I showed up to artful edge for the first time and asked Kim if she could help because my client needed it in two days. Kim called a printer in Boston and offered to pick it up for me. I'm an artist and have been going to Artful Edge for about a year now to have my work framed. It's the absolute best! Kim and her staff are so knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful. Kim always helps me find beautiful, unique frames that are perfect for my paintings and they have such a great inventory there that I'm always excited by all the options they show me. In addition to all the bespoke frames, they also have pre-made ones, in case you're looking for something quick and easy. In deference to the pandemic, they have large plexiglass shields set up between the staff and the customers and they limit the number of people in the store at a given time. I'm very conservative in terms of taking risks around COVID and I've always felt extremely safe in the shop. read more

I decided to come here to get my masters degree framed, and Kip was very helpful in deciding the frame and matte finishing to use based on my style and preferences. There are literally hundreds of options of various frames to choose from, so it can be a little overwhelming if you don't know what you wants. Kip was also kind enough to give me a graduation discount as I didn't have the running coupon on hand at the time. Total turn around time is 2 weeks typically. I've had them frame everything from pieces that are over 100 years old to movie posters. They go over everything with you to assure you are getting the type of result you are looking for. I kept forgetting to give this place a 5 stars review. The service is great! Kim is great! She's very knowledgeable and recommended me many frames but will still listen to see what I like and then she goes on from there. All my wedding photos were finally framed and looked so beautiful! I was in the middle of moving to a new location and didn't even pick up my wedding photos till a few weeks later and they're so nice to let us keep it there for a bit so it won't get ruined. The wood frames were all imported from Italy and they're not cheap. My wedding photo sessions already costs over $1k and then the 5 wood frames costs about the same. Too this day I still didn't get to hang then up yet because we don't have a permanent home yet. Until we do, can't wait to put them up. Kim chose all the frames that matches the pictures and goes with the theme. There is one frame that I regretted choosing. But it does match the picture. I recommend this place!!! read more

I had my Master's Degree framed here, and was sure I was going to end up paying through the nose, ears, or whatever your favorite orifice happens to be. I was pleasantly surprised by the initial price, which the girl at the counter took another 20% off of. The work is also stellar. I'm a miserable human being, so usually I enjoy complaining about things, but I can find nothing wrong with the work here. They helped me pick out colors for the matting that matched my degree wonderfully, and even matched my school's colors. The quality of labor appears to be excellent as well. The rave reviews are totally deserved! Kim has true people skills, is super knowledgeable, and is an artist in her own right too. I came in there to get our ketubah framed (after almost a year being rolled up!). I was rather daunted by the task of selecting the right frame. She did an amazing job walking me through the process and selecting the right group of frames for me to check out. The cost is very reasonable, given how gorgeous the frame is going to be (around $140. It sounds like a lot, but it's totally worth it). While I was there, a couple were picking up an order of 12 pieces. I can see the work ranged from a kid's artwork with essay to specially commissioned paintings. All were superbly done! Beautifully matted and perfectly framed, all perfectly complimenting the work they were showcasing. They also sell ready-made frames for very cheap. Now I just need to become a grown up and be able to afford real art for her to frame! read more

This is a picture of my dad looking at a picture of my mother just before he shipped out for Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, liberating a concentration camp and all the other fun of WWII. I wanted to post it on facebook on Veterans' Day, but dropped it, shattering the glass. ( My dad and the picture survived so much, but he came home to sire a real klutz.) I took it to Artful Edge and they treated it like the treasure it is, even polishing the frame. They figured out how clumsy I am and wrapped it in enough bubble wrap to cover a horse. They probably would have bubble wrapped me, if I had asked. (If you are giving somebody a horse any time soon, call me, I can help.) Seriously, they are skilled, talented people, incredibly nice, and their prices are reasonable. I saw lots of pieces of "real" art there, and they all looked great. The location is on the gritty looking end of Harvard Street, just next to the Post Office, but they do just as nice work as places in fancier areas. I've always found street parking, and if you have a heavy piece, some nice young employee will carry it to your car. What more could you ask? read more

After working on a family photo project, I went to Artful Edge today, excited to have several of my prints custom framed. Kim took the time to help me find the most beautiful frames and she gave me a great price too. However, when I got home, it turned out that my husband had drastically underestimated the cost of custom framing and he was unhappy with how much money I had spent. This was MY fault and I knew I needed to swallow my pride and make it right. After all, I couldn't look at the beautiful photos on my wall for years to come, always remembering that they caused a fight. My husband and I got in the car and went all the way back to Allston. Kim welcomed us into the store (after hours, even) and she worked with us to come to a price that we could all be happy with- without sacrificing the quality and beauty of the end result. I ended up just having one of the larger prints framed and Kim was completely understanding about the fact that I will just have to come back and have the other two framed at a later time and she didn't make me feel bad about it either... I had an inexpensive poster to frame and found these guys on line. They had excellent reviews and a 20% off coupon on their website so off I went. They were great! I was pretty indecisive and the man who helped me was helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I went in a week or two before Christmas and my print was ready by New Year's weekend which is amazing for that time of year. I found the price to be more than reasonable as it was a large print and professional framing can get really expensive. As a freelance concert photographer with a full time pet photo business, I know the market and Artful Edge is easily the best frame shop in the Boston area, if not the entirety of Eastern New England. I've had close to a dozen of my own concert prints signed by the artists and they've framed them all behind U/V protected glass with preservation methods previous frame shops didn't utilize. They helped me put together an anniversary present for my partner and they were the ONLY business I trusted to help me frame an autographed photograph of Muhammad Ali in a way that will preserve it for generations. I also happen to know that when Celtics Legend Paul Pierce had his #34 Jersey hung from the rafters of the Garden, the Celtics organization had Artful Edge put together the large framed commemorative gift they presented the former Celtics captain during the on-court ceremony. I had to come on here for the first time to say what an amazing job Artful Edge did on a piece for me. I had, admittedly, quite a unique piece for them to do. My design was challenging, the mounting was strange and I was indecisive... could a customer be more frustrating? But they sat down with me, helped me nail down a beautiful (but still difficult) design, and did so like we'd been friends for years. They really go above and beyond to make you happy, while in the design process, with the result, and with the price. My piece would have a third of the quality and been twice the price anywhere else. But I'll come back to them because of how amazing they are personally and how happy they made my dad on Christmas.
