they didn't have them in stock, to my surprise I received a phone call from them letting me know they had a different kind in stock that they could send out, which I found very respectable of them to reach and explain. Unfortunately the boots didn't come when still supposed to as I paid 40 dollars extra for 2 day air shipping and they never even shipped them out until 3 days later, when asking if I could get my money back for the 2 day air shipping they said they could "upgrade me" to 1 day air even tho the boots would still not be getting here until the weekend passed, very disappointed in my buying experience and wouldn't want to go through this kind of process again unfortunately. read more

I have owned quite a few, 8 pairs including 4 smoke jumpers, 1 snow packs, 1 cowboy dress, and 2 cowboy packers. I never had a problem when it was owned by the Otto White family. It was bought from them in 2014. It has been down hill from there. I was actually told from white's they don't stand behind there product because I bought it from a dealer. I had to go to them. Just bought my first pair of White's Boots yesterday. I've read about them for so long but was deterred by the price. Finally just went in and did it. Lillian was extremely helpful and gregarious. She measured me and brought out many styles and sizes to try on. I finally settled on some black MP's in a 8.5EE, which I had never been measured that way before. Normally I'm a 9D. I almost bought 2 pair, but couldn't justify that kind of purchase without any type of discount. She tried to find me a discount, but to no avail. Normally it's a 4-6 week build time, but they had plenty in stock for me to choose from. The build quality is fantastic and I haven't taken them off since buying them! So, I am a wildland firefighter for the FS. I have been on a hotshot crew for the past 4 years. I have used the Nicks Hotshot roughout boot for the past 3 and have at least 1000 miles on them. Other than getting them re-soled once, they have been great: waterproof, comfy, and still look new. I decided its time to have a back up pair of boots. I went with Whites Smokejumpers for no reason other than just to try them. The Smokejumpers and Hotshots are supposed to be the same boot. I got the smooth Smokejumpers because for some reason getting a roughout is a custom order. I like the roughout because it is much stronger, waterproof, and lasts longer than smooth. The boots made it 3 weeks before the stitching started tearing, the soles started seperating, and leather started splitting. The guy at Whites told me that since theres 4 layers of stitching, it was just wear and tear for 2 of the layers were basically gone after 1 week on a fire...I did not agree. When I showed him all the cuts in the leather, he told me they were pulaski hits. I found that an interesting explanation seein as how Im a sawyer and didnt touch a tool once. He once again told me I was wrong. He became very unfriendly after that. I just wanted my money back since it was like 20 days after I bought them. They resoled and restitched them and wouldnt just give me my money back. They still look horrible, I dont even want them DO NOT BUY WHITES, NICKS IS A WAY BETTER BOOT. I would have gladly paid the extra $175 for a custom-made boot, and I told them that, but they kept sending off-the-shelf sizes that fit terribly. I finally got it out of them that many models are not custom made, and those carefully taken measurements you send in are just a guide to what they'll pull of the shelf. And if they don't have what fits you they'll send whatever is closest. It's bad business to sell somebody something that you know is not right for them. read more

I'm still breaking in my Smoke Jumper's so I don't want to get too excited but I really like them. One of their long time employee's was recommended to do the fitting and he hit the mark perfectly. I have high arches and plantar fasciitis and have spent years daydreaming about boots that fit perfectly and these do. I really like the fit, look and the feel of them, they are a classic western work boot. I ordered them exactly the way I wanted, the right color, insulation and a leather lining and arches build to my specs. I wore them out of the store and it felt like cinder blocks on my feet. When they say a hundred hours of break-in they mean it. I was worried about making an expensive mistake and pleased I did not make one. I have worn them 12 hours a day for nearly a month and like them more every day. My feet like them and feel better than they have in ages. I have owned Danner's, Red Wings and Matterhorn boots, none of them cheap and spent a ton on orthotics and expensive foot beds of all sorts. They help to a point, but none of them are as nice as these boots. I'm hoping the new owner's treat the company with respect and keep the quality high. read more

