Was looking to get my belt changed out on my HD Sportster 1200. The bike is from 2008 and has the original factory belt on it. I was worried that since it was older that it might need to be changed and sitting on the side of the highway with a busted belt is not a good feeling. I called up and the gentleman who answered the phone was polite and understood what I was looking for. But he also gave me some pointers on what I needed to look out for in the belt in order to replace it. He did not try to rip me off, told me his shop rate and a rough estimate on how much it would cost to replace the belt. He also gave me some information on the factory HD hardware that came with my bike. To where he informed me that I do not need to replace it, unless certain conditions were met with the wear and tear. He told me how to inspect the belt and what to look for. I appreciate this candor in the repair business. There are so many places that would sight unseen replace the belt and charge someone. My bike tire popped on a Friday night ride, and all the shops in the area have already closed for the weekend except midnight mechanix. Called them at around 9pm, they told me they were out of stock for my bike by I could bring my own tire. They also didn't upcharge me for the tire, their quote is the same price as the retail price at the East Bay motorsports. Dropped off the bike on Saturday, picked it up on Monday. I needed electrical repairs done on an old R6. Whenever I would hit a bump while riding the signal fuse would blow, causing the cluster and lights to go out. While other shops failed to find the problem, John repaired the wiring in multiple places and cleaned up poor work done by another shop. I recently went here for a dire need of a back tire and I've talked to John (the proprietor) about having 3 plugs on my tire ( the kind of tire plugs you use on a flat car tire with rope and glue) which it isn't safe. John told me over the phone that it's never advisable to ride your motorcycle with plugs for it's only temporary fix enough for to go home. I told him that I'm scheduling an appointment and he asked me me the details on my rear tire ( brand make and size)to which I provided and he called his supplier on which he told me that it'll be in Thursday June 4th. I called him on a Tuesday June 2nd. I brought my bike Wednesday night and he told his supplier might come in later that day or Thursday morning to which I told him that I'll just leave my bike in his shop because I Live exactly a mile from his shop and told him to call me when it's done. The next morning which is Thursday 11:30 am, I got a call from John that my bike is ready to which I went and got my bike. I knew John when he first opened his shop back in 2011 and I believe I'm one of the very first yelpers who put a review on Yelp. I'm glad that his service NEVER WAINED because he STILL has the very best service he can provided. Come to think of it?...there's something to be said about shops that lasts for years on end because you know people support them because of great customer service and honesty and John has all of them! Take my Gixxer there for valve adjustment and the bike was running perfectly, the bike wasn't starting normally after they have done valve adjustment, and John said it is the battery, changed the battery and the same issue, and then again John said it was crankshaft sensor, the sensor fixed it but now it time to time still having trouble to start and engine is not as smooth as it used to be in idle. Also, it took one month, and I spent over $1500 on repairs and Uber to go back and forth. Avoid this place, so do not regret your decision like me; I wish I was taking it to the dealer. read more

I've had John work on my bike before he expanded his shop. He always took care of me and did exactly what I needed him to do. Never had any issues and problems. I've since then had took a break, but recently came back on 2 wheels. I had to get work done and went back. At no surprise, he has expanded his shop 3-4 times bigger than when I use to go. I just picked up my 07 ZX-6R from the shop last night and I must say that I am very happy with John's work. I originally had an appointment for 9:30pm, but I got off work early so I called to see if I could come in earlier. I was told that John (the owner) was out of the shop momentarily, but that I could drop the bike off and he would give me a call as soon he got back. I dropped off the bike around 4pm and headed home. I got a call around 6pm which was significantly earlier than I expected and they told me exactly what work needed to get done. They asked for my consent on all the repairs and they did not try to force any unnecessary repairs on me. They told me that the bike should be done around 9:30 or 10pm, but they were able to finish everything by 9pm. When I got to the shop, John was helping another rider. Once he finished with the other rider, he went over all the repairs/adjustments he performed on my bike. I was very happy that he was taking his time to