Welllll, chocolate is not my favorite sweet treat, but here it's pretty darn good. I love the caramel and chocolate dipped pretzels with nuts, and their caramels are the best anywhere. It's pricey yes but all worth it and fresh. I remember finding this place years ago and since been living everywhere for years and unfortunately for my waistline, it is way too accessible to me now. Chocolate. Donuts. Gifts. It is a happy place! We entered on a cold day walking the streets of Richmond, IL. We took in all their gift offerings like Christmas ornaments, household supplies and... chocolate! Loads and loads of chocolate. The homemade bars are the best. I got a chocolate peanut butter crunch - it is sorta like a Clark bar or a Butterfinger. Those are for reference only because these Anderson bars are in a league of their own! Then, they tell me they have these homemade donuts. I get some - a 12 pack for the family. They are smaller two-biters so don't judge... they were fresh, warm and melted in the mouth type of donuts! I'm pretty darn obsessed with Anderson's because of their cherry cordials. While familiar with their small Barrington location, the Richmond location is THE BEST. It eclipses the other one in terms of space and variety. I love the ice cream here--something you don't get in Barrington--in addition to the hand-dipped chocolate bars. Their milk chocolate is the absolute best. Moreover, there is plenty to celebrate here since they just had their 100th anniversary! What a delightful shop! My family and I stopped in yesterday after touring some of Richmond's antique shops. I enjoyed a white chocolate-dipped pretzel rod and the rest enjoyed a variety of homemade hand-dipped chocolate bars. My husband's toffee bar was especially delicious! Cute shop in the heart of downtown Richmond, Anderson's sells milk or dark chocolate bars with something like 50 different ingredients to choose from, as well as bon-bon type chocolates and gifts. The best flavours in my opinion in the bars are the dark peanut butter crunch (kind of like a richer & more peanutty Butterfinger) the milk Raisin (tastes like a WAY better Raisinette) and the milk Peppermint. Omg!!!! You have to have this chocolate!! We drove all the way from North Aurora via Lake Geneva to get this Caramelized Sugar in Dark Chocolate......YES, it is as good as I had remembered it to be. The business is adorable and the gal behind the front counter took the time to explain the business and the packaging. We decided to purchase Christmas Gifts for our family members and spent like a third of what we had expected. They EVEN gift wrapped them for me at no charge. WHAT?!?! It was well worth the trip to Richmond to purchase although we found out that they have another store in Barrington and will ship anywhere. It was a nice trip in the country to get there. The store also has adorable little gifts, signs, candles and a bit of jewelry. Perfect hostess gift and baby theme and reveal gifts. We also found out that they have been open for 100 years!! There's only one time I actually enjoy the holiday season, when I get candy from Anderson's Candy Shop. It has actually become a little tradition...the whole getting it as a gift part. lol I recommend EVERYBODY getting their snappers. Oh em gee, my mouth is watering just thinking about the nugget inside a crunchy little chocolate AND caramel covered pecan snapper. I'm don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I bet I could eat a WHOLE box of those little f*#@&ers. I have to swear at them because they're dangerous and their whole purpose in life is to expand your waist line. So be careful because you too will fall for their sweetness only to be bitten back, no wonder they're called snappers. I've never been to the shop, but their products speak for themselves. After this afternoon, my blood sugar is high enough to last me the rest of my life. They know how to do chocolate right and put it together in a bunch of creative ways. My friend and I went nuts in the shop and just started buying a little of everything. We walked away with a chocolate/nut covered pretzel, orange peels, Lars bars, chocolate covered Oreos and a handful of other sweet treats. They also have a mini gift shop with jewelry, dishes, decorations and just about anything your heart desires. I got a bottle of habanero bbq sauce for my boyfriend. All of our goodies came to just under $30. And I highly recommend the chocolate covered strawberries, which were 2 for 1. It was the end of the day and they were trying to get rid of their current batch and gave me two more for free! read more