I've had a pair of the Smoke Jumpers for about a year and then decided to order the Vintage boot. As it turned out the Vintage did not fit as the Smoke Jumper so White's adjusted the size and they are now fantastic! The quality of White's boots are incredible and the customer service was great also. I would definitely recommend them and will be buying their product again. Don't know what to say to those that are disgruntled but maybe its in the communication. I say that because I have one foot slightly wider that the other and they adjusted for that with no problem. read more

jus got a pair of the whites smokejumper 400V LTT 10 inchers and these are awesome! not as good as Wesco 14 inchers for lineman duties, but I'm sure I could have gotten 14 inch whites. these whites are fabulous right outta the box and don't really need any break in period like my wescos which were stiffer than a Wilson a2k pro level mitt! back to whites: love these and will alternate with my wescos or waterproof Chippewa 9 inch boots. these run about $480 plus tax; about the same as wescos. read more

I just got a pair of used White's semi-dress boots (the mid-tops seen in one of the photos) and the quality is unbelievable. Stacked leather slanted heel, supple tongue leather, vibram soles, all grommet 6-hole lace-up and full arch support. It arrived broken-in, and are so supple they feel like slippers. It's way more comfortable than my red wing gentlemen travelers, which I'm also a big fan of. White's has a big following among firemen and loggers, which should give you an indication of their quality. White's will also fully rebuild shoes for a fraction of the cost of new - re-soling, whatever they need. read more

Heel fell off and Whites wouldn't make it right! I bought a pair of Whites snow boots. Had them several years but only had actually worn them a handful of times. The heel came unglued and fell off. They offered to fix them for $72 bucks. I paid $250 for a pair of snow boots with the Whites name on them assuming that they would be whites quality. I have worn Whites boots only for the last 2 decades and I can say that I have bought my last pair. read more

I have owned over the years four pair of custom made working cowboy boots - two riding cowboy boots by Griffith Blucher, one beautiful cowboy packer pair by Ralph Turner, and a pair of White's. The Whites pair of lace up cowboy packers took three times as long as they told me they'd take to be finished. When they finally arrived, I went to put on the right boot and Lo! A NAIL was projecting through the sole, into my foot. It was sheer luck I didn't cram my foot down any harder, or it would have gone through my foot. I called them up. Sent boots back. Some six (!) weeks or more later, they finally come back. This time, without a nail protruding through the sole. I don't care how busy a company is, but this is unacceptable for this level of 'custom' boot. Now when I say, "this level", I hardly put White's on the same level as the Blucher company of yore, or even Ralph Turner or Paul Bond, and definitely not on the same level as DW Froemmer. They are mid tier boot makers in my opinion. I was greatly disappointed in their customer service and the fact that they let a boot go out with such a gross, glaring defect as mine had. To start... I rarely write reviews... maybe 3 in my life. To continue... I am very, very disappointed in my Whites. I am a wildland firefighter and bought a pair of the Smokejumpers a few years back. They were the BEST pair of boots I've ever worn. They stomped through 3 seasons as a sawyer on a hotshot crew with no issues - working in the black, stepping in ash pits, swamping and kicking branches, endless amounts of talus and rock hopping - indestructible. They were unfortunately stolen and this season I went to replace them with the same exact boot. I'm not sure what has changed but I'm 2 months in on a HELITACK crew and have barely hit the fireline at all. The leather has major nicks and is generslly very soft, the stitching is fraying on the sole, water seeps right through even from morning dew in the grass where the ltt junction meets the tongue, it feels like they may not even last the season. I went from ranting and raving about my boots to discouraging ANYONE from buying these boots. Please don't make the same mistake. I highly regret the 400 (even at a discount) I paid for these and would return them if I could. Spend your money elsewhere. Cheers. read more

Outrageous, overpriced, overrated! I bought a pair of Packers thinking that I'd really bought into a special boot. A friend warned me that "Breaking in a pair of these is like breaking in a block of wood." I should have listened. These wooden stovepipes pulled my socks up around my toes until they cramped. The dealer had no real input except stretching them a little, but that didn't help. So I called White's. Their alleged customer service representative said, "We've never heard of that." They offered nothing else. The dealer bent over backwards trying to help--they refitted the boots twice to make sure I had the correct size, they stretched, and treated, and tried everything they could think of to make these things comfortable. And I kept trying to wear them. But after four months of blisters, raw spots, and callouses that make my feet hurt in all my other shoes now, I gave up. White's again had nothing to offer. As for other American boots, I've worn Tony Lamas, Luccheses, and a number of other expensive boots because I have narrow feet. I've NEVER had this kind of problem before. I'm sitting here with a $410 white elephant that is absolutely useless. Given a choice between White's alleged American "craftsmanship" and tortured feet, I'll go with the Chinese. These are expensive junk. And White's won't help. Want to be real careful here. read more

