Great BBQ. Slider selection was more than enough. BBQ chicken was great. Service was nice. Could do with sauce bottle(s) on table southern style...

I hate barbeque. I'm not a fan of the sauce, not a fan of the grill (an oven works just fine for cooking, thank you) and would rather just do without. However, when I think of When Pigs Fly South, my mouth starts to water. Their food is delicious, and even someone like myself who doesn't enjoy barbecue can find something to eat. Their menu has an ample selection of entrees and sides, although the shrimp and grits is my personal favorite. The sauce on the top folds into the grits so not to be overwhelming, and the result is creamy and almost a little sweet. The flavor is trapped to the shrimp by their shells, and my only complaint is I wish it came with more. The decor is cute, as one might guess lots of pigs are involved. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and they seem to start cooking right when they open, so you may have a slight delay there. (Nothing too bad though, I think the worst was 20 minutes) They are definitely worth the visit.

Brown mac n cheese with no cheese, and the pulled pork (which wasnt terrible)

Its not often I cant find any redeeming values of a restaurant, but here we go. We ordered sliced brisket platter, with corn bread and mac n cheese, and the pulled pork . Ill start with the Pros: The honey corn bread was really good. They were tiny, but good. The peach hot sauce was really good as well with a really nice flavor, a very nice heat and nice texture. The pulled pork was "OK". Thats it for pro's. The cons: They got my order wrong, I got chopped brisket, not sliced. Not the end of the world, its still brisket. However its probably the worst brisket Ive ever had. There is no way this meat spent any time in a smoker. It was like pot roast with sauce on it, and had no flavor to it. I ate maybe 25% of it and had to toss the rest, it was THAT bad. The mac n cheese was weird...and brown. It was mealy and not cheesy at all, Im not even sure what the hell it was to be honest (see picture). It was also really expensive, between what you see in the two pictures, was over $40. Im not really sure how other reviewers can give it so many stars! If you're in town and are hungry, I highly suggest passing on this place and going somewhere else. Ill also add that during this time of pandemic, 1 person behind the counter was wearing a mask properly, one had it on his chin and the woman wasnt even wearing one. I almost walked out on that fact alone.

Right - pulled pork and pulled chicken Left - Mac and cheese (dry) and cornbread muffins (front) Back - baked beans and brisket

My fiance and I were very hungry after a long hike. We were craving BBQ and found this place. We were pretty underwhelmed, honestly. We ordered 1/2 LB of brisket and the pulled chicken & pulled pork platter. We wanted ribs, but they had sold out already which was very disappointing. The brisket was tender, but was soaked in sauce, the pulled pork definitely had some dry spots, but was soaked in sauce, and the chicken was pretty dry, BUT WAS SOAKED IN SAUCE. You see the theme here.. too much sauce on everything. Nothing that we received seemed like it was freshly made. The corn bread was really nothing special, the baked beans were sweet, and the mac and cheese was very dry. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. Overall... lackluster experience. (I also believe that we were overcharged for our food.)

Stopped in for a late lunch after a fishing trip to Mudge Pond was cut short because of a windy afternoon. Ordered the pulled pork platter, my two sides were Mac & Cheese and coleslaw. Total was just over $19, but I had to pay an additional $4.50 because When Pigs Fly Southern Bbq does not accept plastic. I had to use the "In-House ATM" (which stated the 2 dollars is a processing fee going to When Pigs Fly, plus I had to pay an additional fee of $2.50 on top of that because the ATM was not my bank's). A bit miffed by that charge, but next time I'll make sure I have cash on hand when I enter this establishment. Anyhow, the Q was as good as my previous trips. Generous portions. Pork was decent-tasting, moist, a hint of smoke, w/ some bark. Coleslaw was excellent, very tasty. Mac & Cheese was good, but needed a bit of salt. I like that it was not creamy. When Pigs Fly serves quality BBQ. It's head & shoulders above most Q found in the North. I'm a Fan of food, but not of the business practice of not accepting cc's. C'mon, this is 2018, people rarely carry cash anymore. In the near future, don't be surprised if we don't use cash at all. Not accepting plastic is Bush League.

