This is my favorite donut shop. Coming from a donut connoisseur, these donuts are AMAZING. Amazing amazing. My favorites are the original Old Fashioned, Buttermilk Bar, Bavarian Cream, and the French Cruller. The Old Fashioned and Buttermilk Bar have perfect sweetness and a semi-crunchy yet soft inside texture, mind blowingly good. The Bavarian Cream has an excellent custard inside and a great chocolate glaze. And the French Cruller, oh my. The flavor and texture. Gooey inside. Just outrageous. Go and get their donuts. Get many to bring home. This place truly knocks it out of the park. read more

Was on the way here from Skokie and I called to confirm if they had buttermilk donuts, the lady said they were closing in 6 min at 1:30pm when on yelp it says they closed at 4pm. Wasted my time driving as I wouldn't have made it by 1:30. Please update yelp profile with correct hours. read more

We picked up an assortment of a dozen donuts and were expecting great things based on reviews. They were nothing special. Sort of stale, too much dough, not fresh-tasting. I like Wheeling Donuts. It's the kind of shop that I would go to often. I used to live in Wheeling a long time ago. They have a nice variety of donuts and the prices are inexpensive. I like the taste of their donuts. I find them better than the chains like Dunkin Donuts and some fancy places. For some that may not say much but for me it matters as I get sick of Dunkin, especially when I see them at my work frequently. Wheeling Donuts is a local business that does a good job of offering what they do along with good service. They donuts are made fresh so best get'em in the morning. Places like Wheeling Donuts are not a fad followers. I agree with Darci S.'s comments about it being a classic donut shop with all the basics. This is our favorite donut shop in the suburbs. We will go out of our way just to pick up their chocolate donuts holes. The sweet owner remembers my order every time we stop in and will take the time to make conversation. Try their chocolate cake donut, curler, blueberry, and red velvet! Plenty of seating and parking. My quest for the best donuts in the 'burbs continued with a trip to Wheeling Donuts. First, the shop is located next to a laundromat in a small strip mall off Dundee Road near the train station. The inside of the shop looks like a dive and there isn't a lot of decor on the walls. But then again, that's not what you will be coming here for anyway. The donuts are located in a long case at the front of the store and they offer mostly traditional cake and yeast flavors. I didn't see any unique flavors like maple bacon in the case. I ordered a half dozen, which ended up being a little over $5 with tax. We ordered the red velvet, blueberry cake, buttermilk old fashioned, chocolate long john, chocolate cake and apple fritter. I gave away the chocolate cake and apple fritter so I cannot comment on the taste of those donuts. The chocolate long john pretty good. I loved the light and airy texture that it had due to the raised yeast. I could have eaten a few of those before feeling them in my belly. The chocolate is OK and would be better if were dark as opposed to milk. I loved the red velvet donut and was definitely my favorite one that I tried. The cake was dense and the donut was hearty. You could definitely taste the cocoa in the cake. The blueberry cake had the same texture of the red velvet cake. It had a lot of blueberries in it and it still tasted good a few days later. I wasn't a fan of the buttermilk old fashioned at all. I didn't really enjoy the glaze or the texture of the cake. My boyfriend seemed to enjoy it though. The woman working behind the counter was nice, but not overly friendly. She was soft-spoken so it was somewhat hard to hear her. Bottom line, I definitely would come back here and I would love to try the fritter. The red velvet tasted amazing and I definitely would come back for that. read more

This place is home to a new favorite that makes the list of one of the best things I've ever eaten - APPLE FRITTER (such a fantastic sugary-crunch, so flavorful, so heavenly...omigoodness. it. is. so. good.) Their old fashioneds are killer too - as other yelpers noted: the donuts here are so 'fresh' tasting. The buttermilks (both the chocolate and the original) rock my socks off. I have to confess that I have no idea where Wheeling is, but a coworker brought in two boxes of assorted doughnuts from this establishment today, and they all looked fantastic. I limited myself to just one of my favorite kind, though--the apple fritter. It was kind of a middling version; it contained very little apples or cinnamon and was a bit dry. But a mediocre apple fritter is still a good start to the day. Truth be told, I had a quarter of a chocolate cake doughnut later in the day. That one was pretty good. read more

