"Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889" (1888), by James Ensor (Belgian). On view at Getty Center, Museum West Pavilion, Gallery W103
Mister E.

The Epitome of Quality, Creativity, Service, and "True" Value(s): I have been frequenting this particular Hobby Lobby for over a year now, but had yet to require "Framing Services" until now (since they have always had a wide variety of frames -- and none of my "projects" required anything "special"). That; however, changed -- after my friend and I visited the Getty Center, and she picked out some "prints" of a few of the Paintings we had beheld -- which included the print (itself), and (as part of the packaging) some "matting" -- but no frames. In addition to the originals of the 4 works (whose prints we purchased from the gift shop), we had seen "Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889" (Ensor) -- a "print" of which the gift shop did NOT have -- possibly because its rectangular dimensions make it MUCH Wider that it is High (i.e., not even CLOSE to the typical 8.5 x 11, or 11 x 17 inch shape / ratios to which our eyes have become so accustomed). This Painting (the original on display at the Getty Center) was of particular significance, because she had been assigned an "Analytical Term Paper" in a High School Art History / Appreciation Class whose topic was that particular work (going through each of the archetypes portrayed in the painting -- and speculating upon which elements of Society in 1888 Brussels were being represented). Therefore, I obtained a "print" of the painting -- but was then faced with the challenge of having it framed to "match" the other 4 (without being "overly" / disproportionately large -- due to the artwork's exaggerated width). That's when / where BRENDEN -- Hobby Lobby Upland's "Frame Shop Manager" -- became my hero!!! Not only, was he able to locate a frame that was the same Height, but a wider Width (than the standard frames for "matted" 8.5 x 11 "prints"); but he also put dust protectors on the backs, adherent "bumps," and a "single wire" to make hanging a breeze. AND -- as if that weren't enough -- he then "shrink wrapped" each piece in clear plastic that gives one a perfect "View" of the painting (through the crystal clear shrink wrap) -- but allows it to remain "Protected" until it is ready to be hung. I still cannot understand how I paid so Little, for so Much Work -- because the cost of the frames themselves (which were high quality "natural wood grain") was somewhere in the $30 range -- meaning I was only charged a small amount of "time," for the amount of craftsmanship I received. Either that or BRENDEN is just an incredibly fast workman. At any rate; Three Cheers for Hobby Lobby Upland -- and Specifically for BRENDEN in the Frame Shop -- for making my holiday gift giving truly amazing and appreciated.

Poor customer service and false advertising. Store manager at this location needs to improve his people skills. Store prices are misleading.

A Beautiful, Well-Stocked Studio Perfect for Crops and Creative Retreats…read more I attended a 3-day crop here for $79, and it was absolutely worth it. Just keep in mind -- it's a no-frills experience, which means you're paying for the convenience of a very clean, well-organized studio where you can craft comfortably with friends. The space is stocked with every tool, supply, and embellishment you could possibly need for scrapbooking, card making, journaling, or any kind of paper crafting. They even run a tab for you during your crop, which is so convenient when you find last-minute items you want to buy. Location & Space The studio is located in a business park, so it's easy to miss from the street. It's upstairs, but once you walk in, it's spotless and beautifully decorated -- vintage, feminine, and upscale in style. The layout and organization make it easy to find exactly what you need without digging through clutter. Experience & Staff Frank was there during my crop, and he's genuinely kind and helpful. People come in and out regularly, and it's clear the shop carries unique and hard-to-find products that keep customers coming back. I'm also part of the Journal Club and Card Making Club, and both are very reasonably priced. Whether you're crafting solo or with friends, this place is a gem. Highly recommend attending one of their crops or just stopping by to browse -- it's an inspiring space for any paper crafter.

One of the cutest stores ever!…read more One of the artists (Nellie Le; check out her work!) I follow on IG mentioned Craft Collective as being a new business that was supporting local artists, and I had to find a way to make a visit. Located in Ontario, it's right around the corner of Logan's Candies, and down the street from Unique Cafe and Newsboy Books. I was able to do street parking without too much issue, but I also visited on a weekday (Friday) versus a weekend. But it seems like there should be enough parking even on a weekend! There are still some displays being setup (I walked in when they were building a paper mache piece in one of their windows), but there is a LOT to see when you come by. There are various artists on display now, and more to come! I loved seeing all of the amazing colors and the creativity of folks, and I loved seeing some of the artists that I already follow (including @supercoolspyclub). After making a visit here, there were definitely more artists that I now had to follow on IG! You WILL find something for everyone at this shop. Between the stickers, keychains, art prints, small art pieces, large art pieces, onesies, t-shirts, etc., there are gift options everywhere. Highly, highly recommend to make a visit, as what I took pictures of today may not be available months from now. I was also able to meet the owners Eva and Jonas! Lovely couple, and we were able to chat about the artists and the joy of art. I can see its future as being a gallery/store, and it's such a nice space to really display art, or do workshops (took a picture of their t-shirt printer!). Prices are variable depending on the artist! Keep in mind that all work take time and effort, but some take a looooot of hours, and the prices should reflect that amount of time. Definitely will want to come back!

We scrambled for a last-minute change of plans, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. They were incredibly accommodating: we hosted the birthday party right in the studio, decorated the space, brought our own food and non-alcoholic drinks, and set up a special designated area for the birthday girl and her friends. Laura and Bob were beyond patient and so helpful with the kids, guiding them every step of the way to make sure everything came out just right. The selection of pottery pieces is huge (overwhelming in the best way) and they even surprised us with a complimentary plate featuring all her friends' little fingerprints. What a thoughtful touch! It was such a fun, creative day, and everyone stayed nice and dry. Highly recommend for families, especially when plans go sideways.

Like another Yelper mentioned, they have a balloon service and yesterday they had at least 5 balloon bouquets ready to be picked up! I wish I had taken a picture. It is a bit of a maze but since I was talking to my daughter on the phone anyway, I walked every aisle and appreciated all the variety of items available, from figurines for DIY dollhouses or dioramas, to fabrics, to dozens of types of yarn, to silk flowers, to frames, to paper products such as the black poster board I needed.
