Fast food here is more exciting than their average competition with about 50 menu options. Stopped in to buy 2 ten packs of cheeseburgers for holiday gifts. A new employee, Stephen, did a terrific job with myself and the droves of customers. Very clean place, customers appear satiated yet comfortable, clientele more preferable than the other locations. Nostalgia for me is spelled W-H-I-T-E C-A-S-T-L-E. For my 5th birthday, mom removed all the furniture in the living room and 30 of our closets friends and family came over. On the dining room table were, what seemed like, thousands of the little white boxes. To a 5 year old, these tiny burgers are crack. In every single photo, there i stand with long hair down to my butt, a black and pink polka dot dress (mom, what were you thinking!?!?) a white castle burger, and a smile. Id like to think that I nursed that one burger all night- since it was in damn near every photo... but i know myself- im pretty sure i ate those burgers by the case. Fast forward xx years and every now and then, I crave the buttery bread that almost melts on your tongue the minute you bite into it, the burger patty that inexplicably has 5 holes in it and is eerily not like any "beef" (or at least thats what they THINK it is) you have ever tasted before, with the gelatinous cheese, tangy pickles and sweet acidic punch from all the ketcup. Its sheer heaven... And then i wake up the next day to sheer hell. I can't explain what it is about these burgers that make me love them and hate them so much! It has to be said that i love this location because it was always there for me when i needed it after a night of drinking. The staff here have a high turn over. Depending on the time that you go (for me, its late night/ early morning) the crowd varies. At 1 am, its kinda scary. I love the staff here more than the food. They always are so energetic and funny. It's either that or im just too lit. Open 24/7 making it a go to if you're ever running late or need something to eat. This review is strictly for the new Impossible Slider vegan option recently introduced here. White Castle sliders are already a pretty well known quantity that one either loves or avoids so I won't include those. (The Impossible Slider is also a different vegan option from the normal WC vegan burger.) I'm not a vegan but I need to be aware of saturated fat/calorie intake. I'm not sure that the Impossible Slider is actually a low-cal option but it is an option. It doesn't have the tough chewiness that some vegan burgers have and, strangely, it doesn't have that oniony bouquet that sliders have either, I think I would've preferred that, perhaps next time I will ask for onions on it. The IB is a nice & soft patty that is more than twice as thick as a slider but the same length & width as the bun. The texture is pretty good actually & it suffers a bit from the same blandness that a non-meat patty always does but it isn't bad at all, but it is served well by adding fixings: pickle, onions, ketchup... So this carnivore who needs to vary his meat intake actually gives the Impossible Slider a "thumbs up" considering the inherent limitations of the genre. I will happily order it again. read more

I have been a longtime White Castle fan, but it is pretty outrageous that in Sunnyside, you can't get a White Castle unless you have a car. Drive-thru only, it says. This in a community where a majority of the residents don't have a car. Never mind that driving a car in New York City is, pandemic or no, a totally irresponsible act. They have tables and benches outside which allows us to watch our bikes while enjoying the spring sun. Worst customer service ever. Ordered online for a later pickup, only to have a voicemail message left stating that they don't have the BBQ Brisket Slider because the promotion has ended - even though they are listed on the website as being available, not to mention ON THE BLOODY MARQUEE THAT I PASSED ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING. I called them back, and this rude...woman (not the word that I want to use, but I gotta keep it PG)...answered the phone, and when I said that I received a message from someone there, she snaps at me that "I didn't call you I don't know what you're talking about." Got myself a regular slider, cheese slider and the featured: Ultimate Jalapeno Cheese Slider. The regular was delicious, flavorful and the cheese one was good. I prefer the regular slider over with cheese. The Ultimate Jalapeno Cheese Slider was really really good. I tad biffer than the regular slider stuffed with melted cheese, sweet yet hot spiced jalapeno peppers and some kind of sauce. It made for a tangy, spicy, light hot spot on the tongue and flavor senses. Normally, I dine in but went through the drive through for a quick on the go snack. The line was long today, normally, this being my local White Castle, has medium to slow traffic of customers. The interior being not so clean, not so up to date, kind of worn for all these decades of operation, but not overly dirty or trashy. Lines are often short. If you are into fast food then white castle is a must once in a while. This location has all the favorites and always has new items coming on the menu. I particularly like the fact that they were way out in front offering vegetarian alternatives, long before it was fashionable. Fish nibbles remain a firm favorite along with the loaded fries. The setting is utilitarian but the food is better than many gourmet burger joints at half the price. One word of warning regarding this particular location, i.e. Sunnyside. It has fallen prey to general ongoing social decline happening in New York at present. On my last visit homeless people were sleeping at the tables, customers in line were getting aggressively pannhandled and the whole restaurant stank. Got there around 9ish and the place not busy at all. Few customers before us waiting on their order, but empty tables everywhere. We were hungry and ordered like crazy. We got fish, veggie, fries, loaded fries, chicken fries, onion rings, original, cheeseburger, jalapeno cheeseburger, and even clams strips. They messed up our food order, but no big deal. Here is my short history of White Castle knowledge: Childhood: On car trips through the Midwest, I would see this cool looking fast food place and ask my parents, "What's THAT?" They replied: "Grade F Meat." College: Since my school (seemed like it) was mostly kids from Jersey, everyone was obsessed with White Castle. Cinema: Ah yes, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. No seriously, it's a good comedy movie. In conclusion - White Castle has a niche market... if you are over the age of 25 (and not a stoner) do NOT eat these burgers. They are crap. But you kinda have to love the essence of White Castle, not really the food. I indulged in the essence a couple times at this location. It's SUNNYSIDE, which is always ranked one of the safest neighborhoods yet this White Castle (and the Burger King nearby) usually have some dicey characters in it. It's perfect for babies to grannies as they require no chewing. This review is specifically for the V-day special they had yesterday. We went with another couple and we were not let down. The wonderous "waitress" seated us in a cozy reserved table and served us with Sprite aka. champagne. She took our orders and came back with it all with a smile.
