Westside Auto Pros came to our house in response to a AAA call for inflating a tire. There was a blizzard the night before and we have an MS patient in the house and we needed to get medicine that hadn't been available the day before. The technician, Nick, arrived in 7 minutes (so fast) and found that all the tires needed filling. While waiting for them to fill, he helped me shovel part of the drive so we could get the car out. I am 67 years old and walk with a cane so I appreciated him volunteering to do that so much. He was very courteous and helpful. A keeper! Kudos to both Nick and Westside Auto Pros! read more

They got me in right away, which I really appreciated, but all the vehicle needed was a fuse. They didn't charge me for the fuse (good, I guess) but the diagnostic was $100. So, it was still a very expensive fuse. I kind of feel like I got robbed lol. Everyone was very friendly and the waiting room was nice, but that's also the case at the dealerships. My experience with this garage is the would rather run there lips then help some one and don't try to bate them into an old song and dance about a 50 inspection women didnt want and told the lady behind the counter not to charge her and she did. It was a mess the lady with MS and Disablled was yelled at by the one that's the owners son . Scared the ladie into paying . That was messed up but that lady told them off it was great. Then I m out side and an employee pulled her car up to the front of building on the side got out and keyed that ladies car when walking back to the bay . I said give me my car I out of here . I had them price quote for a hole in the heater core. Was quoted twice as much as what it would cost to get it done where my parents are from (all the way in Pella). Also, what's up with charging people for an estimate? I have a hard time believing that costs in the Des Moines area would be higher than Pella's--after living in Pella for 20 years, I can vouch that it is a much more expensive town to live in than Des Moines. read more

More like Westside Auto Cons. I took my 2007 Cadillac DTS in to have an engine change out. That cost about $4300, which is a fair price. I went to pick up the car on a Sunday and noticed the passenger side air vents and passenger side defrost would only blow cold air. After calling in and telling them about the problem, I was told to bring it in to get it looked at. Apparently something magically went bad in the dash while they were replacing the engine so that would cost me over $1000. I told them not to proceed and that I would pick it up later. My friend dropped me off at the shop, I got in the car and it was in valet mode. There is a switch in the glove box that also magically broke while they were looking at my vents. Once again that cost would come out of my pocket. Pretty strange how I kept getting it in worse condition than I dropped it off in. The engine is still fine knock on wood. So now I just drive around with no music, a cold passenger, and a fogged windshield on one side. It's awesome! read more

Today I just paid $100 for two cups of coffee, forcing me to reevaluate my previously held beliefs on the value proposition of Starbucks. The lumbar support in the driver seat of my Cadillac STS stopped working. The car is no longer under warranty. Before I took the car in, I took the back off the driver seat and isolated the problem. A couple motors were no longer engaging the cables that moved the lumbar support in and out and up and down. I called Willis (the Cadillac dealership) and they told me over the phone that it would cost around $500 for them to fix it, which I thought was a rip-off. Apparently this problem happens fairly frequently. Since I knew what the dealership would charge, I took a chance on Westside Auto Pros in Des Moines, Iowa. I explained the problem to Westside at the counter. I wanted an estimate for fixing the problem. They told me that I would need to authorize an estimate... which meant that I needed I to pay them to repeat back to me the problem. I signed the paper and I waited in the lobby with baited breath while they went through the formality of an estimate. After about 15 minutes, I noticed through the big front window that a technician took the car into the shop. 15 minutes later the technician returned the car to the parking lot. I then overheard the technician explain the issues to the front desk and understood from their conversation that it would probably cost around $800 to fix the problem. Kinda expensive... I decided to get another complimentary coffee from their Keruig machine in the lobby. 30 minutes after I overheard their top-secret conversation, I was still waiting in the lobby and thoroughly over-caffeinated. The anticipation of the estimate overwhelmed my patience - I approached the front desk and asked if my estimate was ready. Granted, there were two of us waiting patiently in the lobby, so I imagine they were swamped. I also heard the telephone ring a couple of times. So, a little over one hour after I arrived they told me that it would take 4 hours of work and $850 to fix the problem. I told them that was too much and they printed a invoice charging me $99.65. I know that I authorized the estimate, but really? Lesson learned - take it to the dealership. read more

I took my convertible car in for repair due to a warning message that the trunk divider wasn't locked in place and the top wouldn't lower. First they misdiagnosed the malfunction, ordered the wrong part, and tried a band-aid approach by "cleaning" the contacts. When I got home and tried to lower the top I got the same warning message. The owner has refused to refund my bill of $386 for not repairing my car. I am now in the process of putting the credit card charge in disput. read more

