Service and quality: I purchased bulk candy (bullseyes and Mary Jane's). Some were hard and stale. I went in for a return and the employee was not able to do the transaction without the owner. She then went on to tell me "not to lie" about the candy. WTF? read more

Below average candy shop with a limited selection of items. It is fun looking inside and has charm, but the selection is lacking. The chocolate counter is about 4 feet wide with 10-15 items. Other than that, there's mostly hard candy and commercially branded stuff (pennywise the clown, the office, mister rogers, etc.) I didn't purchase anything but enjoyed taking a look around. Around the Corner Candy has moved into a brand new building! Right next to a hair salon the building was just built this year. My husband needed some wax lips for a costume and I had no idea where to find some on short notice. Came here and of course they had them. Got a homemade Carmel Granny Smith Apple on the way out! Note the 5-star reviews are from years ago. The ownership must have changed hands recently because my experience was entirely different. I've stopped in this shop a couple of times in the past few months because I love their bulk chocolates. Seems like the chocolate supplier is the same as in the past because their chocolate-covered ANYTHING is fantastic & fairly priced. However, many of the bins, boxes, containers, shelves, etc of the other candies were completely empty. Several display racks were completely empty. I actually asked the young female employee if they were going out of business. I got an apathetic and irritated "no" for an answer. The place lacked the charm (and inventory) it once seemed to have. Grew up with this place. Living in Nevada now, I thought my candy days were over. Little did I know, the website has a full list of all the candies, chocolates and treats, and get this...they'll ship it to you! I have been coming here since my kids were infants. This store is a step back in time to the days of penny candy and soda fountains and it is a wonderful little slice of the past right off Main Street USA. Prices are way less than the gas station or convenience store but the experience is a priceless step back in time. Retro candy galore and very kind and friendly service mixed with odds and ends and specialty items. This is the new location which is really nice, however i understand they may be moving again which is kind of a bummer. The old location was a little cramped but very cozy. The candy here is excellent and we normally come here to get some of the homemade candy for things like stocking stuffers, Easter baskets, co workers birthdays, etc. They have a great selection and often i find nostalgic candies from when i was a kid, and so it is fun to have my kid try them. If you are in the area it is well worth stopping in. You can park in the lot behind the old location off of 2nd and its a short walk from there (everything in downtown West Dundee is a short walk). read more
