I seriously tried to master spoking motorcycle wheels. I did about six wheels and got a lot better but noway safe. I took a wheel that I just could not get close to being safe after many tries to Chris. I had spoked it backwards and he undid my spoking job in a matter of minutes and got it right. Just met Chris last week after being referred to him from DNA Motorsport in Hayward. My 2005 Bonneville had 3 broken spokes on back rim and he has all the tools and knowledge to take care of me on the spot. He explained to me the nipples used on that model were weak, not the spokes, the Triumph nipples on a chrome rim. He had the much stronger more durable nipples on hand to fix the strength of the rim and true it with his experience. No doubt if I ever have rim issues or questions about my Triumph, or any other make or model he knows his shit! I went it to have a few rims repaired (2020 KTM 500 rear wheel, and two XR50 rear wheels, one he is customizing for me). Chris is the last of a dying breed. He's been in the racing game for just about his whole life and has a lot of great stories to share. He does great work work for a great price and gives you free history lessons along the way! Plan to stay and talk with him while he does the work if you can, it's WELL worth it! He turned both rims around in a couple hours and gave me a free lesson on the history of AMA, wheel technologies, making spokes, Isle of Man TT, and track history. Excellent work was performed by Chris. I've been having trouble with my Chrome so had to have it chromed twice. Chris's turn around time is exactly what I was looking for, offset spokes not most desirable thing to set. Chris set my axle and spokes perfect. Highly recommend. read more

Paid a lot for what I got in return. Had to pay another guy to do a complete wheel balance. Both places charged me 180. Wish I would have just gone to the 2nd guy in the 1stplace. Look around and see what you get for your $200 . Or spend double like my dumb ass. Not to mention the time and gas invested. read more

Chris is the best. I had a vintage wheel with a bunch of loose spokes. He gave me some tips on pre-treating the wheel before bringing it in, therefore reducing the amount of spokes needed to be replaced. Watching him work was amazing. Christ knows everything there is to know about tires and wheels (for all bikes), he has a super stash of goodies (ask to see), and his prices are terrific. I wrecked my Triumph a month ago and have been trying to get it back to safe running condition ever since. The front wheel was all out of whack and I prefer a stable bike on the freeway, so I looked on Yelp and found Wheel Works. I ended up calling after business hours and decided to get there the next day right when they opened up. When I got there, Chris took a look at my bike and told me he could probably true the wobble out of the wheel very quickly. When I returned with the bare wheel, he got it trued up in a matter of about 5 minutes. This guy is amazing! I ended up taking the bike on a 200 mile round trip up north and it rides better than it did before the accident. I even had plenty of money for gas because he doesn't charge much at all. This place would have been great just because of the quality of work, price, and turn-around time, but there is so much more. Mike is a walking encyclopedia of motorcycle knowledge. I talked to him for probably a total of an hour, trying to soak up as much info as possible. The shop is great as well... He is more than willing to show people around... A bunch of amazing old Triumphs, BSAs, Ducatis... You name it. He could easily put up a sign that says "Chris' Classic Motorcycle Museum" and charge for admission. Excellent workmanship, cheap pricing, cool bikes, good conversation, and someone who still truely takes pride in what they do. No reason to go anywhere else. On top of that, this is a local, veteran owned shop, so why wouldn't you give him your business? ***Note**** Chris doesn't take wheels off of bikes or tires off of wheels. He has some kind of a set up with Cycle Salvage, but you need to set it up in advance. I went to Mountain's Garage in San Leandro where they got the wheel and tire off AND hooked me up with a ride back to wheel works. Check out my review for them... Another outstanding shop! read more

Chris is awesome! He built me a custom set of wheels for my triumph bobber and now I just had him replace the rims and spokes on my front engine dragster wheels. If it's wire wheels- he is the Man! He has tons of British and Italian motorcycle parts. His insight was invaluable in building my bike, which is now a show winner. My mechanic suggested I get my rear wheel trued, as the spokes were all loose and he felt that his snugging them up wouldn't be enough. So I took the 6-year-old spoked rim over to Chris at Wheel Works (who suggested over the phone that I go to Cycle Salvage to have the tire removed and re-installed). Chris was a little late to our appointment. Considering I was a little late too, it all evened out. When I said the spokes made different sounds when plunked, he said they always make different sounds when plunked. lol After putting the rim on the truing stand, Chris pronounced the rim true but the spokes loose. I also mentioned that the rotor squeaked at one point as I turned the wheel in neutral, with the bike lifted. So he checked and said: Your rotor is slightly tweaked -- 1/20,000th of an inch! He clamped his high-tech tool -- a 15-inch Crescent wrench -- onto the rotor and straightened out the kink. He gave me a tour of his shop, or rather his storage of old motorcycle parts, including busted things like melted cranks and burst tower shafts and old, prized engines in need of scarce parts. Loved his Burt Munro stories. Enjoyed the histories he, and then a visiting friend of his, shared regarding motorcycles, moto racing, machining, the firebombing of Dresden, the reforestation of the Black Forest, and the aid station at Munich's Oktoberfest. read more

Chris laced up a Borrani WM0 for the front of my Kawasaki Triple dragbike. Here's an example of how knowledgeable he is: He told me that if I ran my triple without a front fender, I would have an even harder time keeping my center cylinder cool. This kind of advise demonstrated to me that he is much more than just a wire wheel expert. This guy knows bikes! read more

This guy is amazing. I had a wheel that was completely trashed. I couldn't find a replacement since it was a after market and nobody wouldn't fix it but wheel works. Showed up at the shop and he had it fixed better than new within a few hours at a great price. The shop is awesome. I felt like I was on American pickers! i don't know why this shop does not have more reviews. hmm. anyway, this is the place to call if you have any wheel truing needs, especially if it's a vintage bike. his shop is a gold mine of motorcycle wheels, forks and other rare goodies. very reasonable prices, very easy going owner, can't ask for better than that. read more

I brought some wheels in to this gentleman, he laced a wheel for me, inspected the old one and new one for me as well, this guy is great, his prices are reasonable, he is very friendly and you can tell he is a master of his craft.