The first dark chocolate I ever tried was from Anderson's Candy Shop. Almost every time we went to see out grandparents, there was some waiting for us (and milk chocolate as well). Anderson's makes great American chocolate. It does not try to compete in decadence with all of the new chocolatiers, but they made great dark chocolate before it was cool and still do. If you are anywhere near Richmond (a cute town to visit, btw) they are worth a stop, or a slight detour. On the rich side of things, are their pudding bars, which are quite delectable, but I usually can eat only half a bar at a time. They're quite big. Most of their bars go for great taste, not richness overkill though. Their Molasses Chip and Mint Chip are the best IMO, and I also enjoy their toffee. The plain chocolate bars are also quite fine. I'm not a big fan of the pineapple. Can't wait for my next box! read more

Anderson's is a family owned local business in the heart of the quaint village of Richmond. They sell cute gift items and t-shirts with their logo....but the real attraction is the chocolate. The kids are big fans of the pudding and peanut butter bars but raspberry crunch is my favorite. The Baileys eggs at Easter time were fabulous too. I'm also a fan of their almond brittle and I'm fussy. Their chocolate makes for great gifts as well. They gift wrap. The owners are very involved in the community and are generous with their time and money. Run, don't walk! To this excellent candy store. Ok, so I started off our trip to Lake Geneva (as I do every trip) by looking to see what bakeries and chocolate stores were in the area. Because this is what is very important to my well-being and happiness. Well I found this place, which was outside of Lake Geneva and then we ended up only going to places within Lake Geneva that we could walk to. Well, imagine my surprise, when on our way home, we were driving right by this store. I thought we were going to crash as I screamed at my husband "That's the candy store!!!!!" Well, good or bad, he knows me well enough by now to know if I get that excited about something, it means STOP! I was still a bit surprised when he made emergency maneuvers to pull over. Well, I can say....SO. WORTH. IT. If it would have mean that he had to bring me this candy in the hospital, it would have been likely worth it. Thousands of dollars in medical bills, and I would have still enjoyed the chocolate from this place. The place is a good sized candy shop and they specialize in hand-dipped candy bars. Their assortment of their bars is so large, I cannot even begin to describe the varieties. Because Easter is so close, they also had hand-dipped cream filled eggs. Sooooo good. We ended up with a few dark and white chocolate Bunnies, a coconut filled center, a cherry cream filled egg, a Peanut Butter Crunch (similar to a Butterfinger), a Nougat (Similar to Charleston Chew), a Krispy Rice, a bag of Toffee and a Lars Bar. There wasn't a single thing that was bad, but my favorite was the Lars bar. It was a combination of milk chocolate, nougat, caramel and nuts. They have all sorts of types, caramel, nuts, cream, PB, coconut, rice, etc. With or without sugar. The store has plenty of other things (popcorn, fudge, sponge candy, pretzels) along with knick knacks. Staff was very friendly. Prices were not cheap, though, it is about $3.40 per candy bar and they aren't super big. I think we spent $50 for three people, but we did get a good assortment of candy so we could try lots of things. You MUST try the hand-dipped candy bars, you cannot go wrong! And in fact, my hubby still has some of his half left and I keep threatening to eat it soon if he keeps leaving it sit. Especially at $3.40 each!! read more

I am not a chocolate or sweets fan but I do know quality and this is quality chocolate. Unless they have moved recently this is in an older house and you can watch them make the chocolate and all the candies. I dont know if they still do but you used to be able to buy their stuff at the Lincolnshire Marriot theatre concession stand. I like all the turtle type candy and this is a very good turtle using pieces instead of the whole nut plus the nuts are alot crisper than other varieties. I have also gotten the variety box and there is not a bad piece in the box as long as I can smell out the mint ones, ugh. Excellent store. read more

The young woman who helped us was amazing! She gave us the history of the shop and was incredibly helpful. The hand dipped chocolates are scrumptious. The milk chocolate is creamy and sweet and the dark chocolate is tangy but not too bitter. Wonderful selection of treats available. I would highly recommend this establishment. read more
