What a fantastic experience I had with this shop and the owner, Tom. I brought in a poster from a French museum that featured the paintngs of my great- grandfather with the hope it could be enhanced in size, framed, etc. Tom guided me through the various options and within 15 minutes we came up with the right combination. I ordered four for family members as gifts for my children and a nephew. Yesterday I got a call from Tom saying the finished product was in and ready for pickup, which I did today. Tom expertly shrink-wrapped together the four pictures for easy transport and brought them to my vehicle. I left the shrink-wrap on since it's a gift, but you can get a sense of the quality of the frame and reproduction. Tom is the epitome of a small shop owner who cares about his workmanship and his customer service. And a great story teller. read more

We went here on the recommendation of Kolbo Fine Judaica (across the street) for framing of our Ketubah (the Jewish marriage certificate). We brought the Ketubah in right after we bought it (before the wedding - over a year ago) and were helped by 2 people. They were very knowledgeable and, while not overly friendly, were nice and helpful. We mounted the Ketubah on the foam(?) backing and they put a piece of acetate over it, so that we could sign it during the wedding, but keep it safe and secure. We finally brought it back for the final framing a few months ago (it sat in our place for quite a while). We picked a nice, simple frame - the woman who helped us pick the frame let us look around and touch what we wanted, but also gave us help and advice when asked. They obviously didn't charge for the backing, since that was done, so we only had to pay for the frame, glass and matting. It was pretty reasonable in price (part of that depends on the frame you use) and they were actually having a sale right when we brought it in for a discount on any wedding-related framing. Good thing we waited so long!! I would definitely go back there for anything else important that needs framing, as they are dependable, do a good job and are helpful. read more

Top notch work. I have been slowly but surely framing concert posters I've had for YEARS (and some recent ones) over the last 5 or so years here. It is a little pricey - sure - but it's custom framing and these are "forever" pieces. They work with you very closely and don't rush you in helping decide which frame, which type of glass, color schemes, etc. instead of some dinky little frame from Michaels that won't even fit properly or protect the image over time. 100 percent worth the money and going in here is a great experience - super hands on and involved with exactly what you want and they work within any type of budget. Quality work with a collaborative spirit from the staff is what you will receive from The Picture Place. I've had a couple things framed here in the last month or so, and have had great experiences. The pieces I brought in had two different flavors of need: the first was a basic print and the second was more of an idea that I had in need of some pro consultation. I worked with Dave both times, and he was entirely cool, mellow, and helpful. He took the time to lay out dozens of frame possibilities without ever pushing me into the pricier options. As I mentioned earlier, it was very collaborative. The first piece is finished and is hanging on my wall....looks great! The second project is a bit more involved and is in process at the time of this review. Overall, the cost is good for the level of quality you will receive in the finished piece. Also of note is that the turn around time isn't bad at all. The first job took maybe 8-10 days. Definitely worth stopping in for your framing needs, you'll appreciate the superior outcome to a large scale framer like Micheal's or even other independent shops. read more

The proprietor and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful for any framing needs. In early February, my husband and I took a bunch of playbills from Shakespeare's Globe to be framed at the Picture Place. We had lived in London for many years and enjoyed attending the performances at the Globe each season. From the moment we walked in David took such great care of us. He helped us arrange the playbills, pick the matting, and the frame. If you are looking for something to be framed go here and ask for David. Please note that the Picture Place has changed ownership though it retains the same name, logo etc. I had been taking my stuff to them for years before when one day I just found them closed with no information on the door. Then they reopened and it looked like the place had been changed around so I thought it had just been renovated. I was very pleased since I had always had great work from them so I took a valuable signed and numbered print to frame. I quickly realized that it was new ownership when they could not find me in their system but I figured they'd be ok even though the price for the frame was a bit higher than what I had expected. When I picked up the framed print it looked a little wavy on the top - it was framed matless in a 'box' configuration - but I was assured that that was normal. I had asked for some associated materials to be kept with the frame - which usually means they get placed in a plastic envelope affixed to the back of the frame, they had just pinched them into the clips. After a few days hanging at home the print started drooping and was soon askew and the ripple across the top became extremely pronounced. I took it back to them and the owner told me that he had fired the person that framed my print and that he would fix it. I got it back and it looked better so I took it home and again after a month or so, the linen tape that was used to affix it to the backing came undone on the right corner enough that it twisted the left corner which has permanently wrinkled and cracked the delicate finish of the print which has foil paint. I took it to another large well known framing place and was told that the wrong materials were used to attach the print to the backing and it would have never held. When we took the print out of the frame the damage was even more extensive to the back as it looked like at least two different types of adhesives had been used and ripped off taking a fair amount of the paper off the back of the print in those two top corners. The backing white foamcore had also been reused from the first botched attaching job and it would have been essentially impossible to adhere the print with new adhesive. The bottom line is the print has loss most if not all its value and I have been forced to go to another frame shop to have their botched careless job repaired. read more

I wanted to hang a framed painting, but the frame had no way to attach wire for hanging. I took it into The Picture Place to see if they could attach some for me. Abby helped me right away and was so nice, advising me that covering the back in paper would also help protect the painting. She attached D-rings and wire in 5 minutes and charged me $5. So worth it! It would have taken me at least 30 minutes to do that myself even if I had had the drill, the rings or the patience - which I didn't. So worth it! It also looked like they had a great selection of frame styles in the shop. I will come back here for any other framing needs. read more

Loved this place for over 20 years under former ownership and their work was superb. Called recently and learned that ownership had changed and the people who had been doing the excellent work had left. The person who took my call provided negative and abrupt answers plus when I asked a further question, hung up on me. After speaking with other framers in the area, there appears to be a general consensus that the excellent quality and customer service has not transferred under new ownership. read more
