I went to Morkes Chocolates to redeem a free donut and coffee for my birthday. This was my first time in the store. When you first walk in, you may be overwhelmed with choices. They have chocolates, confections, and bakery items as far as the eye can see. I got my free donut and coffee but also picked up some huge muffins to have the next morning. The donut was light and fluffy and the muffins were packed full of flavor. There is a room in the back for evets and parties. When I was there, a birthday party was being held in the back room. I've learned of this place from my realtor, of all people. When she brought a box of donuts from Morkes, we knew the place had to have solid mission and pride for their products. My wife and I had always wanted to visit them ever since then and we finally did after about 10 months. The place was small and charming with lots of neeat chocolate creations, as one would expect. We sampled a couple different chocolate pieces and as far as I can tell, they were good. I say that only because I'm not a huge chocolate person, and I don't have a huge gauge on what's good vs great. Since our main purpose of the visit was for donuts, we went ahead and orderes half dozen "premium" donuts. Turns out, the box that was gifted to us was a custom mix of their premium selections, which are fancier donut creations that require a bit more finesse and efforts for them to create. Apparently, you need to order ahead if you want to have a good mix of a dozen, which we didn't know. So we ended up picking from the available ones. They were still a good variety. I don't actively seek out donuts, but if I craved one, I'd definitely seek out Morkes. read more

Found this gem while visiting my parents in the northwest suburbs. I was looking for a donut and didn't expect to find one so tasty. The chocolate (fudge) frosting on the donuts is delicious. Both cake and yeast donuts are great choices. The Bavarian cream is a welcome treat and there is a rotating donut flavor of the week. It's actually a chocolate shop and the chocolate didn't disappoint. There is a wide variety and both the fillings and chocolates themselves are creamy and flavorful. I've gone back multiple times. We didn't want the item shipped, so we called the store to confirm it was in stock. After being told it was available, we drove there the next morning and arrived right at the 7 a.m. opening. Unfortunately, the information we were given was incorrect, the item was not in stock. The salesperson told us we could either order it for shipping, which we were trying to avoid, or that the person on the phone should have advised us to reserve one. She wasn't able to offer any other solutions. We asked to speak with a manager, who offered to have the item made and gave us coffee while we waited. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for the item after an hour-long drive. While the manager did her best to assist us, both sales associates appeared poorly trained, one provided incorrect information, and the other was unable to problem-solve. read more

Literally the BEST donuts I have EVER had in my LIFE! They taste like none other but in an EXCELLENT way!

You'd hardly expect to find an old-timey neighborhood confectionery along this nondescript stretch of Rand Rd., but Morkes (appropriately pronounced "more-kiss") is a delightful Willie Wonka-ish kind of place. The retail store overflows with not only chocolates but also donuts, muffins and dipped apples. There are multiple gift items and a large selection of sugar-free chocolates. A few days before Valentine's Day, they were making chocolate-dipped strawberries and heart-shaped chocolates. All of this is deliciously decadent. And, that's only half the fun. The other half takes place in the back room, which is set up for private parties, special events, and chocolate-making parties. I have twice attended the latter. For $18 per person, you don an apron, roll up your sleeves, and spend up to 1 1/2 hours decorating a chocolate "pizza," making molded chocolate pieces, and dipping pretzels (btw, sugar-free chocolate is available for participants, but you should request this in advance). Best of all, you box up and take home your creations, including any leftover chocolate! read more

We did the touch, taste, temper & take away party. It was very reasonably priced at $20 per person but you need to get 10 people to do it with you to get that rate or pay for the additional spots. It's nice because it's a private party and you can decide the date and time. It would be nice if they also had public classes people could sign up for. They could do it through third party sites such as dabble or eventbrite. As it's hard to get 10 people to commit to a date. Or if they created a newsletter and advertised this to subscribers. The class had us Temper two types of chocolates. We dipped almonds, marshmallows, and strawberries. We also had plenty of dip to bring home to use again later. It was a lot harder than I thought to do a perfectly hand dipped Marshmallow but it was delicious! The instructor was very nice and taught us a lot of interesting things! read more