Westside Auto Pros do really good work. We've had both of our cars there since we moved. They're pretty upfront about everything they are doing and they even offer a shuttle service to and from home/work while your car is in the shop. I'd give the friendliness, organization, and professionalism 6 stars if that was an option. The only catch - and only reason for 4 stars - is the price. They are consistently more expensive than other places. But they're trustworthy and have a great warranty on their work. read more

Not only did he do a free diagnostic test on my battery, but Monty also provided me with a how to lesson on jumper cables. Stay away! These people are crooks, liars, and overall shady people. I took my old pickup there to have new tires put on (that I supplied) and just have the truck looked over for any issues. Well they apparently took that as an open invitation to try and get one over on what they likely perceived as a kid and his crappy old truck. They started by telling me it needed $3000 in repairs....that was the first red flag. I passed on the majority of the parts and ended up getting a new belt put on. As for the tires, I had asked ahead of time that they put the old tires in the bed of the truck so I could use them for weight in the winter time. They said they would. When it came time to pick the truck up, the new tires were on (no air valve caps, however) but the old tires were not in the bed of the truck. I asked where they were. No one seemed to know. I had the guy take me around back to find them. They were no where to be found. The guy 'helping' me - I think his name was Sean/Shawn- stood there awkwardly hoping I'd drop the issue. He then offered me 4 tires from the stack of old ones out back as compensation. Not a horrible offer, because it's essentially the same thing, but I had asked for mine to be put in the truck and they were not. Further, they were clearly no longer in the building, and no one would tell me what happened to them. When I asked the manager what the heck had happened, he simply said, "our bad". I asked for $50 off my bill to make up for it, which they agreed to. The bill also said they performed complimentary window washing, vacuuming, etc. which was clearly not done. Bottom line, someone stole the tires and they were too cowardly to admit what they did. Over the next few months they would send me offers and coupons, and I ended up calling them to have them take me off of their list and out of their databases. The calls continued, and I finally threatened legal action to get them to leave me alone. People, I am fair and open-minded, as well as patient, but please, please do yourselves a favor and go to any one of the hundreds of other auto service establishments in Des Moines. read more

West side Auto Pros failed to find a serious wheel bearing issue in my Audi. They also told me my rim was NOT bent after hitting a curb, and then told me it WAS bent the next time I came in. They also wanted to charge me $315 plus labor for a 10 spoke wheel when they can be purchased online for $180. I would not recommend this shop. Especially for luxury brand cars. read more

Beware!!!!!! I have been a wsap customer for the past two years. In that time I have spent thousands of dollars on overpriced repairs. Just over a year ago I had them replace my water pump and all of the seals in my engine costing me $2400. Just the other day I noticed my engine leaking oil and the loss of coolant. I called and they told me the repairs were under warranty bc it had been less then 18 months. The water pump they put in had already gone bad! On top of that, because I had driven my audi just, and I mean just over 18,000 miles I needed to pay another $1200 to have them replace it again... and they claim there is no oil leak... even though I have oil coming through my headers. That is bad customer service, and I am left shocked that this company is more interested in getting a few more dollars from me rather then fixing their mistake and retaining me as a loyal customer. I will not be back... I would recommend finding a nice small shop who will stand behind their work. read more

This is the worst auto repair shop I have ever taken a car to. I would not recommend anyone use this shop. They do not listen to what problems are going on with the car. My battery kept dying after a car accident. They allegedly solved the problem by removing a fuse in the steering column. The battery died again the day after I picked my car up and I was then accused in writing of taking the steering column out and reinstalling the fuse myself to make the battery die again. I'm an elderly woman on medical leave who knows nothing about car repair. This was unbelievable. They removed the fuse again. Now I have no horn, no cruise control, no air bags, no interior lights, and my tailgate will no longer open. This place is a joke. read more

I had them look at my car for an issue that I don't want to identify for privacy reasons. They told me it was due to two separate components of my car that needed to be replaced completely, and it would cost me more than $1700. They had already charged me around $100 (before my coupon) just to look at the car and determine what was wrong. $1700 was too much money for me, so I called around and got a cheaper estimate somewhere else, then picked up my car. The place I brought my car to found nothing significantly wrong with either part that Westside identified as needing to be replaced completely. Instead they found that it was a completely separate issue that only cost me $50 total to fix. That $50 dollars included all the tests they ran trying to find something wrong with the parts that Westside said needed to be completely replaced. Side note: West Side Auto Pros wanted to charge over $100 just to read the code given off by the check engine light. I've had that done before for free at other places, so I declined that service. Still, that just told me they were expensive. I had a coupon (which is why I went there) so I was a bit nervous about how much it would cost to fix my car, but not horribly worried at that point. I was totally ripped off by these "Ford experts" and as it was an old RV and I had organised the repairs site unseen from Europe they certainly took me for a long ride. 3 other mechanics did some repairs to these guys repairs in other states later and just shook their heads at some of the work completed (or not) a $4000 job cost $8000 and it still wasn't right. They are very quick to respond by email until you have paid the bill and then they don't want to know you. I am lucky I had a few other good experiences with mechanics or it would have been just one big USA slap in the face for this Aussie family. Had brake lines changed due to ruptured line. Was charged for all lines replaced, only half were. Of the ones that were replaced they were run poorly (hanging outside the frame and rubbing against one another). Took the vehicle to a Qualified Mechanic in an qualified shop to have their work redone.including routing the lines correctly and then replace the remaining corroded, unsafe lines, including removal of one line that should have been removed, but was not and then wrapped around my fuel line where it could rub on that until it ruptured.Perhaps the should spend some of the time and money spent on the vehicle photo shoot and the "chemical analysis' telling me my oil is brown for up sale purposes and focus on whats important "Quality work".Whats really sad is that I'm a AAA member. read more

