Whitebark staff, I write this review through the lens of being a fellow server and part of the hospitality industry. My husband and I travel around the United States and internationally for his work, and we stay at a lot of hotels (especially Westin properties) and I was pretty shocked by the lack of service during breakfast service. To the management who is reading this, the following review is being posted in the hopes of improving the status quo and to increase the training that is so desperately needed, not to get anybody fired. Breakfast servers: 1) Keep your cell phones put away while you are working. Your eyes should be up at all times scanning your tables to see if your tops need anything. Don't wait for a table to ask if they need hot sauce or ketchup or more water, you should be constantly roaming, anticipating their needs. 2) When you go to refill coffee at one of your tables, you should offer coffee to all the tables even if they're not your tops. Watching one server pass by our table no less than 5 times without offering to refill our coffee or water blew my mind. 3) Check in with your table after the food has been served to see if everything is OK. My omelette was incredibly bland and I wanted to request Parmesan cheese and hot sauce but I could not get my servers attention to request it and I couldn't get the other server to stop at our table. Our server never once came back to our table between dropping the food and the bill. 4) When see a table has been sat, but it's not yours and you notice that the other server isn't checking in with them, touch base with that table and let them know that their server will be over soon. We sat for almost 10 minutes without having anybody check in with us, offer us, coffee, or anything. 5) To the busser/server assistant's who had one ear bud in during service, take it out dude, you're at work. We expected much more from this Westin based restaurant. Food was skimpy and unexciting, Bar tender was fantastic though

We tried Whitebark last night for dinner since it's so close to where we are staying, and the menu looked pretty decent. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly for our reservation. The restaurant wasn't too busy because it was still on the earlier side (5:45). The server came to the table with some small glasses of water about halfway full (with no ice) and asked if we wanted to put in any orders to start off with. My husband asked for a Diet Coke and I ordered the crab soup as a starter. We asked a few questions about the menu, put our dinner order in, and the waiter said the soup would be out shortly. Cut to 40 minutes later and I'm still waiting for my soup. They finally bring it out with our daughter's dinner and the soup has a skin on it from sitting out so long and it's barely warm. It tasted fine, but warm crab chowder is not too appealing. After another 10-15 minutes, my husband's poutine and my ribeye came out. The ribeye wasn't great looking but I ate most of it anyway despite it being a pretty poor cut of meat and definitely not worth $65. My husband said his dinner was fine, but he regretted not getting a hamburger instead. Mind you, we've received zero refills on our half full small glasses of water at this point and we've been there over an hour. All of our glasses were empty (including the Diet Coke) and the waiter was totally MIA. I kept looking around, hoping that someone else working there would see that we were in need of something and would offer to help. Nope. I finally had to stop someone as they were rushing by our table to see if we could get some refills. So, the hostess came by and refilled our drinks. The hostess! The waiter never came back to the table. Not to check on the food, see if we needed anything...nothing. The hostess bussed the table and we asked her if she could have the waiter bring our check. The hostess actually brought it and then took it to run our credit card. Seriously?! Where is the waiter?! We paid, and as we were getting up to leave, the elusive waiter finally came by and said he hopes we enjoyed the food (meh) and to enjoy the rest of our stay in Mammoth. We won't be coming back to Whitebark. The service was very poor. I can see why the Yelp reviews are all saying the same thing. Food = 6/10 Service: 2/10 Ambiance: 7/10 read more

Service was friendly and fine enough but the food truly was below average, even for a hotel restaurant.

There aren't a lot of reasonably upscale restaurants in MMH, but this is one of them. I've been an Ikon annual passholder for many years and Mammoth (MMH) is one of my favorite spots. I like Whitebark. It's convenient, and they have pretty good food and pretty good service. I usually order steak. read more

Don't do it. We got food poisoning ordering room service from here. The hotel's response was, "We can connect you to the restaurant. They're a separate business." Well, here's your restaurant review. Seriously, we got very sick for two days, with all the gory symptoms of food poisoning. No, running to the bathroom every half hour, feeling alternating fever and chills, and being weakened to be barely able to move is not what anyone wants out of a restaurant. Zero stars. read more

Everything from the service to the food was 5 stars. Starting with the nice and pleasant host. Our waiter was kind and answered our question. The food, two salads ( beet salad and Cesar) and we shared an entree (salmon) was excellent. Our water glasses never went below 1/2 full. The waiter and I think manager both checked in to make sure all was well and tasting good. Crème brûlée was delicious as well. Price was very fair. We will be back. read more

