Arts & crafts galore, picture framing wonderland, and all the holiday decor you can think of. I just stopped by to see if they might have some cute Christmas-themed signs or trinkets for my new apartment and was blown away by the amount of stuff they had. Not to mention, the shelves were fully stocked for the most part! It felt like all the Christmas stuff was all on sale?? I mean everywhere I looked it was either 40% off, 50% off, or buy 1 get 1 50% off. Trouble for me that's for sure. This was a fabulous surprise. I went in looking for the possibility of some cute Christmas stuff, and left with and entire carriage full of stuff: a 7 foot fake tree, white lights and colored lights for my tree and to put up outside, garland for my fireplace that looked real and not tacky, a star topper, fake greenery to put in a vase, and more. The fake trees on display really take the cake here. They are all out on display the second you walk in, so you can get an idea to scale of what they look like with their lights on as well as the size and height of all them. They were on crazy sale and even without the sale it seemed like reasonable prices to me! I come here often throughout the year but this is the place to go if you're need something for the holidays!

This is for the custom-framing service specifically. I brought in several dozen works on paper, looking to have them matted for an exhibition. I let the specialist know I had a $400 budget, so would do as many as possible within that budget, prioritizing the larger pieces and one-off sizes (since I could bulk order mats for whatever was left and mat the remainder myself). Most of my pieces were 9"x12", with a few 8"x12", 11"x17", etc. I spent 2.5 hours while the specialist photographed/measured/calculated.. in the end, for $450 (yes, it got bumped up) I could only mat 15 pieces. Cripes. So I expected, for $450, the result would be fantastic. Not so. Two weeks later, I go to pick up the pieces, and find they've been matted askew, corners/edges offset, artwork in the corner of the mat instead of centered, visible tape on the edges, mats coming apart, and, because they're matted on foam-core for some odd reason, chewed-up along the edges. They look a mess. AND one of the mats is empty. No artwork at all. The specialist who did the work is present, but not helping me. The other staff who are start searching the place, looking for the missing art... Was the plan to just send me home with the empty mat and hope I didn't notice I was short one? Finally, another employee comes back, and says Anna, the specialist who did the work, couldn't find the 15th piece when she went to mat it. So she assumed I took it home with me... Ummm, Anna, you CHARGED ME $30.81 to mat it, so you think maybe calling to find out would've been appropriate?! Again, what was the plan for when I picked up my order with this piece of art missing?! Sigh... I refuse 6 of the matted pieces and ask for them to be redone. It takes another 4 days (the event was in 5) and I thankfully found the missing piece of art (I matted it myself) and got a refund for its matting charge. I will NEVER use Michaels' framing services again! The pieces I matted myself turned out way better and certainly didn't cost me $450!

It is nice and glossy and it effectively removed that creepy unfinished clay like chalkboard feeling. They said it is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe so excited to get it in rotation! They have a pretty quick turnaround time (3-5 days) and are very generous with their hold times. I embarrassingly will admit it took me a few months to get back to pick them up, and thankfully they still had them waiting in the back. Also, the garage DOES go through to the back of the building where The Painting Place is - so the directions are correct. It was much easier to get there this time when I realized it was a pull-through garage under the building lol.... I will definitely keep The Painting Place on my list for pottery crafts in the future!!

They even had pre-made paint palettes as an option. They also have some pottery pieces and things you can paint and take home the same day, but you can't eat from those items as they don't go thru the kiln. There wasn't a ton of variety in the pottery pieces to choose from, and the prices were a bit high compared to what I've seen in the past. We enjoyed our time. There were only two other parties there so it was very quiet and peaceful. Tip: if you use GPS for directions, it'll point you to the building across from theirs. They're right across from the Russian School. Their sign is a bit hidden. They do have a free parking lot.

I tend to shop here for educational items for relatives and friends' children. The staff is very friendly and patient, even when you have no idea what you are looking for. The store is well lit and well organized, so you know relatively quickly whether the item is available. The have undoubtedly the best selection of educational materials for all ages of any store around. That said, they are rather pricey and it is easy to blow through whatever budget you may have had walking in. I would suggest shopping here last, as many things can be found at Target, Amazon, and other outlets. If there is something in particular, especially harder to find educational aids, then this is your place. Just prepare to spend accordingly.

Lakeshore is a really good place for the items that are rare. Special board games, art supplies, and even classroom decor (no where sells that stuff anymore!) have huge presences throughout this place. Lots of variety, very colorful store in general (it actually is too bright in here sometimes), and lots of unique and innovative products that aren't found in any other store. I definitely get more for a buck at WB Mason, and probably shop there three times as much as here, but this is the place I get things that are fun, useful, and normally for activities that are memorable for kids. Staff are always friendly and definitely search out the clearance tags here, they are a goldmine! Make sure to bring the 20% off coupons they send out and are sometimes on their website. In closing, great place for teachers to shop for any classes from Kindergarten - Grade 8. Don't expect the lowest prices, and I would never suggest buying crayons or pencils here. They will be lots cheaper online or at Staples down the street. 4 stars for Lakeshore. Located in Newton on Needham Street (technically, it's on Industrial Place). Exit 19A off Rt. 128, turn right at the HomeGoods (Industrial Place) and the store is the last storefront on the right side of that side street.

The store has a warm, inviting atmosphere with thoughtfully arranged displays that make browsing enjoyable. Every section feels carefully organized, and there is always something interesting to discover whether you are shopping for yourself or looking for a unique gift. The selection is what really makes this shop stand out. There is a great variety of high-quality notebooks, fountain pens, journals, greeting cards, and art supplies, along with plenty of creative desk accessories and small gifts. I especially enjoyed looking through the Japanese stationery and beautifully designed paper goods, which are not the kind of items you typically find in a larger office supply store. The card and wrapping paper selection is also impressive, making it an easy place to stop when you need something a little more thoughtful for a birthday, holiday, or special occasion. One thing I appreciated was how curated everything felt. Instead of being packed with endless products, the store carries a collection that reflects quality and creativity, with a mix of imported stationery, locally made items, and unique gifts. It makes browsing feel more personal, and I found myself noticing details in products that I probably would have overlooked in a larger retailer. The atmosphere adds just as much to the experience. The relaxed setting, friendly staff, and inviting displays make it easy to take your time exploring each section. The Paper Mouse also hosts workshops and creative events, which fit naturally with the store's focus on art, design, and craftsmanship and help make it feel like more than just a place to shop. Overall, The Paper Mouse is one of those neighborhood stores that is worth visiting whether you are a stationery enthusiast or simply looking for a thoughtful gift. The combination of carefully curated products, welcoming atmosphere, and creative spirit makes it a shop I would happily return to whenever I am in the West Newton area.

I did a multi hour private class for which I paid a premium, I felt OK about it and good about my decision afterwards. I planned on returning to continue with the same teacher, however when I called to arrange, I was told that the teacher had been dismissed. The lady I spoke with explained that the dismissal was not for ability or quality of teaching, that the studio ensured the quality of teaching always met the studios high standards. When pushed however I was told that the dismissal came as a surprise to other staff members, but was also not a surprise as the studio owner requires 'yes' teachers to all requests, and that he is VERY commercially minded. This teacher was clearly NOT a yes person, just very competent and a thoroughly nice person! What also surprised me was the extent to which she supported the studio, despite what seems to have been one way from the owner! So a very disappointing conclusion, maybe I will be able to arrange private classes with her, but for anyone considering the studio for classes - buyer beware and don't believe the very believable owner who will say anything to get the business and revenue. It's a shame he behaves in this way, but I strongly believe it can only be the start of the end for the studio
