Bottom line this was a great meal, with great service and a great place. Went for a lunch on a Sunday. I think we were the first customers or the day. Place is located in a strip mall and it looks like they are expanding. The inside is decorated impeccably and very clean. Ordered the ribs with a salad. The salad had good blue cheese dressing. The croutons were a little stale and the lettuce was most likely from a bag. It wasn't bad - the dressing was good and I like black olives which added flavor. The Ribs. I don't think I have ever ordered beef ribs because no one ever can make them tender and most of the time they are overcooked. Not so here. The ribs were very good and had good bbq sauce. The bbq sauce it came with was probably store bought but it was still good. Really enjoyed. One suggestion is to season the ribs a little more. They were tender, but a little more salt would have kicked it up a notch. All in all - great experience and food. read more

From the moment you open the door this place looked like a winner. It's small but has both table seating and high top seating, it's clean, and decor is great. The staff were fantastic! So friendly and checked in to make sure we were good. I had the Tri-Tip Chefs Salad (minus olives and tomatoes). It was a large portion, fresh and the meat had a great Smokey taste. We were in last night 6/19 around 630p for dinner for the first time. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience. I'm not one to blast social media but I definitely felt I should contact you. The resturant was clean and inviting and the service was friendly but the food was not good. We ordered a rib plate, tri tip plate and kabob plate with cowboy caviar, Mac and cheese and potato salad. First the ranch salad dressing that came on the house salad tasted like warm hidden valley ranch from a bottle not good, the potatos in the potato salad were hard and massive chuncks which were difficult to even cut smaller do to the doneness and there was no flavor in it other then mayo and egg, the mac and cheese tasted as though it was a day or so old and reheated and again flavorless but was not grainy like some, the cowboy caviar was ok could have done with a little less liquid. The tri tip plate came with 3 small pieces of meat the flavor was fine but not the amount you expect for a $30 plate of food there was more bread then meat. The Rib plate the beef ribs were dry and hardly any meat and you ran out of them so we ended up with a some pork ribs that were greasy and flavorless. The kabobs were a good size and the meat was cooked well but it was so over peppered you could barely eat them. Your beer choices were good and the bloody mary we ordered was fine.We eat out 2 times a month as our family treat especially bbq and steak house type places and I was really sad to be unable too reccomended your location. To top it off all 3 of us have had stomach issues since last night and into today. I really hope this feed back helps and some changes can be made as I am a big supporter of small business but For $130 with out the tip absolutely disappointing and that is alot of money for our one income family to spend. read more

A friend and I decided on BBQ the other evening and since we hadn't been to Whiskeytown BBQ in a few months, decided to head on over. Boy am I glad we did. For the first time I ordered the beef ribs. Great flavor, healthy portion and good service (although a little slow due to light staffing and a busy night). Great food and big portions - except for the side dishes which are oddly small (my only complaint). Everything looks fresh and homemade. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you arrive at 6 pm, expect to wait 10-20 minutes for a table; seating is limited. Get the 1.1 pound burger if you want leftovers for lunch tomorrow. The pinquito beans are a bit spicy, which I liked. The Cowboy Caviar is a good bean salad that looks like it includes green chilies. We saw someone order the rootbeer float - it was HUGE. They also have a large wine menu. Ambiance is dark at night, but someone did a great job decorating the place - it feels "cowboy ranch." This is at Whiskeytown Barbecue CO. Absolutely amazing meal. I got the $28 rib platter. There wasn't a description on the type of rib so I was expecting pork ribs but turns out to be 3 huge beef ribs. From my experience beef ribs can be difficult and time consuming so a lot of places refrain from having beef ribs on the menu but these were fall off the bone. Absolutely worth the price. And then my table got a free round of rootbeer floats and the were HUGE. Wasn't just some regular rootbeer either. It was a brand I've never heard of and it was the best dessert I've had in a while. The staff was amazing and friendly and you can tell that the people that come here are people who have been here often. The atmosphere was amazing and football games were on. Amazing food !! We decided last minute to go out to eat and wanted to try something new. As we were driving, we heard the announcement of whiskytown BBQ and decided to try that instead of going to our go to BBQ spot. The staff was so friendly. The owner came over to check on us and she was very kind as well. The food... now that's a whole new level of goodness !! We had the brisket burger, my son ordered the ribs and I had the tri tip sandwich all of which were so good ! Oh and did I me tion their desserts !! It's ok if you have no tastebuds.. Took 30 min for a brisket sandwich and Tri-tip nachos. Sandwich was dry and nachos had no tri-tip or fresh tomatoes, onions or other dressing just canned cheese and cilantro. I didn't even try to eat the nachos. I let the manager know, there resolution is let me make you more food..NO THANKS. Once is enough. Won't go back . Service was slow and staff uninterested in quality of service. read more

