10/27-11/3 lunch special - Butternut Squash and Apple Special Sandwich - Chicken and Pear Chutney

First timer to this established spot (new city, new job) and even the smells from the parking lot had me doing the happy food dance! I did some online recon prior to arriving so I knew I wanted the weekly lunch special (copied/pasted from website) - Butternut Squash and Apple Sandwich Butternut squash fritter, green apple, pumpkin-seed pesto, caramelized onions, and Manchego cheese grilled on Walnut Sage. $11.95 I have a life threatening tree nut allergy so the multigrain bread was suggested in place of the walnut sage - absolutely perfect combo of texture with the sunflower seeds in the bread that meshed well with the squash fritter and pumpkin seed pesto! Chefs kiss! Perfectly grilled with the kinda crunch that makes ya slap your mama and the warm tender inside of the sandwich and it's featured fall ingredients - nom nom nom Staff was kind and patient even for the time of day and long line. Can't wait for next week's special!

They were busy and the workers were overwhelmed but very helpful with picking a good sandwich. The food is super fresh. Great ingredients, and lots of delicious options. I was more impressed than I thought I'd be. The Rueben was good but I'd recommend taking off a bit of sauerkraut because it was a bit overpowering at first. The sourdough is so good! There was cute indoor and outdoor seating!

SO SO GOOD!! Every sandwich we had was amazing. I highly recommend the spicy tuna and chicken salad. I want to come back and try everything else on the menu. I love that they have rotating specials. You order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table. We got our food fairly quickly despite the restaurant being packed. This is a great, clean space to study with a few outlets available. The restaurant was super busy when we came around noon but cleared out towards closing time. I would recommend coming at an off hour if you are planning on taking up a table to study at.

Wheatfields is a friendly bakery with delicious artisanal sandwiches. The place is filled with a warm, fall vibe. If you're into Gilmore Girls or still listen to Norah Jones, this is definitely your next visit.

Focaccia

Fantastic bread and baked goods. Easily the most delicious focaccia I've ever had! The meal of salad and focaccia is thick and full of toppings, but not too many, it's perfect, as is the mushroom melt sandwich! The chocolate coconut macaroons are huge, not too sweet but an ideal dessert. Kind of a lunch line setup, but you get through quickly. Have yet to be disappointed in their offerings!

Disclaimer: the bread and sandwiches at Wheatfields are fantastic and I would definitely recommend those. Their desserts aren't quite the same in quality and taste profile. My friends and I got two cake slices and a few other bites, and everything was just a little bit underwhelming. The Tiramisu Cheesecake started falling away from the crust at the back, which was soggy. The Black Forest Cheesecake had better crust and stayed together, but wayy sweet and not as chocolate-y as we were hoping for. Overall, still love grabbing a quick lunch at Wheatfields, but will pass on the desserts next time. If you're coming for the first time, it can be hard to get a seat inside depending on what the lunch rush looks like, so come a little early if you want to snag a table.

This needs to be your go to brunch spot. Tasty food, speedy service. Love the big community table in the middle.

This was my go to college lunch spot when I was going to KU. The must try in my opinion is the number 16 ham and roasted pineapple. They add pickled onion and jalapeño cream cheese, and it's grilled on their house white sourdough. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything that you order here because it's all made in house. The services always super fast. You order the counter and they bring it straight to you at your table. I always make an effort to stop by when I'm in town since I've moved away.

I wish this place was closer to us so we could try everything on the menu. We went to Lawrence recently and we stop in this place while walking around. My husband ordered lunch while I bought some bread. The three cheese melt was so tasty. The chile verde soup of the day was outstanding. The coffee we ordered was also surprisingly good. The walnut bread was delicious. The staff were friendly. The place was busy but they were very efficient. We liked the casual vibe that place had.

Friendly and quick service bakery cafe for a quick snack or meal with a cozy, old-school vibe. Homestyle type food options and variety of sandwiches to choose from. We stopped in for a small bite and tried the daily empanada, which was a vegetable chimichurri variety, with a flakey, light crust that wasn't too greasy or heavy, and filled with zucchini and cauliflower.

Love their rye bread. I buy 4-5 at a time and freeze what I am not using. Their breads are always fresh and delicious.

Makes me feel at home. I love the atmosphere, the French apple tart, the breakfast taco with chive cream cheese and clean bathrooms.

Very, very impressed. I had the lunch special, a bratwurst on a pretzel bread. It was absolutely amazing.

It was difficult to decide which I wanted. It was like an assembly line of perfect little treats. The staff was very nice and helpful. The selection seemed endless and they had drinks in cans that were delicious. I had a very difficult time choosing which I was going to try. There is a seating area in the rear of the restaurant. It was full of happy people eating pastries and chatting. It was a perfect setting. I had heard about this place for years but never ventured inside. I regret not going to this lovely place sooner. I will definitely go back and recommend. I guess this is a franchise business with locations all over the US. I am just glad we have one in Lawrence. Still... WOW!

Couldn't believe it when I a friend told me this place has been in operation for years. Guess I need to venture over to Lawrence from Topeka more often! While not the case across the board, we found a number of the items we selected to be on par with the quality of treats we enjoy while visiting France. Needless to say I will be wearing out the Turnpike making return visits to this real gem.