I opened the box and it was very sticky. The candy inside was wet and had holes in some of them. Very sticky too. All of them. I was afraid to eat any because they looked tampered with. No reason to give this review anything less than 5 stars. I liked this small store alot. The aromas are incredible. Sweet donut smells mixed with all of those chocolate smells. I'm hoping my heaven smells just like this. I was impressed with the variety of gift chocolates. Happy Birthday, Happy Graduation, Happy Anniversary, etc. If I wanted to bring a little something to a friend, I would stop in here and pick something up. They have chocolate covered Cracker Jacks, lots of different non pariels and too many other chocolates to name. Tip: We bought 2 packages of their 'Fresh Yesterday Donuts'. I've been going here for a very very long time and had not one thing negative to say about them .... Till this one time ... their chocolate is delicious, the sugar free is great, and their donuts, can't say enough wonderful things about them ! I usually get a cake pop when I leave, this time was no different. I got in the car , opened up my cake pop goodness, started to drive away, and took my first bite... it smelled kinda funny so I waited till I got to a red light and looked closer... THERE WAS MOLD!!!! I was so grossed out , I ate a piece of it already !!! I went back , there were only two younger girls working, one was the manager , but neither were as grossed out as I was or over apologetic or embarrassed?!? They said to take a new one!! I did , took chocolate this time . Before I drove away I checked it out first, MOLD! Come ON?!? Went right back in and inspected the others and there was literally mold growing on the outside of a few of them. I demanded my money back and told them, maybe ya should take these off the counter??? Again , an "I'm sorry " but if that were me , I'd offer something else to the customer for having to come back twice . I would have definitely been grossed out and threw them away the second I was told the first time about the mold . She did tell me , we forget when they were made !! WHAT? I can't w that ! I started to feel sick on my way home so either it was my head telling myself ew you are mold when hopefully mold wasn't in my bite OR ... yeah I ate mold! I was preparing an Anniversary dinner yesterday and was planning on Chocolate covered strawberries as part of the menu. Low and behold, I could not find any at any store (I just needed a few). We had my four year old's party at Morke's and it was just fabulous. The activities were perfect, and Christina was good with the kids and generous with ingredients - no skimping on chocolate or toppings! The pizza they ordered for us (on request) from next door was good, right on time, hot, and reasonable. The party room was pretty basic but had a fab throne that the kids loved and accommodated the guests and activities well. Morke's donuts are the stuff dreams are made of! Morkes has such a wide selection of treats that you will be bound to find something for yourself or a nice gift for a family member or friend. In addition to their extensive array of chocolates, they also have some lovely tasting donuts and offer coffee drinks. We were warmly greeted when we entered the store and the person at the counter was very helpful at steering us towards items that we would enjoy, as well as items that would be good gifts for people. They have such cute molds for chocolate and had a chocolate cell phone that would be perfect for a friend. I also took home some soft, coconut covered marshmallows and chocolate covered vanilla raspberry marshmallows, as well as a few gift boxes of assorted sugar free chocolates and a variety of truffles. For ourselves we took advantage of their discounted selections. They had a deal going on where if you buy 3/4 lb. of their surplus chocolates, you could get another bag for free. Great deal! We also picked up some day-old donuts, which were still soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. I appreciated the free samples the person at the counter gave so we could see for ourselves the high quality their product is. She was very friendly and pleasant. Went in to get taffy apples. Wanted one case that is about $58 but you get a $5 discount if you buy the case. I asked if I could get a few small bags I was told that if I wanted some bags I would not get the discount. I was never asked how many bags I wanted. To be realistic I only wanted 3 bags. The sakes person asked either the manager or owner. She came back with I would not get the $5 discount if she gave me bags. Guess bison must be so good that they would loose a $50 sale for 3 bags that probably cost 15 cents. I will not shop there again. I pride myself of being a loyal customer in the past. read more

I went to Marks chocolates on October 31 Halloween. I picked up a half dozen pumpkin donuts they were so greasy that half of them had to be thrown out and then had a piece of chocolate. It was free because I was a new customer. It was very old. I then had a cookie that was a pumpkin fudge type of cookie. It had a flavor like chemicals. We couldn't even eat it. Please do not visit this place I went there and was waited on by a person that was rude. This is the first and last time I will ever be at this place if you want good food, good treats go somewhere else this is not worth your time I'm not even giving it one star.