I came here later on a Tuesday night, not sure what to expect based on recent reviews. I ordered a trip tip sandwich to go, it was out in 5 minutes and the meat was tender and seasoned nicely, my kids and I split this and loved it. Atmosphere is fantastic. The owners spent a lot of time handcrafting the interior to have the decor match the atmosphere they're going for. The menu is simple and straightforward. Water is served in glasses and you get to keep a glass liter of water at the table. I ordered the Tri-tip Platter and the house pretzel. Both were so delicious. You can easily taste the oaky flavor in the meat and it was cooked to perfection. If you want additional sauces or salad dressings you can ask for it. It's not the cheapest food spot in Redding, but the meat is better than anywhere else here. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

Came in on a Tuesday night. Nice decor! Server said they were out of brisket and ribs. So, they had tri-tip, everything. Got the loaded mac and cheese. Came out in a cereal bowl with literally 3 oz of tri-tip. Pitiful. Beers were good, but sevice slow, with less than 10 people. Favorite new local spot in town! The ambiance inside is so cool, this place definitely has character. Very thoughtful details made it unique - loved the glass bottle of water at the table for quick refills, free cowboy caviar appetizer, and the branding. Small inside but cozy and very quick and attentive service from the whole staff, including the owner. We ordered a Bavarian pretzel appetizer, the homemade beer cheese sauce was delicious! Tri-tip platter was excellent. The meat was perfectly seasoned, tender, and the oak wood flavor stood out. The beans were one of my favorite parts of the meal - very flavorful. My girlfriend and I were curious about this place, as we're both Central Coast natives (lived in Lompoc, SM, AG, and Orcutt), and were essentially raised on Santa Maria style BBQ. So gave it a shot: This place does some things well, and other things not so well. We decided to split a Santa Maria style tri-tip platter to go since it was $25. Was curious what a $25 platter of tri-tip would look like. Assumed it would include quite a bit....but to our comical surprise, when we got home...THREE pieces of tri-tip about 3 inches in diameter. Total. I mean, pretty disappointing. You can essentially get this same platter for $10-$15 from church fundraisers any weekend, in any town on the Central Coast, and most people paying $10 for this $25 platter would complain about the light amount of tri-tip, they'd get for $10. Pretty disappointing. Now, the flavor of the tri-tip is decent. I don't think it's cooked authentic Santa Maria style...because red oak isn't necessarily available in Redding to cook it over, but it still tastes pretty good. Their beans are done well. Pinquito beans were very tasty. They're not as spicy as a lot of variations down south, but still pretty tasty. I didn't receive any salsa or pico in my order for some reason, so I can't comment on that. So...pros and cons. I prob won't eat there again till they adjust the pricing a bit, (or add an amount of meat that doesn't make me chuckle when I open the tray). Glad they're opened and making an effort bringing some central coast flavor into Redding though...they just need to iron out some kinks. They're like halfway there though. read more

I had a tri-tip bbq sandwich tonight with a side of Mac and cheese. I was in there around 6 on a Saturday night. I was worried about getting decent service with one server and a helper. The place was busy but I found a stool at the bar. The food was really good and the servers pulled off the rush and quickly had it cleaned up and ready for the next round of customers. People and service great ambiance great food selection... NOT BBQ lol it's a 50 steak with a baked potato and green beans or if you order anything else there are no sides. The brisket burger comes by itself dry on a soft bun that falls apart and I can't even get simple potato chips or fries or Mac and cheese crap can't get anything but a lonely burger that has nothing bbq about it but the sauce and a sore butt from waiting and hour to get it. I forgot the Name of this place the second I walked the door. If you think this is BBQ as some other reviews have said then you live in a shoe box and think a McRib is real pork. BBQ needs options chicken pork beef and something to order on the side other than garlic bread. I wish them all the best I'm sure it's well intentioned to serve good food but sorry it's just not in my book BBQ doesn't fit the menu other than the sauce on the plate read more

Great atmosphere & help was kind and very excited to work there. I ordered the beef platter for take out. Small salad was fresh but absolutely no dressing! Garlic bread was stale, tri-trip was so-so not very favorable, beans were good but a bit on the spicy side. The platter was priced at $25.00--expensive I thought!. I want this place to succeed.
