This place isn't very professional at all and if you're trying to explain in detail about your pottery pieces to have fired Elise seems to loose her temper quite easily and quickly if she's not understanding something. I had my mom drop some bone dry pieces with underglaze to have bisque fired and explained in detail the brand I've used / temperature required and Elise still seems lost as to what I want done. She then tells me that she's reluctant to fire my pieces. Wouldn't recommend I fear. read more

I live by LAX and the ceramic studio that I belong to doesn't do Raku firings. HOWEVER, last year and this year we were able to come here to experience the art of Raku. It was like an educational hands on field trip for us. Also a fun way to be more creative and collaborative with another ceramic studio. I had a fantastic experience last year and when I found out that we were going to be able to return this year, I jumped on the opportunity! They provide the glazes, the brushes and their expertise. There were several people helping us during this event. Every single staff member was an expert in Raku. They knew so much about their glazes and combinations, the entire firing operation, reduction and post firing procedures. There's a lot of down time while waiting for the kiln to reach its optimum temperature. We got to ask the staff all kinds of questions. They were eager to interact with us: warm and inviting, full of great advice and really knowledgeable ceramicists. Such great team work!They don't talk down to anyone, even praised some of our potter's art work. I loved hearing people share how they made their pieces, and I was proud to share my own story about the construction of my "bird bath" - as one of my fellow ceramicist called it. The participation between the two studios was phenomenal! Thank you Dave, Erik, Oscar, Mary, Darrell and Elise. Sorry that Scott wasn't with us today. You guys are fantastic!!! By the way, thanks to you, Dave and Erik, I absolutely love the way my pieces came out! Your patience and advice made my day. For those of you nay sayers, I've been doing ceramics since 1972, so I kind of think I know something about clay. Bravo! If I live long enough, I'll be back! Had a private birthday party here the other day and we had an amazing time with instructor Pam. Shes a great teacher, we loved her energy and was very patient with us. It most of our first time and we were throughly walked through and assisted throughout the entire event. Excited to see the final product! read more

For those with special needs, Elise is not accommodating. First interaction/conversation, I inquired on our special needs daughter with high functioning autism. Our daughter's nitch is ceramics. She's a beautiful artist and has had pieces displayed at the Maloof museum. Elise was not accommodating and was short and curt. She made rude comments while interrupting and said "can I call you back? I have food on the stove?" (Why answer the call if she was busy?) also commented with "obviously" when asked if she had my phone number. She seemed to be set on "Does your daughter even have experience with clay?" With a tone of irritation. I was under the impression there was an education component as well as individual memberships for allowance to master their unique craft in ceramics? This is not a very compassionate or accommodating business. My recommendation, get to know the people that are feeding your business. You will find that those with special needs are actually incredibly smart, skilled, and talented. All they want to do is learn....and be given the opportunity to do so. Additionally, if "your right in the middle of eating." Don't answer the phone. read more

This isn't your typical studio. The atmosphere here isn't a welcoming one.. from the gecko I felt unwelcome and like an outcast. It seemed like everything you did in this studio was charged on your account. Firings, glazing and tools were all charged separately. This place was just trying to get money out of you any way they could. I been to several studios. This one by far was not like any other studio. Unprofessional atmosphere. The people there were all like family to one another accept new commerce. This is not a good studio for beginners. read more

Updated review: They lost and broke majority of our party's creations... 6 of us were so excited to finally get our pieces back, only to hear more than half were lost and/or broken. They definitely need a better system of organizing pieces, especially if a party of 6 is creating multiple pieces per person. Unfortunately a few people in our group won't receive any of their creations back :( I wouldn't recommend for a group outing and i'm not sure if individual or small group classes will be any better. Extremely disappointing. read more

Pretty much my all time favorite place at the moment. This industrial warehouse/ yard studio reminds me of my studio as a college student in Boston. The people here are wonderful, warm, open and friendly. I am a novice at working with clay but I am excited to learn! read more

I joined The Clay Yard as a member in January 2018, after doing several Raku firings in their Raku Saturday workshops last year. I love it! I found I already knew a good many of the members from other studios, and the new people I've met are truly fun to be around, helpful and willing to share ideas. I love this place! It's an artist's and crafter's studio. Everyone is welcome. There are plenty of wheels for throwing, tables for handbuilders & a slab roller. They do cone 5, cone 10 & raku firings. There are plenty of glazes to choose from. AND EVERYONE IS SO NICE & FRIENDLY!! No drama. read more

Nice chill atmosphere for an art studio. When I first entered the studio all of the members were friendly and welcoming. Plenty of work space for hand building and wheel throwing. They also sell a good variety of clay's and do private firings. read more
