I have been using West Roxbury Framing for years. Okay not decades or anything, but nearly a decade. Probably around 15 pieces at this point. Some for personal use and some as gifts. They have an excellent selection and are always happy to help assist you. I recently moved to within a very close proximity of another shop that does exclusively framing and after one visit to them, I left without buying and I returned to my tried and true folks. Moses and team have a small space that may look a trifle disorganized, but they provide an exemplary service and I am always happy with the result. Most recently I got a phone call about 30 minutes before they closed to say my art was ready for pick up. I am about a 20 minute drive away, so I rushed there for pick up because I was so excited. Moses has an old school integrity. He could likely charge twice the price with half the effort and quality and still get business all day. But, he doesn't. It's about integrity. He is working at the highest level. Each and every framed product he creates is so unique and beautiful he should actually sign it. I have never encountered anyone who can frame pictures with such an eye for quality that it can even equal the quality of the art he's framing. I asked Moses to frame a signed lithograph - which admittedly (at least to me) was itself stunning beyond words. I was lucky to have even acquired it. And, actually, I was nervous even having it framed. What I received backed looked as though it belonged in the Museum of Fine Art. I'm still speechless. I said 'perhaps a simple black frame' .. he's like "NO.. this antique sort of gray frame, this mat.. an inner mat.. this antique look.. and so on.. I can see it now. Alan, this will look like it should be in a Museum". And, I just trusted him. I could tell within just minutes of having met him.. he's the real deal. We had a huge and unwieldy piece of art (on rolled paper) that needed to be framed asap for an exhibition, and had no idea how to go about such a thing. Everyone usually complains so I'm taking the time to share my great experience with West Roxbury Framing. I had my 13 year old son choose four posters to have framed. When I brought them in to be priced, I hesitated at the quote as it seemed a bit much. It was explained to me how time consuming it was to mount and frame a poster. I agreed to the quote, paid a deposit and came back less than two weeks later for them. I was stunned at the weight. I assumed they were going to be plastic but instead found glass and metal. When I mentioned it to the shop owner he told me "We don't use plastic". I had no idea what I had paid for. When I got them home and opened the bundles, I was again stunned at the quality and craftsmanship. My son was was also really happy. Five stars does NOT do Moses's business justice......this place was an amazing find. I purchased my first piece of Art on-line, an original on canvas for $2K. After it was delivered I started the process of looking for a business that I could not only trust, but get recommendations on what to do w/the piece. I contacted the curator and she told me that most originals do not get framed, but just need to be stretched and mounted on a wooden structure for stability and provide hardware to allow the piece to be hung. I called around to a few places and received prelim quotes to do this.......approx. the same price as I paid for the piece......not the answers I was looking for. I expanded my search to places outside of Boston proper and found a needle in a haystack!! I contacted Moses and immediately knew he was the one. He mentioned that he couldn't provide a quote until he saw the piece, which to be honest, made me a bit skeptical, but for some reason I felt like I could trust him. It took me almost 90 minutes on public transportation to get there, but it was well worth it. I took the piece out of the roll and Moses immediately recommended I frame the piece. He provided multiple options at different price points, but the first and most expensive option I decided to go with and included the price of the frame!! (no other quotes included this) Assumed this would cost double the price of the piece and wasn't looking forward to hearing the quote. Amazingly, it was less than half of ALL the other quotes for more than 3x the work. He finished the piece and I had my sister pick it up as it's extremely large. (70"x50"). When my sister brought it to my place.......I was stunned. It looks absolutely AMAZING and makes my place pop. Moses does amazing work and is extremely knowledgeable, trustworthy and every other adjective you can think of to describe a business that I will be using for the rest of my life. West Roxbury Framing Center has remarkably low prices, high quality, and a dedication to craft and customers that is so frequently missing these days. I brought six pieces here to be framed, and Moses quoted me a cost that was between HALF and TWO THIRDS what I expected, based on past experience with other framers. And I was used to hunting for low-cost, so it's not as though the places I was going to in past were high-priced. I was blown away. Some of the smaller pieces I had he actually did for about $30. I couldn't believe it. And when I picked them up, they were beautiful. This is not a scenario of "you get what you pay for." The quality of the work and materials he used were great. I have to admit that at first I was somewhat skeptical because we didn't spend a lot of time on each piece figuring out exact measurements and comparing a lot of different mats and frames. But I'm sure he'd have been happy to do so if I'd wanted to. Instead, I decided to trust him, and I have no regrets. And because I've given him several pieces now, he continues to give me fantastic prices. More recently, I brought him two pieces, and was given a price by his associate. A day or two later I received a call from Moses, suggesting that the pieces would benefit from a double-mat. At no additional cost. He was just going to do it for free. Why? Because he felt it would look better. Now THAT is customer service and dedication to ones craft that is all-too-often missing these days. I will likely never get my framing done anywhere else. If you want to get a good job done, with someone who knows what he's doing, and get a great price, you really should check out this place. I have had great experiences in the past and they've done beautiful work for us. The owner clearly takes pride in their work and has followed up with me in the past to make recommendations and improvements to projects. However, I recently had a bad experience when framing a magazine cover. I was hoping to have someone advise me a bit but the employee didn't offer any guidance so we went with a basic black frame. When I received them back, some of the wording was cut off one of the magazine covers. I brought it back and we decided to put a mat on it so that the wording was visible (shouldn't that be obvious?). However, we were charged full price for the second frame. When I questioned the pricing, I was told that the first one wasn't their mistake - I should have realized that the original frame had a lip that would cut off the wording and chosen a different frame. So all in all, the end result looks good, but the pricing structure, lack of accountability and attitude I received was disappointing. read more