Wow, donuts are amazing! Premium quality and unbelievable prices. My favorite is the old fashioned doughnuts and this is comparable to Joe's Donut , Stan's, do-Rite, and the Vault. I could not believe how good they were and how similar it was to my other favorite donut shops. Crispy outside texture and nice dense center (not to cakey). Sweetness was well balanced. Got a dozen today for about $13. For the same donuts, they would be doubled elsewhere. I am so happy that such a wonderful, affordable premium donut is around the corner from me. If Wheeling donuts is struggling to stay in business, they might try to actually have donuts on hand. Very limited selection- not good to see a bunch of empty wire racks when the customer walks in. Take the faded posters down. When you paint the walls try to stay eithin the lines so half the trim doesn't have paint on it. To me, the way the place looks in general has a lot to do with the care of the overall business. The only shop I used to make an effort to go to was Spunky Dunkers in Arlington Heights. They had VARIETY. Their donuts were made fresh onsite. You walked into the place and you wanted to buy something. Nice fresh donuts! Nice and fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness. Tried the glazed, Boston cream filled, cinnamon roll & Apple fritter and they were very tasty! The Boston cream filling was very smooth and didn't leave that weird after taste some can have. The chocolate topping was just sweet enough. Can't wait to try some of the other flavors! Past this place for years, finally stopped in about 4 months ago. WOW! Best donuts! Buttermilk glazed is always crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Same with old fashion. French Cruller melts in your mouth. Long John rock too. I can on and on Go there, you don't know what you been missing if you like donuts. All the workers are as nice as can be too! I got 4 donuts and 1 apple fritter, and the lady at the counter acted like she was doing me a favor by charging me for a half dozen donuts. It was one of those situations where I just walked in, and the lady was staring at me, so I started picking the donuts I wanted, without looking at the menu. After I paid, the lady walked off into the back and I took a look at the menu.... donuts are $0.86 each and the apple fritter is $1.39. A half dozen donuts is $4.99. My 4 donuts and 1 fritter comes out to $4.86. I was ripped off by $0.13! Of course this is a small amount of change, but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't recommend the apple fritter, it was very large but flat, and more like a fritter cookie thing, very few apples inside. The donuts on the other hand, were pretty good, cheaper and larger than Dunkin. Got red velvet, blueberry, buttermilk, and old fashion. The buttermilk was out of this world good, it was super rich and creamy tasting. Red velvet was OK, not phenomenal but not bad. Old fashion was good too, crispy outside with the right amount of glaze, and soft interior. Blueberry was not very good, had a fake blueberry taste, and then very chewy and weird a day later (we had leftovers). Credit cards accepted but $0.50 charge if under $10. read more

I've never personally been in here. But I have this co-worker who's really nice in a kind of evil way. You see, he likes to pick up a dozen donuts every so often to feed our little cubicle area. And these are not your ordinary Dunkin-type donuts. So how can I possibly resist a RED VELVET glazed donut? Well, I can't. The best I can do is cut it into quarters, eat one piece and try to stay away. They are dense, super-moist, just the right amount of sweet. Tried them after being a Wheeling resident for 20+ years and seeing them advertise Mauisadas on Facebook. First 2 times they said they were closed even though google said they were open. Next time I came to try the Mauisadas and they said they only offer them on weekends. Disappointing to hear but I bought a couple donuts and left. They were out of a few staples but I still managed to find a couple that looked OK. Came on a weekend and they said that they just didn't make any mini donuts that weekend. Fourth time I came to try a product they advertised. At this point forget it. Way cheaper to go to Dunkin Donuts anyway and Spunky Dunkers has a much wider selection too. Pass. read more