*** WORST REPAIR SHOP I HAVE EVER BEEN TO *** DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!! I recently needed my water pump replaced in my vehicle. i came to westside auto because the originally quoted me $350 to do the work. I had 3 other qoutes in the same price range but opted for westside because it was closer to my work than the others. after i scheduled a time i did some reading online and saw all the bad reviews. i almost cancelled my appointment based off of what i read but then i thought that "only people who get poor service write reviews" and i gave them a chance. WORST IDEA EVER ! they contacted me halfway through the day and stated it would be $500 to replace but would not give me a reason for the difference in price. i was needing my vehicle done as soon as possible so i just told them to do the work. 2 days after i had the work done my vehicle started to act funny. the gauges would tick up very high (never happened before), my heat was kicking in and out (never happened before) and it eventually went out 7 days after my "work was done" and now it was leaking engine coolant at a very high rate. my car is not old and is not a junker and this was not anywhere close to being a normal thing. i took my vehicle into my dealer (very trustworthy and where i have always gone except for this one time) and they advised me that the water pump that was put into my vehicle did not have the correct size fittings and therefor was ABSOLUTE JUNK in my vehicle. I had to replace it at my dealer 2 weeks after i had the work done at westside auto. now i went back to westside auto the day after i got my vehicle back in working order with a new water pump that WAS MEANT FOR MY VEHICLE. i let them know what happened and even showed them a write up from a CERTIFIED repair shop showing what was wrong and i was told i would be taken care of and they would respond back to me via phone later that afternoon. i called back in 4 times that afternoon and was blown off each time. NOT ONCE DID SOMEONE TRY TO CONTACT ME BACK AS I WAS TOLD! i finally got a response the next day (again i had to make the contact) and this is what i was told: THEY ARE NICE ENOUGH AND WILLING TO GIVE ME A $200 STORE CREDIT ON A FUTURE REPAIR. **!!!! WWWHHHAAAATTTTTT !!!!*** ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!! I spent $500 on an originally quoted $350 water pump replacement that was done by a negligent repair shop that ended up messing my vehicle up more after the fact and not only do i not get my money back but these jokers think i am going to bring my vehicle in for another future repair ??? And to think that when i brought in the crap water pump they tossed in my vehicle they tried to take it back without giving me that portion of my money also. I wonder how long that would have sat in the shop before they tried to dump in the next person looking for HELP - probably would have gone into the very next car. Completely overpriced and misleading. Let me start by saying that I have never left a bad review for any company before this. I had my truck fixed here as we were traveling through. The repair was almost $1700! We had no choice but to pay as we needed our vehicle to move on. We were given the receipt that states there is an 18 month/18,000 mile warranty if we brought it back to their facility. We expressed concern as we would not be in the area again and told that they were part of a NAPA nationwide warranty and we could take our vehicle anywhere. The receipt says to call them if we have a failure out of the area. We were led to believe, according to the receipt and not told otherwise that the warranty would be for the full 18 months and 18,000 miles. Well, 9 months and 13,500 miles later, we had the EXACT SAME problem. We took it to a Napa approved facility in Arizona and were told that the warranty was only good for 12,000 miles and we were 1500 miles over. We contacted Westside Auto Pros that told us, "We will take care of you. Don't worry." However, after a few phone calls they told us that they would not take care of us and we had to pay the entire cost of replacement. To make matters worse, the new repair facility charged $663 for the SAME problem! Westside Auto Pros had charged us almost three times that amount for the same problem. Westside put on the most expensive brake pads and did additional, unnecessary work even after asked to please do the minimum so we could get back home. Their receipt did not include a break down of hours of labor. By lumping repairs together, they were easily able to hide unnecessary repairs. They should get a gold star on knowing what to say to customers to hide what they really are willing to do. They know what to say to get you in the door but are completely unwilling to stand by their work and they charge unfair prices and do unnecessary work. I would be sure to stay away from this company. They are what give auto repair facilities a bad name. read more
