I brought them 10 framed portraits that were many years old and terribly faded. They did their magic and restored them beautifully and thoughtfully. I brought in smaller pictures so they could accurately color match. The results brought tears to my eyes. Such a difference! While it's an increased cost, the museum glass is totally worth it - no light reflections and it looks like the person is right there in front of you, looking out. I carefully picked out John's shop after searching Yelp all across Boston, and I am so glad that I did! It was clear that John took great care in every step, from stretching the canvas to fitting the frame. He also added a protective lacquer to my piece at no extra cost. I really appreciated his artistic eye in picking out the frame, which is perfect for my piece (so much so that I would even say that it looks like the frame was made for it!). Furthermore, he gave me a really excellent price that worked with my limited student budget. John is a very kind person and clearly is passionate about what he does, and I will recommend Atelier 564 to my friends. I should also add that I brought two additional pieces to John for him to take a look at and give an estimate on, including one tapestry, and upon seeing how I was storing them (inappropriately) he re-wrapped them in a way that would be less damaging. He also gave me input into how he'd frame/mount them, including telling me how to mount the tapestry in a way that wouldn't involve framing and would be cheaper (i.e., in a way that wouldn't involve his services!). We went in with an idea of what we wanted and John guided us with suggestions. That said, he is very difficult. This last time we were tossed between 2 different frames. We chose one, gave a 50% deposit. When we arrived home and considered the space it was to be hung, we decided to go with the other choice. We immediately called John (we left his store only 30 minutes prior) to tell him we are changing to the other frame. He was nasty, said we were "grinding him" (not sure what that means since we were asking only for his opinions) and said he's too busy to deal with this and to come get our piece. We attempted to calm him down and in spite of his unprofessional demeanor told him we'd be in to look at the other frame. Upon further consideration I decided I did not want to work with someone so unprofessional. When I arrived I asked him what went wrong and he lost it again. Crazy! He the gave me our piece wrapped in paper, not in the tube he was given and when I asked him to put it in the tube for protection, he said "I already rolled it." In spite of his great work....."CAUTION!: STAY AWAY"

It is nice and glossy and it effectively removed that creepy unfinished clay like chalkboard feeling. They said it is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe so excited to get it in rotation! They have a pretty quick turnaround time (3-5 days) and are very generous with their hold times. I embarrassingly will admit it took me a few months to get back to pick them up, and thankfully they still had them waiting in the back. Also, the garage DOES go through to the back of the building where The Painting Place is - so the directions are correct. It was much easier to get there this time when I realized it was a pull-through garage under the building lol.... I will definitely keep The Painting Place on my list for pottery crafts in the future!!

They even had pre-made paint palettes as an option. They also have some pottery pieces and things you can paint and take home the same day, but you can't eat from those items as they don't go thru the kiln. There wasn't a ton of variety in the pottery pieces to choose from, and the prices were a bit high compared to what I've seen in the past. We enjoyed our time. There were only two other parties there so it was very quiet and peaceful. Tip: if you use GPS for directions, it'll point you to the building across from theirs. They're right across from the Russian School. Their sign is a bit hidden. They do have a free parking lot.
