It was like an educational hands on field trip for us. Also a fun way to be more creative and collaborative with another ceramic studio. I had a fantastic experience last year and when I found out that we were going to be able to return this year, I jumped on the opportunity! They provide the glazes, the brushes and their expertise. There were several people helping us during this event. Every single staff member was an expert in Raku. They knew so much about their glazes and combinations, the entire firing operation, reduction and post firing procedures. There's a lot of down time while waiting for the kiln to reach its optimum temperature. We got to ask the staff all kinds of questions. They were eager to interact with us: warm and inviting, full of great advice and really knowledgeable ceramicists. Such great team work!They don't talk down to anyone, even praised some of our potter's art work. I loved hearing people share how they made their pieces, and I was proud to share my own story about the construction of my "bird bath" - as one of my fellow ceramicist called it. The participation between the two studios was phenomenal! Thank you Dave, Erik, Oscar, Mary, Darrell and Elise. Sorry that Scott wasn't with us today. You guys are fantastic!!! By the way, thanks to you, Dave and Erik, I absolutely love the way my pieces came out! Your patience and advice made my day. For those of you nay sayers, I've been doing ceramics since 1972, so I kind of think I know something about clay. Bravo! If I live long enough, I'll be back! A million stars for the Clay Yard!

I am so delighted to post a review of my experience with Strokes on Kanvas. Everything was better…read morethan I can imagine! I was desperate to find an activity for the kids at our family event. Something memorable than the typical bouncing jumpers. There were many mobile canvas paint companies to choose from, but my initial contact with Strokes on Kanvas made my decision so easy to move forward with them. I received a prompt follow-up call to confirm their availability, followed by personal messages to solidify the details. This husband/wife duo are nothing less than professionals. They were great with the kids. They were attentive, patient, knew when to give them breaks, knew how to gather them back and re-focus, and just had the kid's (and adults) excited about their painting skills. I had to keep a few adults away from joining the kid's experience. Stephen and Diane, I am so happy we worked together and created a lasting memory for my family. Next up... an adult paint party! I've long wanted to see this historic, artsy house, and since Maloof attended Chino schools, as did…read moremy cousin, I took my cousin for a look-see. We booked the 1.5 hour tour, which was a guided tour of the house that Maloof built and lived in until his death, and a self-guided tour of an art space, some grounds, and a wood working shop. Filled with his beautiful, handmade pieces of furniture and decor from others, this house is a real treasure to behold. Traveling from room to room, we learned Maloof's history and influences, and of those who admired his work, and learned about his dynamic wife Alfreda. (Not a word was said about Sam's second wife!) I wish I would have met Alfreda, as she sounds like she was really something! Our tour guide could have been better: I though he was boring, talked a lot about himself, and neglected to tell us certain things, like alerting us to the wall in the final room that showcased photos of prominent admirers of Maloof's work (like President Jimmy Carter), as well as the fact that he had been awarded a MacArthur Fellowship Grant. It would be fun to take a class in this environment. There was a live music performance, free for all.

After years of saying 'One of these days...' we finally took the plunge. First of all the parking…read morelot is small, but very nice and easy to turn around. It turns out the day we were there was also the same day as an open workshop. My daughter was expertly guided, with great care, to create the project of the day. She was elated. After we walked the large grounds, which included a couple homes, workshops, and gardens. The stroll through the gardens felt like we were off season, as drought conditions were impacting the foliage. We finally made a stop in the gallery, where another workshop was wrapping up. Great experience. Will be back with the kids for the next event.

What was supposed to be a magical birthday celebration for my daughter at Disneyland got completely…read morerained out. Who came to the rescue? In The Kiln! We scrambled for a last-minute change of plans, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. They were incredibly accommodating: we hosted the birthday party right in the studio, decorated the space, brought our own food and non-alcoholic drinks, and set up a special designated area for the birthday girl and her friends. Laura and Bob were beyond patient and so helpful with the kids, guiding them every step of the way to make sure everything came out just right. The selection of pottery pieces is huge (overwhelming in the best way) and they even surprised us with a complimentary plate featuring all her friends' little fingerprints. What a thoughtful touch! It was such a fun, creative day, and everyone stayed nice and dry. Highly recommend for families, especially when plans go sideways.

I take my 8 year old daughter here ever other Sunday. The employee working is so nice! My daughter…read moreusually walks out with 2-3 plushies when I get $20 worth of coins. We usually buy a squishee or 2 as well. I highly recommend joining their rewards program. My only complaint is that the machines aren't a little more full. I understand they can't be filled to the top though. I would also love to see more anime plushies! But overall, I highly recommend this place. It's fun, peaceful, and great for a Sunday afternoon!
