We came here for a kindergarten school field trip. The kids learned about the different types of wood they use and the various saws that are used to cut the wood. There are many projects to choose from. Our was preselected and they chose the Tic Tac Toe board. They provided each child and parent with an apron and let use chose our colors. After coloring we got to personalized it with some sponge shape design before drying and assembling. The whole process took about an hour. It was a lot of fun! As we were leaving, I noticed they were setting up for a birthday party. The people there were very friendly and kind. I would come back here if it wasn't so far for us. They had about 4-5 employees to tend to the party which helped to keep it all very organized. Kids get to pick from a selection of wooden designs then they go through different stations to complete their creation (painting, painted designs with assistance from employees, drying station, then adding a few details with some buttons or bows). They have various of options for parties. I opted to allow for the painters to pick their own item. Castles were a big thing for the girls and cars/jets for the boys. Space wise, we were the only "party" that afternoon..which worked because Heidi was on her own. She was super patient when working with all the kids, as painting and designing things can be a process for kids. We had tables for the kids to paint and space for adults to sit. The benefit of the pandemic is that we had to make a reservation in advance (win!), we were only one of two groups in the facility (win!), and had undivided attention from Heidi (owner / manager) (win!). It's a great place to go I am very pleased in the appearance of the wait staff, black slacks and button shirts. Glad this little business is in Upland! What a great place to spend an afternoon, especially if you have littles. Since discovering the sawdust factory, I have brought my children three separate times, ages 6 and 4. We typically spend 2hrs here, and the staff is so helpful. It can be overwhelming at the beginning, but with guidance it is manageable and straightforward. Kids pick out a craft. Hands/feet are traced. Pieces are brought out. Kids paint. Pieces are customized, blow dried, and hangers etc added. What I love the most about this place is the uniqueness of the craft, painted by kids but made "presentable" and display worthy. Not that kid crafts aren't presentable as is, but you get what I mean :) Tips. Call ahead and go when it's less busy. You'll get through the stations more quickly. Holidays projects are a fun way to take a snapshot in time, especially if you have littles and include a hand or foot. Go on workshop free days when the $5 workshop fee is waived. Be prepared to spend $40-50 on crafts. Pricey but worth the quality. read more

This is a fun activity to do for kids of all ages, from itty-bitties to adults. It's comparable to Color Me Mine, but you're painting wood pieces rather than ceramics. I called in the morning to make reservations for 4 people--my 5-year-old niece, 10-year old niece, 19-year-old daughter, & me. We showed up at our scheduled time of 2:30pm and we were greeted with an awkward "Did you make a reservation?" (Let me preface this by saying it was busy and chaotic when we arrived.) I would have expected and preferred a friendlier greeting. I was disappointed when the employee got wood pieces for the girls to paint, then walked away, leaving me open-mouthed. I made a reservation for 4 that included me! Eventually, I asked if I could paint a mustache photo prop like the one they had displayed. The worker told me those were photo props for group parties. (So...I can't paint one for myself?) She spoke to someone with authority and came back with the item I requested. It was difficult to flag someone down for help, so we were trying to do the best we could. We figured you paint the wood first...easy enough...get the paint & brushes. After that, my daughter & niece went to the station to use sponge-shaped brushes to decorate, only to be sassed by an employee! (Hmmm...now that help was not needed, rude comments were made?) After the pieces were dried, we sat down in line to have the finishing touches done. The customer at the front of the line said she had been waiting an hour from our spot in line! At that point, I asked to take our things & planned to hot glue the pieces together at home. When I paid for everything, the very apologetic cashier glued & drilled our things appropriately. Minus 2 stars because of the customer service and chaotic environment. Would I return? Maybe on a less busy day. But, despite reservations, there's no way to determine how busy it will get and how that will affect customer service. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the sawdust factory was open during the dreaded quarantine. We had to make sure we had an appt so they were able to follow social distancing compliance. Masks were a must and all the tables were spread apart. I took my 2 kids in to make some projects. We spend a few hours in there making 3 projects which was so nice to get out of the house for bit. They have a huge selection of crafts to make and you can design them anyway you want. I have a 3yo and 8yo. It was really cool to see my 8yo really get creative and see my 3yo think she was creative... They help you add the finishing touches to make the project all tie together. She has been like this every time we have visited but I'm finally done. We came with a group and any time they wanted to use some creativity she huffed and puffed and made them feel like crap! My kids were nervous and insecure to continue their projects! This is not how I want my kids to feel when creating! I know it's hard to let go of control when your kid is going rogue with design ideas but that's the business you opened...for kids to build and design and use their creativity. Every parent in our group remarked at how stressful the experience was. Perhaps she'd do better working with adults, but her behavior toward children is very upsetting. In response to the ONE negative review: I understand the frustration of feeling that your child had not been able to express themselves creatively, but this is not a place where you are given a blank canvas & a paintbrush. I've witnessed adults and kids be upset when their projects didn't look like finished example on several occasions, but they were the ones who choose their own colors/designs/didn't want the staff's help. The cutest little factory ever!!! I booked this place for my daughters 7th birthday, we wanted to do something different and creative and this was more than perfect!! I was really amazed and blown away by the great experience we had. My daughter & her friends had the best time here and were all very happy to be able to leave with their new farm animal and it's own home!! The two lovely staff who I sadly cannot remember their names were great instructors! Everything was on schedule and not rushed at all which I loved very much. We definitely felt like we can enjoy ourselves. There was SOOO much to do that the kids were busy and entertained the whole entire time. Another thing I loved was the personalized bday sign with her name on it. 3 of our lil guests were unable to attend but so we wouldn't lose out on the extras we were able to have some of our big guests take their place!
