Stumbled upon this place after doing a hike with my family and we were hungry for some lunch but far away from home. The reviews looked decent and nothing else seemed to be opened so we ended up trying it. The food here was incredible! For a tiny little restaurant they had some legit BBQ food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was mouthwatering good. My dad ordered the ribs with a dry rub and bbq sauce on the side and they were delicious and then my friend ordered the brisket sandwich and said it was perfect. We also got sides of deviled eggs which were yummy, the collard greens that my dad ordered were outstanding and the Mac and cheese my friend had was awesome. The sweet tea and lemonade we got was just as great as the food. This place is really worth it and I totally recommend it for a weekend drive or if you're in the area! As a heads up they only offer outdoor seating because of covid and no bathrooms. Sadly didn't take any pictures because we were too hungry. read more

Stopped by here for breakfast before getting on the barge ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Mom & pop place, I felt at home with some good cooking. Cute place, friendly staff and a parking lot. They had cute little piggies with wings all throughout the interior. Loved it here! read more

When Pigs Fly Southern Bbq - Top: Slider Trio with Macaroni And Cheese Bottom: California Chicken Sandwich with Honey Butter Cornbread - Barbeque Near Me - Sharon, Connecticut

First time trying and it was quite underwhelming. Pulled pork was dry, "cornbread" was floury mini corn muffins, corn pudding was creamed corn made with evaporated milk. Wings were slightly burned, and baked beans floated in a super sweet bbq sauce. The coleslaw was not good - tasted slightly of the plastic container. First and last time purchasing. Sad because we need a good bbq joint in the area and I was hoping this would be it. read more

I hate barbeque. I'm not a fan of the sauce, not a fan of the grill (an oven works just fine for cooking, thank you) and would rather just do without. However, when I think of When Pigs Fly South, my mouth starts to water. Their food is delicious, and even someone like myself who doesn't enjoy barbecue can find something to eat. Their menu has an ample selection of entrees and sides, although the shrimp and grits is my personal favorite. The sauce on the top folds into the grits so not to be overwhelming, and the result is creamy and almost a little sweet. The flavor is trapped to the shrimp by their shells, and my only complaint is I wish it came with more. The decor is cute, as one might guess lots of pigs are involved. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and they seem to start cooking right when they open, so you may have a slight delay there. (Nothing too bad though, I think the worst was 20 minutes) They are definitely worth the visit. read more

Its not often I cant find any redeeming values of a restaurant, but here we go. We ordered sliced brisket platter, with corn bread and mac n cheese, and the pulled pork . Ill start with the Pros: The honey corn bread was really good. They were tiny, but good. The peach hot sauce was really good as well with a really nice flavor, a very nice heat and nice texture. The pulled pork was "OK". Thats it for pro's. The cons: They got my order wrong, I got chopped brisket, not sliced. Not the end of the world, its still brisket. However its probably the worst brisket Ive ever had. There is no way this meat spent any time in a smoker. It was like pot roast with sauce on it, and had no flavor to it. I ate maybe 25% of it and had to toss the rest, it was THAT bad. The mac n cheese was weird...and brown. It was mealy and not cheesy at all, Im not even sure what the hell it was to be honest (see picture). It was also really expensive, between what you see in the two pictures, was over $40. Im not really sure how other reviewers can give it so many stars! If you're in town and are hungry, I highly suggest passing on this place and going somewhere else. Ill also add that during this time of pandemic, 1 person behind the counter was wearing a mask properly, one had it on his chin and the woman wasnt even wearing one. I almost walked out on that fact alone. read more

A friend who lives in Sharon recommended this place to us, and we drove over from Goshen on a cold night in February. Somehow we were expecting a regular restaurant, but this is primarily a takeout place with a few tables where they will bring you your food after it's ordered at the window. All that being said, the BBQ was darn good and better than one would expect for a barbecue place in rural Connecticut. The ribs were tender and tasty, and the beans were terrific. Even the cornbread was quite good. My my wife's beer can chicken was extremely tender and tasty. It was a bit chilly in the dining area and they turned up the heat at our request right away and it was quite comfortable there after Highly recommended. read more

