Recently walking down Milwaukee Ave after dinner, we came across this place--we had to stop by during business hours. I called a few days later and talked to Nathan...what a wonderful young guy! When we went in to the cozy shop, to see he and his coworkers, for gifts, they were so helpful. Buying a pre-boxed selection was one option or picking out some truffles, peanut butter "buckets, and other beautiful chocolates. The recipient absolutely loved them, thoroughly enjoying the toffee, the peanut butter confections, and the truffles---the dark chocolate lemon and the red velvet with white chocolate were the big winners! Seriously, think about giving confections and chocolates for the holidays, from this place! It has the small-town feel to it with the help, the location and the selection. Check them out for corporate gifts or personal gifts...they wrap beautifully! See them sooner than later, the holidays will be here before you know it!

I went with my kids because they really wanted to eat at Lauretta's. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing, and while I was parking my vehicle, one of the employees closed the door right in front of us. They also appeared to be making fun of the situation. I understand that employees may be ready to close, but there is a professional and respectful way to treat customers, especially when they are there with their children. The food may be good, but the customer service was terrible. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this place.

They also make custom cakes and other baked items. A cool day called for a coffee. If hanging out in this lakeside town, it's better to go here than some chain coffee place. The prices aren't that bad for an independent business like this. Inside there's a couple tables and a couch. Space is limited but charm isn't. I got a Cinnamon Sugar Latte, which was one of the seasonal coffees. It's $6 for a regular. This had plenty of spice and sweetness along with some vanilla. Best place in town to get coffee. I called and was told all sales were final by someone that was not a manager. She told me to come back when a manager was there. When I went to the shop and showed her the receipt and the quantity I purchased (for a wedding) she totally understood that it looks bad to give something past the freshness date even though it probably tasted fine. She replaced all the candy that was past due. On top of that the Corporate office sent me gift cards to refund the past due candy. I will not use them since I have been made whole by the store replacing the expired candy. Very happy with the ending.

Who doesn't love Fannie May?…read more Fannie May stores have been a staple in the Chicagoland area since I was a youngster. I use to love going in and getting a few pieces of fresh chocolate when we visited. My sister was home for a visit so we stopped in so she could stock up before heading home and that she did...lol. We shopped the Lake Forest, IL store and the employee was very nice knowledgeable and the store was clean and everything was nicely displayed. Even provided a sample of the fresh chocolate. Our check out was less than favorable this time. Upon returning for a second time the transaction was pleasant and the visit was very nice. The employee offered me a sample of the Fannie May Mint Melt Away which I love. Upon speaking with the employee she told me that this store was relatively new which I was not aware. If you haven't, and you love chocolate, do stop in for the Mint Melt Aways or Pixies or a Trinidad and see what else is on display for purchasing for you and your family or friends.
