I'm new to the San Bernardino/Riverside area. I'm attending CSUSB and find myself missing my local Los Angeles and Long Beach spots for art supplies. I needed some stuff in a pinch and came across Urge Palette. There are few other places to compare in the area, and their online photos made the place look resourceful. Took a small drive over and I'm glad I did. Elijah was manning the fort that day. He was not only a pleasant dude, but he obviously has experience with various media, and was helping me sort out a project I'm experimenting with. Not just knowledgeable though; he was very clear with his suggestions. With price gouging being a thing nowadays, I was actually surprised I walked out of there with some high quality art paper and some chemicals for just $20. And I saw they had some nice notebooks priced really well. I'll be prioritizing this place for similar purchases while I continue to attend CSUSB. read more

If you're going to shut down for something like the Jan 30th boycott, you should have some way of notifying people other than a sign posted out front. We came from out of town and were very disappointed our trip was for nothing. I tried to make sure you were open before we left, but there was nothing indicating you'd deviate from regular business hours. What's great is that shopping here you support a local store and get to compare products. I was going to purchase a Strathmore brand tracing paper but the worker pointed out that Canson had a clearer view of the image. I wouldn't have known that if I just ordered it online. A dying breed, 'real' art suppliers are hard to find. Pale options include college bookstores or homogenized stores such as Michael's or Aaron Brothers (if the latter still exists). This small shop is surprisingly well stocked with almost everything. Painters especially will be delighted at the selection of brushes, canvases and paints. Especially the paints because some of them are perpetually discounted! Moving around reveals fine chisel sets for linoleum and wood carving, artists pencils, sharpeners and pastels and charcoal. I was impressed with the selection and had a great conversation with the guy working about upcoming changes the the to downtown Riverside and the small art gallery next door that I'll have to creat a Yelp page for. Students and amateur or professionsl artists can find what they need, and they're open a little later than most downtown shops. Nice small art supply store. Lotsa pencils & sharpeners, which is what I needed. I even got a fairly sturdy pencil case. Elijah was very helpful, which I appreciated. Perhaps prices would've been better online, but there's nothing like in-person assistance, advice, actually seeing and trying the items, and of course supporting a local business. If they don't have something, they will get it for you, anything from different types of paper, paints, charcoal, acrylics, pens, pencils, brushes, pallets. Whatever you need! Student discount is a plus. Customer service is friendly and informative. You can also order online or phone in your order and they will bring it out to the curb when you get there. Finally this place reopened for in-store shopping! They super stocked up on everything you need for art class, and extra. I've been going to RCC for fine art classes the past few years, and this shop has been a life saver, only a 5 minute drive away from the college in downtown and they already talk to most of my professors to make sure all the supplies are ready, plus they do student discounts. The associate that helped me out was also able to answer all my questions and tell me why I needed each tool and an idea of how I'd be using them. It was almost like I took a 10 minute workshop just gathering my supplies for my projects! This is one of the coolest shops around. Independent, real artists, and nice music and ambiance. They also added a new section for their spray paint and markers. They even have the MTN paper craft trains! There's also a gallery next door, has a cool photo show. So let me start by saying I originally moved to Riverside County from LA and I grew up, going to Blick and any other place that calls themselves. An art store is usually one of those corporate ones like the Hobby Lobby and Michael's and they called themselves art stores, but they're not, this place is an art store true and true and they're not staffed with a bunch of old ladies that crochet nothing there's anything wrong with that but it's nice talking to an artist that is the same mediums you do, and can offer opinions and explain things to you. It's a really comfortable environment. The way in our store should be, it's the kind of place where I don't mind that my hands are covered in spray paint and there's two employees there that helped me in particular specifically Elijah and this dude knows his stuff when it comes to spray paints and speaking of spray paints, they have all the Montana The gold, the hard-core everything every color it's probably the biggest selection next to Montana's warehouse. And the young lady that helped me I believe her name was Jillian she was a sweetheart. It was very comfortable talking to these people and I definitely found my home away from home and I'm so happy because I get that Blick vibe in a smaller store And for a small store it's shocking how much they have and I'm sure if there's a specialty item you need they seem like the kind of people that will try to order it and have it brought in for you. Best art store in the riv! Got all you need whenever you need it! From paint to whatever paper on art supplies

I would give less but no "0" stars available. Their selections is almost non existent. Well I for one went in to buy a simple 1/2" flat brush. I was the only person in the store and except for this young curly haired guy that was talking on speaker phone with a girl. I heard him say "I have 1 customer" and the girl said "really?!" Leads me to believe that they don't get much people in here. Well thinking I was going to get bombarded with super customer service because I'm a sight for sore eyes....nothing would be further from the truth. I was ignored. I walked around the place and nothing, I looked at the sketch books, nothing...I found the brush I needed and looking lost because I did not find the price, nothing. I walked up to the guy that was on the phone and asked how much for this brush..."I think 5 bucks "... I walked up to the counter and stood there 2 minutes and the guy was still on the speaker phone. I just put the brush back in the container and left. Well, art supply owner and girl on the speaker phone, if you are wondering why this store never has customers just pay it a visit in disguise and you will see the superb customer service. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! Not only do they have a pretty wide selection of art supplies, but if Fritz happens to not carry something you need, he'll jump online and search high and low to find what you need and order it for you! Now that's what I call phenomenal customer service!!!! Fritz and Pavel are rad as f**k! I swear, you walk into Urge as a new customer and you walk out with 2 new homies. They're both so down to Earth and easy to talk to. I bring my 6 year old son in with me sometimes and Pavel and Fritz are so great with him. Fritz even let's my son put a record on the record player every once in a while. The shop is always very clean and has a very serene vibe. I assumed it was one person in the store at a time because he was helping a woman out so when she was done checking out, he walked to the door and said he's not letting anyone in the store. That the lady that was in there was a friend so he let her shop for a few things but I had to place a phone order. Lol horrible. Take your business elsewhere. My absolute favorite store that has actual customer service and a very knowledgeable staff that knows the product. If you find that you need something not in stock they can custom order it in for you. For me it is a rare thing to have a actual art store and even rarer that it is ran by artists for artists . They offer classes if you wanted to learn about a certain medium you always wanted to try to learn ,or just enjoy a live sketch class non-instructed at one of the season held in the "pain sugar gallery" right next to the shop.
