I visited the Whiskey Kitchen for the first time at lunch. I really like the atmosphere and layout, but unfortunately the food wasn't as good. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad it just wasn't great. The roast beef sandwich I ordered was a special item for the day but tasted like it may have been just the rest of the prime rib meet from a couple days ago. Also, the fries or potato wedges they provide were a bit over cooked on the outside. We were in a large group and they did provide great customer service and were very accommodating. I'm sure if I ordered something different on the menu I'd have a better experience. read more

This was my second time at Whiskey Kitchen...first time around everything was great. Second time around the food was good but service was terrible. 1st the waitress was unfriendly, 2nd she brought out a water glass with lipstick on it. When we asked for a new glass she acted indifferent and did not apologize for the dirty glass. Lastly, the bun was burnt and I had to track down another server just to get it replaced. Although the food was tasty the waitress made the experience unenjoyable by not even responding to us when we would say thank you. Mixed bag on service. read more

Nice atmosphere. Hipster vibes. Warehouse setting with garage doors that open all the way and a patio in the front. Was nice to have a drink with a band playing right outside. I ordered a random beer off of the extensive menu and I'm no beer fanatic but I do appreciate trying new beers. They were out of the beer I wanted and the bartender suggested something else. He said it was slightly stronger which I was fine with but he didn't mention it was twice the price! I wasn't crazy about spending $10 for 16oz bottle of beer. Shame on me for not asking the price but also shame on him for not warning me. My take: if a bar is out of a beer and recommends a replacement, best practice would be to charge the replacement beer at the same price and better yet if it's not possible, let the customer know. Like other reviews have mentioned, the service is horrible, cold, and possibly outright racist. Once seated, our server bought water to the table and proceeded by asking did we decide on something-he just plopped the water down (somewhat aggressively). I was taken aback so I said first of all, HELLO! I asked him what his name was and does he usually greet his table that way? He said his name was Dakota and that, "he wasn't trying to be rude." I was done after that and knew I wouldn't be ordering anything else. I mean no hello, how are ya'll today, welcome, etc. WOW! To make matters worse, I took my drink to the bartender to see if he could make it more like a whiskey sour or something similar. He was not at all interested in assisting me with making the drink satisfactory and was also very condescending when I made a mistake by mentioning a wrong ingredient in the drink. So let's just say the server and bartender were both "nice nasty." We were the only black table at the time and didn't feel welcomed at all. I'm not saying you have to bend over backwards-I'm just saying treat us the same way you're treating everyone else...you know, the BARE minimum. I've been a server for 10+ years and know exactly what it's like when someone would prefer not to wait on you due to their biases. I begrudgingly still left 20% because I'm sure he was thinking he wasn't going to get a tip. I live in DC but am from Raleigh, NC and unfortunately this is not the first time I've been treated this way in Raleigh. They should take notes from the servers in DC about all that matters is GREEN-not what color someone is! Plus, we're all HUMAN-when are we going to stop treating people like sh*t because the color of their skin?? How unfortunate that we as black people can't even go out to eat and feel comfortable because of places like this. I've been wanting to try this restaurant each time I came home. I finally had the chance to see what all the talk was about. Let me just say that the restaurant layout encourages fellowship, so take a group of friends with you. First I'll start with the waiter. Awesome!! He was knowledgeable and patient since we were first timers. At one point he sat at the table with us and gave us recommendations ( on whiskey drinks of course) . We ordered the farm cheese, fall salad, lamb burger and whole fish! We enjoyed everything except the farm cheese. The waiter noticed that we didn't eat the farm cheese and asked us was it ok. We explained that we didn't really like it and before we knew it the owner came to the table and we provided him with more specifics regarding the cheese. During our visit in Raleigh we met the chefs of the whiskey kitchen (Adam, Clayton and Aaron. They are so amazing and kind, wish they had a yelp page to review them personally) who assured us we would not be disappointed if we stopped by for dinner. We had about 12 people for dinner. Our server was sweet and accommodating. The menu is well curated, focusing on quality over quantity. We had appetizers, cocktails and entrees and everything was incredible. We went there last night after booking the Trolley Pub Raleigh ride for my birthday. We had two outdoor tables booked (Elizabeth called before we arrived). There were three couples at one table and a family of four and one couple-where I was, it was MY birthday sitting. I ordered a Chef's board for each table (our waiter name Aaron). We got ours and the other table finally got theirs. Then we ordered at the same time. Our dinner came and we ate it (thinking the other table had theirs-not). My sister brought small cakes and brownies for both tables. She thought they had already eaten. Their food NEVER came! They found our waiter and he said he would get their food to go. By then with all the drinks, we all wanted to go. He said he would not charge for everything and brought only two bags (there were 3 couples). He ended up charging them for everything $315!. Our son gave him a VERY good tip saying it wasn't his fault-but wasn't it. Even though they have different people serving the food, isn't it the waiter's responsibility to check on the table after they have gotten their food to make sure all is right?!?! My husband ended up paying for it (after three bourbons/drinks) just to get it done so we could leave. I wanted to talk to the manager but everyone was standing around waiting to leave so we left! I was not happy with what happened and I will not be going back there if ever. I got a Frisco burger. I asked for it medium well and it came burnt. I ate a couple of bites-too dry. I will not order it again. The meat on the Chef's board was tough-could not bite all the way through, ended up having to spit it out into a napkin-sorry yuck. The mustard was very spicy but good. The rest of the platter was good especially the pimento cheese and cheese. The drinks must have been good, the guys kept ordering them. I guess after awhile, you do not need to eat or you don't care. Bartenders are a little sparse, meaning service might take a little longer, but when you do get service, they are the best. They are great about letting your sample a beer or bourbon before buying. Food menu is interesting, delicious, and decently priced. The space is large and has many different areas to accommodate groups and dates alike. Restrooms are nice and clean. Cust service was awful. We called to make a reservation and we're told they didn't take them, so we asked if we could put our names on the waitlist since it was currently 45 minutes. They told us we had to be there. So we went, put our names on the waitlist and told them we wanted a table outside, because of well, you know, the pandemic thing. After waiting an hour we asked the hostess how much longer it would be and found out they took our names off the waitlist - without telling us - because we turned down the seats at the bar inside that they offered us. The open atmosphere is great for city-gazing, people watching, and generally enjoying warm summer evenings outside. The food is good (especially the cauliflower) and the drinks are strong. Basing this review off of 3 visits over a couple years. The food is fine - did not have anything that was undercooked, poorly prepared or anything along those lines. It was just fine - smaller portions, nothing really stands out. The whiskey selection is large and diverse so very true to their name here. My bigger issues have been with the service and value. For instance the bbq platter was mostly fat and small for the price. One time we were seated early for brunch and another large party seated after us had their cocktails before us, a two top that day. We were 1/2 done with our food before the drinks arrived. Another time I came by to sit at the bar as a solo diner. No room at tables (understandable) bar looked to be full (also fine), I asked if I could go inside to see if a seat was open and wait for one if not and was told no - it felt more like "go away". After being by for 2 dinners and 1 brunch the past 3 times visiting I don't feel the need to go back. It's not that it's bad but I don't feel it's a great value or worth the hassle of dealing with how crowded it gets. read more
