They were so kind and let us know what was popular and the deals they had going on for the strawberry festival. I'm obsessed with this cute little shop! I love love loooooove it because they have all types of old school candy! I have been visiting this shop annually since I was like 2 years old, and even now I need to visit anytime I visit Long Grove, which is usually during the fests. I remember this place having much more candy before than it does now, but maybe it was just my young mind thinking I was at Candy Mountain. They have buckets of different types of candy here, and little white bags you can fill yourself. The price is $4 for half a pound, which isnt bad because you can mix and match anything you want. They also sell candy with different prices because they aren't meant to be put in the bag. Some candies they sell include Toxic Waste (similar to Warheads), Air Heads, mini Reese's cups, taffy, Tootsie Rolls, Atomic Balls, Jawbreakers, bubblegum, Dum Dums, and Now and Later. I signed up and paid for 3 tickets to a chocolate making class to be held on December 15 at $32 a piece! Paid on December 1st. Show up on The 15th to a dark building... no one is there. I call the number on my receipt, no answer, I email... I get a response about an hour later! "We are so sorry, the class was canceled due to not enough sign-ups, we thought we emailed everyone who signed up." Not only did they not email me to inform me, and me and 2 of my friends left work early and drove way out of our way for nothing, but they had not even refunded me! Why wouldn't they refund as soon as the class is canceled! They wait to see if you complain about it?? If there wasn't enough people to have the class and I was 3 of the sold tickets, how many people did they actually email to cancel. Ruined our Friday night and now I have to hopefully wait for a $96 refund! read more

Cute little candy store located in Long Grove. It's got a very nice old fashioned charm to it, offering candy styles that many have not seen in a while (and for people like me, have never seen at all). Many of these are items are quite a bit softer and softer than we're used to for candy now, and made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. Prices are a bit on the high side, but that's too be expected for a candy selection that's a bit harder to find. Presentation is really colorful and the decor really fits the look and feel of the town. Definitely worth a visit if you're visiting Long Grove and looking for something sweet. read more

The store is jam-packed with sugary goodies: candy buttons, giant lollipops, bubble gum, chocolates, gummies, and so much more. Dozens of buckets of every kind of individually wrapped candy that you can think of line the aisles. You can pick a bag and just put as much as you want in there from the buckets -- the candies are priced by weight. Jars of other candies (gummies, candy corn, etc.) are near the front counter for them to scoop out for you (also priced by weight). A chocolate counter greets you near the checkout line. All the other candies are arranged in colorful displays throughout the store. Willy Wonka would have fun here. I. WANTED. EVERYTHING. I have been coming here as long as I can remember. I used to ride my bike to buy some candy from Ma and Pa. Since I was on an allowance budget, I often settled on the mystery bags that were super cheap, but you had to take a risk and buy the brown paper bag not knowing what would be in it! Adorable store filled wall-to-wall with candy. I LOVE this store. So many types of candy - old school candy, new brands, fresh delicious chocolate confections displayed beautifully at the front of the store in a cute display case. A TON of gummies of different shapes, flavors. I found candy I never even knew existed, like strawberry bulls-eyes and strawberry cowtails. I walked out of there with a big bag full of mixed candy, chocolates, chocolate covered strawberries all for about $35. Such a bargain! This place is certainly a nostalgic little candy shop, but unfortunately it came off just sort-of depressing. Like everyone else says about downtown Long Grove... When I was a kid, this place was in it's glory days. Today the little downtown area is just sad - you can't tell what's open or not. We ventured out on a cold weekend day to find the town and this little shop empty. We went in and were greeted by a very nice woman that gave the kids each a balloon. It's a tiny shop with a nice variety of candy, but in competition with today's "nostalgic" candy shops, it's missing the fun. We made a couple laps inside, filled up a bag and got out of there. It was a decent way to kill a few minutes with the kids, but I can't imagine going back there. read more