ensure that everything was done right. I am so happy that I found Midnight Mechanix, my wife and I moved here from Sunnyvale and used to get our bikes serviced at RMC Moto and Evolution MS (great shops btw). I was worried that I would not be able to find a fair reputable motorcycle mechanic when we moved to the east bay but I did! John is the owner of this shop, he is very friendly and personable. He is a very knowledgeable moto mechanic, he taught me a few things about moto companies as well as tire brands. He was able to fully overhaul my 14 Yamaha Bolt. I'm talking valve adjustment, front/rear rotor and pad replacements, shock lift kit, suspension tuning, T Bar install (clean wire tucks/relocation), and electrical to make my lights work again. My bike with 50k miles runs like a champ all for an honest price, he even gave me a bit of a discount for being a new father (still was a bit over what I expected but i figured that these are desperate times with this virus going around and mom and pop shops are fighting to stay alive). I am currently waiting to get my tires swapped out and replaced with my new tires I brought and they said that it would be done today (which would probably take 1-3 days at Evolution MS). John and Alfonso are fast, knowledgeable, efficient, and honest moto mechanics. If you want that kind of care and service for your bikes then come here! And also to point out one more thing, these guys are open really late. Like resurant hours late which is amazing. nah. don't go there. my experience with them was not good, and actually sort of puzzling. I brought them my TTR-125, a new carb, a new intake boot, a new air filter, and asked them to install everything and tune the bike up. he calls me, says it's ready. when I come down to pick it up, the rubber intake boot is literally hanging open, as though they just stopped midway through the job and forgot to finish it. so he runs in, grabs some tools, tightens down the clamp. fine. now the carb I go for a test ride and the bike runs a little rough towards full throttle. I ask him about it and he says, well, the carb could actually use a different jet, one size larger. again as though he just stopped working on my bike midway through the job. so ask him why he didn't finish the job and he said, well the carb came pre-jetted. which is true, but, by his own admission, and not surprisingly, this brand new carb needed tweaking once installed. wait, why didn't you just do the job correctly? just shrugs. stonewalls. hands me a bill for $450. meh. maybe dirt bikes aren't his thing, but, if that's the case, why'd you take the job? read more

I recently bought a 06 Suzuki GSXR 600 and the previous owner had it sit for a long time so the bike didn't run quite as well. I brought it to here to check on what's wrong with the bike and that's where I met John. He's a cool guy and gave a good first impression. He notifies you on what the bike needs to be fixed and also tries to find the best price for you. It's hard to find a good and honest mechanic nowadays whether it's for a car or a motorcycle, but john is definitely a good and honest one. He is the owner and currently only mechanic in the shop, with huge background both as city mechanic and worked on the factory grounds of Honda/Kawasaki. I came for a diagnostic of my Honda Nighthawk 750 after buying on Craigslist. With his $180 2 hour diagnostic (market pricing for $90/hr), he evaluated and gave me accurate estimates for must do's and necessary upgrades. He understood my budget, and offered free maintenance and self-diagnose advice when I asked. Before doing any quick fixes, he called to make sure I wanted them before completing it - something I am very grateful for. The cost overall came to $152 since it took him less than 2 hours to diagnose and cost for spark plugs he replaced. I took my Suzuki V-Strom 650 to John on a Saturday morning to diagnose an engine noise. He listened to the engine noise himself and brought in another technician to get a second opinion on what what could be the origin of the noise. Both of them were very passionate knowledgable and helpful. Also they are very responsive. The day I went their apparently the shop was having some computer trouble. Recently serviced my 2012 Ducati Monster with John and and I couldn't be happier. I moved to Fremont about 7 months ago and I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to find a trusted mechanic on this side of the Bay. What surprised me most when receiving my bike was his thoroughness in making sure my bike is performing at its best. Finding a good AND fair priced mechanic, especially with motorcycles, is a rarity nowadays since the majority fall on one side or the other. Midnight Mechanix is small shop with John as the primary mechanic (more help is on the way), so my recommendation is to schedule an appointment and assume there other other bikes in queue. With that said, be sure to align upfront on when you need your bike back, especially if it's your primary mode of transportation.