Unbelievable! I made reservations over a month in advance for NYE. I had reservations at 7 and received a call at 6pm on NYE that its going to be a 6 course set menu for $150. There was no mention on their website. I was fine with the price, not the last minute notice and especially not the proposed menu! They really need to get it together especially for a holiday weekend. read more

Definitely not a 5 star place My cousin called to make dinner reservations at 7:15pm on a Saturday night for a party of six people. When we arrived, we noticed there was a sign that said they would not serve sushi rolls besides at their bar area. Lame! So we had to cram at a table at the bar area in the corner. I wish they would have mentioned it over the phone to us. Once we found a dark dingy small table, we waited for our waitress. Once she came, she handed us one menu although there was 6 of us and ALL of us were eating. We asked for more so she found 3 more. Some had different prices. There was also a sushi menu. Once we finally decided what we wanted, we ordered the following: Calamari $12- Probably the best thing there. The calamari was battered and fried just right. It came with a cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, and lemon. I recommend it as a starter here. Chicken Wings- There are different options of sauce. We went with their asian flavor and it was a nice sweet, spicy, and sour taste. The actual chicken was tender and pretty good. Baby Beets Salad $9- This salad was silly small. It was barely any kale and arugula with some oranges, tiny amount of goat cheese, pistachio, and beets. Pappardelle Pasta $22- The menu said it included spinach, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, goat cheese and basil but there was barely any tomatoes or spinach. Instead of goat cheese, we asked them to use Parmesan instead. The dish was very bland and barely any cheese. Nothing worth the $22. The actual pasta noodles tasted fresh, but since a boring dish. Wester Ross Scottish Salmon $33- This dish was basically a large piece of grilled salmon that sat on top of a citrus white rice. It also came with 4 brussel sprout. The salmon had a BBQ/teriyaki flavor to it and was quite large. It was cooked just right. There wasn't anything special about the dish though. Looking at old Yelp photos, their old salmon dish doesn't look like the new one. The new one is much more boring and also pricing had gone up. Herb Roasted Half Chicken $29- This rosemary roasted half chicken came with potatoes and was covered in a creamy white sauce. It was tender and pretty good. This dish can work on presentation. Blue Crab Hand Roll $9- This eventually being complementary because we had to wait so long for it. It was alright. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. We also got two other hand rolls but can't remember what they were called. They were alright as well. I thought the pricing was pricey for quality and quantity. It lacked presentation, freshness, and flavor. Nothing was very memorable. It also annoyed me that the menus were different and some had different pricing. It was not consistent. One was even dirty with food spots on it. As for service, I'm not sure if our waitress knew what she was doing. She didn't give us enough ultinsels and napkins. She only gave enough for 4 when there was clearly 6 people. Also when a larger table opened up next to us, she didn't offer to move us, although we hadn't ordered yet. We had to move ourselves. Our requests also were not made when asked. We had to ask 3 times for ketchup and water refills. Overall, this mediocre restaurant is a solid three stars. Will not be coming back. read more

This is not a nice restaurant but don't worry: it is expensive! I don't know how you mess up scrambled eggs but they sure did. Just hard. Not that hot. The applewood smoked bacon was flavorless, the breakfast potatoes as well. The coffee was decent but I got that from the lobby. Anyways hard pass. read more

We came here for dinner a few years ago but haven't been back...though we come to Mammoth every year. This time, we went back but to the lounge rather than the restaurant. They do serve the regular dinner menu at the lounge but we stuck to the lounge menu. Cheese plate - This was pretty solid with four different types of cheese. Their "honeycomb" didn't come on a honeycomb though...just honey in a mini bowl. Their goat cheese came out frozen but if you wait for it to thaw out, it's pretty good. Chicken wings (Asian sauce) - Our waiter recommended the Asian sauce and they were pretty good! 12 large sized wings with a sweet chili sauce. Burger - We got this with the sriracha mayo rather than the horseradish mayo. The pretzel bun was soft and paired well with the meat. However, the meat was a little dry. Giant chocolate chip cookies with ice cream - This was disappointing because the cookie was so hard! And it did not have many chocolate chips in it. Boooooo. Overall, this restaurant was probably better than most places in mammoth. The price is more reasonable for the quality of the food we are getting. Happy hour is 3-6pm so I would recommend coming and getting drinks and food off their lounge menu! read more

Checked into the Westin and didn't want to hassle leaving the hotel, so went downstairs for dinner. The food was AWFUL, INEDIBLE! Brussel sprouts were swimming in oil, salmon was soft and super fishy, caesar salad was disgusting. Sorry Whitebark, but really....you gotta do better than this!! read more