Well-intentioned as I am, I never write reviews. Service is rarely memorable enough these days, it seems, to inspire taking time out to do so. And then came Ma & Pa's Candy - as I write this from the parking lot (!that's how amazing it is!), I can't find the rights words to properly convey the experience. As soon as you push the door ajar, it hits you, as if crossing the threshold transports you to a confectionary of the past, complete with full-sensory nostalgia, most notably sight and smell (if you can, make sure you don't have a stuffy nose when you visit ). This nostalgic trip down candy memory lane wouldn't be so notable though if it didn't also come with what used to be a more ubiquitous golden - nay, platinum, or whatever's highest these days - standard of customer service, or should I say customer delight. With less than 30 minutes to close, me on my 15th+ call around suburban Chicago on a seemingly hopeless mission to find fresh cotton candy, Terri answers the phone. Happy, kind, helpful, and willing to go above and beyond to help make our almost-13 year old's birthday surprise come to fruition. Terri, with only genuine compassion and desire to help in her voice, said she'd drop everything and get going immediately while I rushed out; making several flavors and batches of cotton candy, whatever she could get done in time. Knowing that there are still such wonderful people running such truly magical businesses out there that are willing to go that extra mile in extenuating circumstances, means the absolute world. Come visit and you too may find yourself not wanting to wait another minute and write your rave review from your car, too! Wherever you are, this is more than worth the drive. We hired Ma & Pa's Candy to set up a sweets table at our wedding and it was an absolute hit! We picked out our favorite candy and they put it into serving jars and chocolate onto trays for our guests at the wedding. Everything was set up so beautifully by the owners on the day of the wedding; we didn't need to do anything. Long Grove is dying. My mom told me to write that. It was a gorgeous fall weekend afternoon, where were all the shoppers? Was that a tumbleweed? This isn't how I remember downtown Long Grove. But my memories of 1989 are questionable anyway. When I was a kid, my parents and I would take trips to Long Grove to peruse the shops for the day. One of our favorites spots was Ma & Pa's Candy. So when we were in the area recently, I could not contain my excitement to see that we were only three miles away. Candy! Let's go! I should also mention I was also having some minor jaw pain, but the thought of a bathtub full of saltwater taffy was SO worth it. Ma & Pa's is a tiny little shop. Isn't it funny how things in our memories are often larger than they really are? Even though it was busy and cramped with shoppers, we couldn't wait to fill our paper sacks with the several varieties of Bulls-eye candies. We looked around quizzically. Obviously inventory can change drastically in 20 years, but we dumbly hadn't thought of this. We were crestfallen upon looking at the lone barrel of Bulls-eye candies, sold only in two flavors: regular (caramel) and chocolate. They used to have these in cherry, strawberry, licorice, and many other flavors. We plunked a few into our bags anyway. We then found a small selection of caramels in flavors like raspberry and candy apple, which lifted our spirits. They were the softest caramels I've ever eaten. I also purchased some saltwater taffy in a variety of flavors and some chocolate covered sponge candy. My mom took home a half pound of chocolate covered cashews for my dad, which I'm sure he loved. There's something for everybody here, and you won't leave disappointed. Even if it was a totally different place in your memory. read more

Visiting Long Grove as a kid, many years ago, I remember this little candy shop being my favorite part of a long day walking from store to store. We happened to find ourselves in the area again this weekend, for the first time in over 20 years, and had lunch at the Tavern. Ma and Pa's candy shop is essentially right next to the Tavern, and I thought my son would like to stop in and have a look at all the different kinds of candies here. And as expected, he liked it a lot. They still have a widely diverse selection of bulk candies, gummies and salt water taffy (still inside the same claw-foot bathtub) and various chocolates and packaged products. I remember the store being larger when I was a kid, but felt very nostalgic visiting again and seeing all the glass candy jars filled with brightly colored gummies and chocolate-covered nuts, etc. The woman working here was very friendly as we walked in, and helpful with our questions and helpful picking out all kinds of things. Like the rest of downtown Long Grove, it's sad to see the "for sale" sign in the store's front window, and a lot of the other storefronts and neighboring shops are closed down (the Peppermint Stick ice cream parlor is also gone). There were a lot of people shopping here when we visited on a late Sunday afternoon. Recommended if you're in the area, especially if you're visiting with little ones! read more

I love the shop layout, it's very cute and has a great variety of candy to pick from!However, the person working the counter when I went in didn't seem too enthused about their job, much less interacting with customers. My attempts to find out more about the candy I wasn't familiar with was met with a reaction you could only interpret as, "Are you stupid?" so I didn't really feel welcome. Besides the attitude problem, I enjoyed my visit to this shop and will gladly come again-but maybe just keep quiet, buy my candy and get out. read more

Have been to the store 3 times in 2 weeks. First time--woman was great with 2 young children as they selected what they wanted. The next 2 times--new woman who was rude to the point that I would have left if I'd been alone. Said we had to buy 1/4 pound of one kind of candy (all the candy in canisters is the same price) but she would not let the kids get a few pieces of several kinds of candy. IS SHE TRYING TO CLOSE THE STORE? We were not the only ones--another customer asked for 3 kinds of candy, ended up with 1/4 pound of each which was more than her child could eat--it's a mess in there. Time travel while you are here at this little candy shop, where you can still fill a bag full of the candies you want.(and it's not just Brach's!!!) I love how you can still peruse through barrels or glass jars of candy and that there are older candies that you can't really find anywhere else; bit o honey, banana split, slo pokes, and what seemed like half a dozen kind of caramels.