My fiance and I were very hungry after a long hike. We were craving BBQ and found this place. We were pretty underwhelmed, honestly. We ordered 1/2 LB of brisket and the pulled chicken & pulled pork platter. We wanted ribs, but they had sold out already which was very disappointing. The brisket was tender, but was soaked in sauce, the pulled pork definitely had some dry spots, but was soaked in sauce, and the chicken was pretty dry, BUT WAS SOAKED IN SAUCE. You see the theme here.. too much sauce on everything. Nothing that we received seemed like it was freshly made. The corn bread was really nothing special, the baked beans were sweet, and the mac and cheese was very dry. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. Overall... lackluster experience. (I also believe that we were overcharged for our food.) read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after a fishing trip to Mudge Pond was cut short because of a windy afternoon. Ordered the pulled pork platter, my two sides were Mac & Cheese and coleslaw. Total was just over $19, but I had to pay an additional $4.50 because When Pigs Fly Southern Bbq does not accept plastic. I had to use the "In-House ATM" (which stated the 2 dollars is a processing fee going to When Pigs Fly, plus I had to pay an additional fee of $2.50 on top of that because the ATM was not my bank's). A bit miffed by that charge, but next time I'll make sure I have cash on hand when I enter this establishment. Anyhow, the Q was as good as my previous trips. Generous portions. Pork was decent-tasting, moist, a hint of smoke, w/ some bark. Coleslaw was excellent, very tasty. Mac & Cheese was good, but needed a bit of salt. I like that it was not creamy. When Pigs Fly serves quality BBQ. It's head & shoulders above most Q found in the North. I'm a Fan of food, but not of the business practice of not accepting cc's. C'mon, this is 2018, people rarely carry cash anymore. In the near future, don't be surprised if we don't use cash at all. Not accepting plastic is Bush League. read more

Excellent food and selection. Will be returning. Everything was cooked perfectly. Excellent locatiom and ambiance.

Good BBQ and sides in a rustic space. Im partial to the Mac and cheese. But its all good

Found this gem on Yelp this morning. I called first to see if they had beer on the menu. No they don't, but you can byob of either beer or wine. It was an hour away but easy to find. Very quaint and rustic. To say the food was good is an understatement. I had a full rack of ribs, 11 in all, with just the right amount of bbq sauce, tangy not overpowering. With that came two sides, I had Mac & cheese, delicious and corn bread, amazing. My husband had the pulled platter, pork, chicken & brisket which he said were all tender and tasty. He choose potato salad, amazing and baked beans which he said were great. Everything is homemade and smoked right in the back yard. This was the authentic bbq I've been looking and it was worth the trip. The staff were very nice and friendly. We will be back next time I get a craving for ribs Millerton is a great town for cycling and this place is only a short drive from there. Try it, it's great read more

Quaint bbq place that serves stellar meats. We have had the ribs, brisket, pulled pork and smoked wings. All have been fantastic. In particular, the smoked wings have the be the best wings I have ever had and very fairly priced for the portion. Sauces and sides also all made in house. Great Mac and cheese, potato salad and baked beans. Collard greens already also done well. One of the best bbq places around the area hands down. Whenever I go south of the Mason-Dixon Line, I start looking for BBQ. I tell my friends that in my part of the north east, you can get almost any kind of food, on par with the rest of the world. Like French food? We got that. Chinese? Italian? Korean? Thai? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. But having had REAL BBQ in the Deep South, I realized that the stuff we have up north is a pale step child. It's not without trying. E.g., Blue Smoke in NYC is decent and getting better all the time. However, the best is still regionally confined to the Confederate States... So, having wasted your time complaining about the sad state of northern BBQ, I want to give a positive review of When Pigs Fly. I am a regular at Lime Rock and have tried just about every eatery in the vicinity. Some are good, some are very good. This little shop falls into the very good category. I always get the brisket. I'm not much of a ribs fan - too much work for too little food. But brisket... Thems good eats! They do a good job with beef here and the sauce has the right tang to complete the deal. Good beans, cole slaw and corn bread complete a meal for me. No tables inside - gotta eat in the patio or do take out. I think they are also cash only... Oh, yeah, parking is off in the back. Odd... Also, one last comment. The reviewer who complained about the shop being closed. In the south, when a restaurant runs out of food, they close. I know because I've been disappointed several times, having missed "lunch" in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Texas. It happens. For northern Conn, this is good BBQ. Is it southern BBQ? No, but pretty darn good. Give it a try. read more

Friendly staff, classic woodsy atmosphere. Ribs were good, but not amazing. Generous sides.

