A dying breed, 'real' art suppliers are hard to find. Pale options include college bookstores or homogenized stores such as Michael's or Aaron Brothers (if the latter still exists). This small shop is surprisingly well stocked with almost everything. Painters especially will be delighted at the selection of brushes, canvases and paints. Especially the paints because some of them are perpetually discounted! Moving around reveals fine chisel sets for linoleum and wood carving, artists pencils, sharpeners and pastels and charcoal. I was impressed with the selection and had a great conversation with the guy working about upcoming changes the the to downtown Riverside and the small art gallery next door that I'll have to creat a Yelp page for. Students and amateur or professionsl artists can find what they need, and they're open a little later than most downtown shops. Finally, the UC Riverside Photography Museum is just around the corner if you need inspiration!

Book section. There's art books and magazines from independent publishers, and instructional books for different mediums

Finally this place reopened for in-store shopping! They super stocked up on everything you need for art class, and extra. I've been going to RCC for fine art classes the past few years, and this shop has been a life saver, only a 5 minute drive away from the college in downtown and they already talk to most of my professors to make sure all the supplies are ready, plus they do student discounts. The associate that helped me out was also able to answer all my questions and tell me why I needed each tool and an idea of how I'd be using them. It was almost like I took a 10 minute workshop just gathering my supplies for my projects! This is one of the coolest shops around. Independent, real artists, and nice music and ambiance. They also added a new section for their spray paint and markers. They even have the MTN paper craft trains! There's also a gallery next door, has a cool photo show. Not my cup of tea, but cool if you're into that.

I love the customer service. Every question I have is answered with knowledge and friendliness. I love Fritz the owner. He is a beacon of art in Downtown Riverside. He is the best, and have created an excellent environment for local artists. The variety is top notch-whether you want to spray paint, screenprint, draw or create something unique, they got ya covered at Urge. The employees like Elijah are rad! Keep up the good work guys.

I walked in and instantly fell in love with your eclectic, crowded, ever-changing-yet-never-changing soul. Enough pouring my heart out--here you can find so many unique items that you simply don't see other places. They were one of the first stores to carry Jellycats, along with so many other wonderful things. It's a wonderful place to visit around Christmas because they have so many unique decorations and home items, along with thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts for people. My daughter and I are frequent visitors, and it has become a beloved tradition that we always stop in whenever we're downtown. The ladies who work here are simply wonderful and incredibly helpful. I have nothing but praise for them and their kind, helpful ways.

Im making this review specifically because I agreed with the people who mentioned being tailed by…read morestaff, and that I typically post detailed reviews so might as well... The store is beautiful. Lots of souvenirs and antiques that you can find. Theres probably something for everyone you want to gift -- theres greeting cards, tea sets, animal statues, rings and necklaces, soap bars and ones dispensers, and other trinkets Normally I dont post about my dislike of being obviously followed in a store, but now it's my turn. I technically shouldnt be salty since I had always been law-abiding, but today was a very surprising one! You can tell based on my pfp that I tend to dress nicely, almost old money or New Yorker style. I was the best dressed of my crew that day, and we were still followed -- and not even in a professional way lol, the person was not slick Cant tell if they were a lady or dude but it was almost certain that they were related to the old ladies working at the store. This person tailed my friends and I wherever we went, to the point of blatantly blocking the already narrow aisles and standing behind people with their arms crossed. I go to Ross Dress for Less a lot and am used to security, of course -- but blocking paths and colliding into people is where I draw the line. And where I start posting a review Come here for trinkets and stuff. But get ready to pay for slightly expensive goods -- it's to pay for the security kid who blocks your path

We were here looking for frames for our family portraits and this was the place to go. Sometimes there will be Michael's coupons online where you can get an additional discount. There was trash on the floor, as well as some merchandise. Many areas were in disarray with the way things were stocked. Now I blame customers who are too dumb or too lazy to put items back in their proper spot after picking them up and looking at them. But employees should have enough pride in themselves and be conscious of such conditions that they work in...When I was in high school many decades ago, I worked for one of the major grocers as a box boy and quickly picked up on the notion from just watching the management team as they went about their duties by picking up larger trash pieces and adjusting the shelves whenever an item was out of place or otherwise askew... It's been 2-3 years since I've stepped into this Micheal's...But I feel the management needs to step things up here....