I came here for happy hour (2PM-5PM) on my last trip to Mammoth. It's located in the Westin, just a quick walk from the Village gondola. We got there 15 minutes early for HH but they still seated us and gave us water while we were waiting. The HH menu didn't have a lot to choose from but everything sounded quite delicious. I ordered the soft shell crab po boy while my friends ordered the kobe skirt steak and char siu pork spring rolls. We also shared two orders of the trio of fries which came with yukon potato criss cut fries, sweet potato fries, and shoestring fries. It was more than enough for our group of six. Everything was pretty tasty. The fries were a little on the salty side but I just dusted them off and enjoyed the aioli and chimichurri sauce that came with it. Overall it was a decent meal and our server was really friendly. Although I still prefer Whiskey Creek for their happy hour because of price and selection. read more

We ordered 5 Tomahawk chops and 2 filets medium rare. They all came out well done, under seasoned and just all around bad. We were one of two parties in the entire restaurant and yet we waited much longer than one would expect. No doubt it was due to them thawing our steaks? Our server did his best to try and help the situation and we showed our appreciation in his gratuity. The other entrees were just ok. We had an excellent dinner at whitebark on our last night in Mammoth Lakes. They have several areas for dining: including a side with TVs and a side without, one side has windows with a view of the Village, the other is darker and more intimate. We enjoyed our table overlooking the Village, having just strolled through the cute area to the restaurant. We enjoyed a basic and delicious chicken with sage(?) gravy on mashed potatoes and a NY strip with a wine reduction (sauce). First of all, after many years of business travel, I am very averse to eating at hotel restaurants. That said, we had a hard time finding somewhere open at 9pm that wasn't burgers or pizzas. So, reluctantly, we sauntered up to the bar and we're happy to discover happy hour pricing on the bar menu. We ordered the Mac and cheese, the duck quesadilla, and the bison flatiron steak. All were great, but especially the duck quesadilla with "fall salsa" was amazing! Local beer on tap, and very friendly bartender with its of good advice on places to explore in the area. read more

We are guests at the hotel and have been hesitant for days to try this place because of the 3 star review. The breakfast is great. The cocktails and dinner are good as a result of the bartender who is working here now. I don't see any reason for why this place isn't the go-to for all hotel guests aside from the 3 star review. It sounds like there was some bad staff that's been worked out. We had the burger and lentil stew. It is still on my mind to never return to this restaurant. We stayed at the Westin last year and thought it would be convenient to eat there. Very bad move! The hostess was beyond rude to both of us. She wouldn't allow us to sit at a decent table - refused our request for three other open tables, 2 of which were never occupied. We were seated next to the kitchen under a spotlight. Horrible ambiance! The menu was very limited with funky dishes and prices were waaay too high. We asked for our almost $30 cheeseburgers to be cooked medium. They were seared on the outside and somewhat raw on the inside. Our waiter was pleasant and that's why I upped this review to one star. I expected a lot more from this place as it's located inside of The Westin Monache Resort. We dined here because of its convenient location just a flew floors under our room and it's one of the only places in Mammoth that stays open late. It's beautiful and very modern. The menu ranges from bar bites like sliders and wings to sushi and even offers fine dining options that are very pricey. We liked the idea of it because he could have a bar snack and I could get some sushi. Everything we ordered was pretty bland and didn't taste great. His wings lacked flavor, the truffle fries didn't taste fresh and my sushi rice was over cooked. Our cocktails also came out wrong and we ended up sending them back. The prices for everything are very expensive and don't justify the mediocre food. With so many dining options at the Village walking distance from the resort I'd skip this place. read more

The Whitebark Restaurant and Bar is situated inside the Westin Monache in the Village at Mammoth Lakes. My family and I stayed at the Westin for several days when we were evacuated by the Southern California wildfires. Being an SPG gold member, we immediately booked our room through the App and loved enjoying a few free nights with our status. We ate at the Whitebark 3 evenings in a row. We loved the attentive service. Our servers sat and talked with us and genuinely cared about us and the effects of the devastating fires. We started each night with the Napa Caymus and tuna tartare as an appetizer. The setting of the restaurant was a beautiful modern lodge with beautiful fireplace, sushi bar and comfortable lounge seats. TV's were in the bar which gave the kids some fun while watching the basketball game. Next we ordered the cesar salad, and enjoyed the Taco Tuesday specials. My son ordered the hot wings which he loved and my other son ordered the Mac and cheese which in his eyes is the best Mac and cheese on the face of the planet. The next night we ordered the flat bread and the following night we had sushi. All in all we loved the restaurant, the food and atmosphere. Thank you Westin! read more
