I came by Whistle Stop Ale House on a Tuesday for lunch. Thankfully I had called and make a reservation because it was pretty busy for a weekday! We had a big of 13 people and they were able to seat us all together. Our waitress was very kind and on top of orders. I ordered the Nashville burger and it was very tasty although a little greasier than I would've liked. I got the tater tots and thought they were really good! It was a good portion and I was stuffed when I left. The ambiance was great! I thought it would be a lot emptier and quieter for a Tuesday but was glad there were lots of other people there. This is one of the first restaurants that my wife and I went to when moving to Renton, and I can honestly say that the food is amazing, and the service is so wonderful. Such amazing people and the atmosphere is relaxing and fun. It can get loud inside but eh that's the way busy restaurants should be people talk and eat. Love it. Got there right when they opened on a weekday, and the floors still had old spilled food and crumbs all over the floor, and all 3 of our meals were really bad, one of which was sent back because the cheese was old and crusty, it was just a gross experience, new management is needed here, badly. This has become our go-to place to eat in Renton. Reasonably priced and great service. The beer list is very good with a number of local breweries served. I was in Renton and awaiting for Melrose Grill to open so we could have a steak and meet up with a dining friend. We looked around and found Whistle Stop was a block or so away and dropped by for a pre-dinner drink. Whistle Stop has a nice outdoor garden area where there are plenty of tables and shade if you're looking for an outdoor venue. Today, we just wanted to visit the bar and have a quick drink. So, we sat down and nice bar, very relaxing and got some prompt attention by the bartender. Had both an old fashion where the bar rye was Nickel and drank a amber that was on tap. I don't remember the name of the beer, but let me say it was very cold and one of the coldest beers that I can remember. Met here with a group of friends. Had the fish tacos, absolutely delicious. The service was pretty fast and efficient. We all got separate checks without problems (some restaurants, believe it or not, won't do separate checks) and a 20% gratuity was auto-added to the check so no extra tip required. read more

This place has gone way downhill. My wife and I used to go here about 1x a month for the corned beef hash, but it's not the same. First, the service is slow and kind of rude. We waited about 10 minutes before getting out drinks and there was very little seeming care by the staff. I will say, staff is working hard, but I believe they don't have enough people in the front of the house. Second, the food is fairly bland and is just not good enough to deserve anything above 2 stars. I ordered a steak salad, medium. It was almost well done (see picture). Visited on a Friday night and was really disappointed in the quality of food, but i get it, its an ale house. Their drinks were decently priced though. Mocktails were priced low at around $4-$5 and cocktails were about $5-$10. Ordered the Nashville Chicken Sandwich and Club Sandwich. Our friend thought the Chicken Sandwich has always consistently been good each time they visited, but my husband noted that the chicken could be crispy and the bread could be toasted. The club sandwich was okay. Ordered it on sourdough. With the presentation and taste, im glad it was only $8.50. Service seemed overwhelmed with the amount of people they were serving. Could be due to a huge party present in the middle of the place. They did not seem like they wanted to help us at all and just did because they had to. What a fun little place. People kept telling us about this and finally we decided to give it a try. Sort of on a back street of Renton pretty close to I 405. The server told us they were busy and there would be a wait so we sat at the bar and the service was perfect. We hardly waited al all. You can get breakfast until 2:00 and a good assortment of appetizers and sandwiches are available as well. They also have several specials on a blackboard as well as a list of a lot of beers if you're into trying new stuff. I had a Renton Depot Sandwich, chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion if you wanted it and pesto and mayo. Came on toasted sourdough and a choice of fries, tots or chips or upcharge to a salad or a couple of other sides. It was yummy and big enough for me to bring half home for later. This place is a perfect setting for a casual lunch. It's nice inside without the feeling that you are paying extra for ambiance. They are fairly busy at lunch but the waitresses are efficient. You don't feel ignored. They also don't make you feel like you're particularly important to them either. They have a decent range of beers on tap. I had a Reuben sandwich that is on the lower end of all the Reubens I have had before. Not bad but not special. The meat wasn't tough yet hard to bite completely through so I ended up pulling the innards out with each bite and then having to push them back in. My friend had an omelette that he really liked. He asked for no onion and for added ham and it was done perfectly. A better way to judge a restaurant than assigning stars is to say whether you would go back for another meal. I would. It was midday and I realized that I hadn't had anything to eat yet, which isn't really recommended when getting a tattoo. :) The vibe here is cozy and the service was nice. My visit was quick and I got their smoked chicken quesadilla and a beer. They had a good amount of drink selections on tap and the hazy that I got was good, and from a brewery that I hadn't tried before. The smoked chicken quesadilla was a decent size (I only finished half) and was so good! I loved the sauce that they drizzled on it, some sort of chipotle ranch. The first time I went here was good, the pancakes tasted good, and it felt like a nice, quiet little corner of the world to have breakfast in. The second time I went, was the total opposite. Loud, crowded, with an unpleasant smell about the restaurant - like something was moldy or rotting - that smell also seemed to pronounce itself in my pancakes, something tasted very off in them.