The food was great, service exceptional. Try the baked beans. A perfect mix of sweet and spicy!

Great little take out or sit in barbecue place in a really cute Connecticut New England town. Nice people behind the counter and the rack of ribs I got was humongous, love it! This is THE best BBQ around! Everyone from Chicago to NYC CT and LI Agree. Photos below of a perfect meal. And I asked for my sauce on the side. The meat was perfectly tender and moist. Just ok. I was disappointed that the ribs were so dry and the sauce was sparse. Maybe because it was the end of the night and the ribs were preheated? The greens were fresh and potato salad was good. How lucky that my tummy started growling just as we entered Sharon during our drive from the Berkshires to NYC. I am a BBQ aficionado. I just can't live without it. On the walk in from the parking lot I saw the smoker outside and specifically asked what was cooking today, they said chicken wings (that was it!!)....but they heated up some ribs, some brisket and I ordered some shrimp and grits for good measure. The brisket was dry, old and over sauced - not very good. The ribs (also "reheated") were so awful that my 18 year old growing son, wouldn't eat more than three (not good). The shrimp and grits was the only edible thing I purchased. I make shrimp and grits myself, often, and they were not bad. I was told about the sides from several people and I have no idea what they were talking about - the beans were overcooked and over sweetened, the corn bread was edible and the other two sides I got were so unremarkable that I can't even recall what the heck they were. To sum it all up I would not bother going here again. The food was overpriced and not very good. If I want BBQ I will just buy a ticket to Austin, TX and head on over to Black's. If you know GOOD BBQ, this is not the place for you. read more

Ok. So another slightly off the beaten path type of place. This is a barbecue place that is dominated by a food prep area and very homey seating area. My wife and I were greeted by who I think is the owner who was very friendly. Even the other customers are friendly with one recommending the brisket over the pulled pork sandwich. So we ordered that and the special of the day - jambalaya. The brisket was well spiced with a sweet bbq sauce. We had a side of the baked beans which was one of the better dish of beans that I have had. The jambalaya was ok, as it was a little watery in taste. However the sausage was excellent with some bay shrimp in there to complete the dish. So the customer did know what he was talking about. So another place for a repeat visit if I am back this way. I recommend you try this place too if you are just looking for a simple bbq place with no fancy music, seating, or anything else. Just good food and friendly service. read more

Phenomenal BBQ that stands above the rest. Pleasantly smoky without being cloying. Wonderful family owned small business that is sending out food that clearly is prepared with love. We came across this place when we were staying at a nearby AirBnB and all things considered I liked it quite a bit. I am from the south and know good BBQ and these are my thoughts: I tried a lot of stuff off the menu for take- out over the course of 3 days (there are like 2 food options in this area lol). The pulled pork is definitely the meat you want to go for here as it is the tastiest, followed by the chicken and then the brisket is last. All three were a tad dry, but because pork is a more fatty meat naturally, it held up better. The flavor profile was spot on IMO, it just needs to be pulled out a bit sooner or cooked at a lower temp to keep it moist. The BBQ sauces were good, both the original and the carolina vinegar sauce. I wanted to try the peach also, but they accidentally gave me another of the original so I didn't get to try it. They do charge for extra BBQ sauce, but it's affordable (50¢ I think) and the serving is generous. Sides were really tasty. The beans and the corn pudding were delish. And the shrimp and creamy grits. Whoa. Totally amazing. These were honestly the BEST grits I have had in my entire life. I literally went back the next day and ordered just grits with out the shrimp so I could savor them alone. They had no issue giving just the grits as a side even though they are not listed on the menu except in combo with the shrimp. Desserts were tasty as well. We had the peach-blueberry bread pudding and I believe apple pie. I think they cook these in the smoker though, and that left them with a distinct smoky after taste which I did not like. They would be perfect if cooked in the oven though. The gentleman who took the orders was super friendly and very helpful. A+ for service. Overall I give it 3.8. This is a lot for me as I'm very critical of BBQ and am never impressed with BBQ in new england. If they can get the meat a bit more moist and cook the desserts in the oven, this will be 5 stars. And those grits, I'll be back for those next time for sure. read more