I was quoted 6-8 weeks return time on my Whites rebuilds. I went to pick them up today after over 3 months! Before I paid, I pulled them out of the box and they hadn't built the heel like I had specified. It was written on their build sheet, but they failed to do it. They sent them back into the shop to fix on the spot. A half hour later, they brought them out, and under further inspection, they hadn't put all the insulation back into my boots. They did not fix this problem. They offered a can of boot grease for "all the screw ups". All I can say is I will never go back to them in my life!! It's shameful considering I'm a small business owner and love to buy locally. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! read more

There are others but they are just not White's. I used to cut timber in my college days and I still use those original Smoke Jumpers. I ad them custom made. I have sent them back twice to be refurbished and they are still with me. My death instructions have a paragraph that I want to be buried in my White's. There are just some things in life that have a tradition and that's a pair of Smoke Jumpers. I only wear shrink to fit...none of these designer jeans, flip flops or fanny packs! A pair of Smoke Jumpers are a status symbol and I live in L.A. Buy a pair and quit screwing around! They will outlast you... And if you are ever in the Spokane, Washington area stop in their store. These boots are amazing. The sales manager is the exact opposite. My husband is a walking billboard for these boots. We live in Portland and were SO excited to take a trip to Spokane to actually see all the boots and get a new pair. My husband has had two pairs for about 15 years and he has worn them to death. He is so attached to these boots, he brought them to do a rebuild. Before we went on our trip to Spokane, my husband's parents surprised him with new White's Boots for his birthday from the mail. They didn't fit completely right so he brought those with to exchange and fully ready to pay the difference for the boot he was planning on getting in the first place. He had walked around in the new boots outside for a total of 15-20 minutes to make sure these weren't the right fit. It took the walking around to be sure. We live on a sailboat so walking in the boat would not have given the same feel. Anyways, we walk in with one pair of White's boots on, one pair in his hands for a rebuild and another pair to exchange. The Sales Manager talked to us like we were children, lecturing us that we shouldn't wear them outside before exchanging. Duh. We get that. There were barely any scratches. Easily buffed out. Especially in a WHITE'S BOOTS WAREHOUSE. This is what they do there. They made us feel two inches tall and created a huge drama over whether or not her "guy" can buff them out or not while continuing to lecture. Turns out her guy was able to, SHOCK, and they made the exchange. It was sad to me because we were genuinely hoping for a positive experience as he is such a firm believer in these boots. We expected being treated with quality customer service. We were not. The Sales Manager at this branch had NO positive comment to make to either of us and our cousin who came with. Due to being such believers in the boots, my husband made the exchange and turned in one pair of his boots to do a rebuild. I was going to get a pair as well but there was no way after that treatment. So congrats SALES manager, whose job is focused on SALES. You had customers in your store that were ready to drop over $1000. You cut that sales in half. Nice work. read more

I bought a pair of White's Logger/Smoke Jumper boots at the store in Spokane in 1990. They're not my oldest boots, those would be a couple pairs of Tony Lama's I bought in the mid-1980s, but they're survivors. They are my primary motorcycle boots, and as such have been scorched, beaten and well worn. They've been re-heeled several times and re-soled once. I've put probably 200,000 miles on them in all kinds of weather on all kinds of roads and trails. They are so comfortable, I wish I could wear them every day. Top quality! read more

I've broken in boots before so I know it can be rough, but I expected a little more from a $500 custom fit smoke jumper boots. First of all I understand that different companies have different sizing methods so I wasn't too concerned that I got a size 12 when I wrote down size 13 as my regular size. Honestly the whole boot feels great considering I'm trying to break them in, except for the toe box. I purposefully spread my toes out a little when I drew the outline and didn't pull the tape measure too tight either because I cannot stand having my toes mashed together but my pinky toe has been pushed under the next toe since I put these things on. I've given it a couple weeks and I have concluded that they did not custom make these but instead grabbed the closest thing to what matched my pattern. I will be calling to get to the bottom of this and hopefully the customer service is as good as everyone claims. read more