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on South Street with its own private parking lot is this gem. What looks like a seemingly medium-sized house on the side of the street is this unique spot. Out back there are several smokers that are fed with wood on a regular basis. Once inside you'll see the rustic concept. Lots of wood everywhere and a pretty open concept. Directly in front of you is the circular bar and off to the left is the main dining room. The lighting is warm and inviting as well. Service: The whole staff really took care of us since we were a pretty big party. We had no issues whatsoever. Food: So I got to try A LOT of things here. I started off with the Just Peachy which is Crowne Royal Peach served with a whiskey-soaked peach and some sweet tea. It was deliciously well-balanced and simple with only 3 major ingredients. Next up was the Homestyle Honey Cornbread. This was very good, soft and simple, I do wish the butter was warmer though so that it was easier to spread. Next up was the Honey Sriracha Glazed Pork Belly. It was so soft, so tender, savory and flavorful. I loved the bit of char from the "skin" and the sweet/spiciness was a great addition. Next up was the Smokey Mac & Cheese that comes served in a super hot skillet and it was SUPER CHEESY, yet very thick as well. This was so delicious, peppery, a bit sharp, but I really enjoyed it. Next up were the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings which are an excellent menu choice for those that don't eat meat. They're served over a blue cheese coleslaw and this was an awesome idea! I was very impressed because coleslaw is usually made with mayonnaise, using bleu cheese was brilliant. The "wings" themselves were crispy and flavorful. Next up was the Farmboys Old Fashioned which is a twist on the original classic. In it is Basil Hayden Toast Premium Bourbon and other secret ingredients. This was delicious as well and was just a hint too sweet to me. Next up were the Super Sloppy Nachos. These are a concoction of melted cheddar, homemade cheese sauce, baked beans, ranch, BBQ sauce, scallions, jalapenos and pulled pork. You can get chicken instead if you wish. These were delicious and very straightfroward, but pretty heavy. I actually really liked the fresh jalapenos that provided a bit of a crunch along with the chips. Very good. Next up were the Brussels Sprouts which are served with crispy pork belly and hot honey sauce. I mean, I guess these aren't healthy as they once were anymore. Lol. These were straight though. I liked how they were cooked and the other flavors involved drowned out the actual Brussels flavor. Second to last was the beef brisket. It was amazing and was so incredibly tender. Just simply amazing. I don't have anything else to say. Lastly, the smoked wings. These were super tender and they still had a crispy skin! The smokey flavor was excellent and there were hints of Cajun, maybe creole in it as well. I loved these so much. Value: Barbecue is usually on a bit of the pricey side, but that's just the way it goes. The food usually takes a lot longer and time is money. That's about it. This place wasn't crazy though and the portions are big so you definitely get your money's worth. In conclusion, I really, really liked this place and just wish it were closer to me so that I could visit more often. However, if you're on that side of the state or not, make your way there to check them out!

My wife and son were super excited to try barbecue at this famous local spot, but we definitely caught them on an off night. Reviews are mostly good for this place, so I guess timing and circumstances are at play. My wife ordered the peach cocktail and they were out. I ordered the RIBS, they were out !!! They didn't have the sausage for the combination platter and came out a couple of minutes later saying they had it (most likely just seared because the smoke was not there when we were eating). They were out of Brussel sprouts. They were out of MUSTARD !! I ordered a house pilsner they were out and I ordered another beer. Need i say more? On a good note they can barbecue. The brisket was very good. Great smoke ring and true winner. The pulled pork and chicken both had good smoke. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but it was still good. Baked beans were good. My wife absolutely loved the cole slaw. Waitress was very good. Polite, apologetic and serviced us very well. We addressed our disappointment and hopefully by summer this famous BBQ spot can get back on track.

Parking the car I happen to notice very nice outside seating in the backyard, and walking up to the restaurant, the wonderful smell of the different meats and smoker happening! I was hoping this visit was gonna be something special! I entered into this little restaurant and was greeted warmly by possibly one of the owners. My order was placed for a beef brisket sandwich, that includes a side order of coleslaw, for $14.95. The fountain drink was $3.50. So for $20, I felt this was not a mistake driving all the way out here Let me tell you, the beef brisket had a lovely char ring, with pink juicy color inside . This generous portion was served on a lovely soft sandwich roll, along with the requested spicy barbecue sauce on the side. The juiciness and taste of this wonderful beef brisket exploding in my mouth told me I made a wonderful choice. Also accompanying the sandwich was a small order of coleslaw, that was both sweet and vinegary, with nice crunchy cabbage. This was delicious also. The service was extremely quick, almost like it was fast food, I think the sandwich was served me within two minutes. This was unexpected and appreciated. If you're looking for a quick lunch, Zach and Lou's would be a great choice. The inside of the restaurant was clean and simple. A few tables inside, but the outside seating area looked very inviting to just sit and enjoy a lunch. It was just too hot for me on this day. The restroom was neutral, and extremely clean My thoughts are, if you are in the northwest Hills craving some really good barbecue, this would be a good destination. The menu was short and sweet, with lightning quick service. I look forward to returning again soon.

It was good chicken, but needed ketchup (is that sacrilegious for a bar be que restaurant?) The Mac and cheese was AMAZING with lots of cheese and mixed so the toasted top was spread throughout. If you like bar-be-que sauce, they offer sweet or spicy, and let you apply your own. Great service too, even though people kept coming in, asking detailed questions, they moved quickly.
