Arts & crafts galore, picture framing wonderland, and all the holiday decor you can think of. I just stopped by to see if they might have some cute Christmas-themed signs or trinkets for my new apartment and was blown away by the amount of stuff they had. Not to mention, the shelves were fully stocked for the most part! It felt like all the Christmas stuff was all on sale?? I mean everywhere I looked it was either 40% off, 50% off, or buy 1 get 1 50% off. Trouble for me that's for sure. This was a fabulous surprise. I went in looking for the possibility of some cute Christmas stuff, and left with and entire carriage full of stuff: a 7 foot fake tree, white lights and colored lights for my tree and to put up outside, garland for my fireplace that looked real and not tacky, a star topper, fake greenery to put in a vase, and more. The fake trees on display really take the cake here. They are all out on display the second you walk in, so you can get an idea to scale of what they look like with their lights on as well as the size and height of all them. They were on crazy sale and even without the sale it seemed like reasonable prices to me! I come here often throughout the year but this is the place to go if you're need something for the holidays! read more

Buyer beware - today for the 2nd time this week I have waited over 2 hours for an online order . Order was never fulfilled until I tracked down an employee. They had a couple people working the floor none were interested in helping customers . One was even walking around practically sprinting away if she thought a customer was headed her way. I had ordered 2 candles on a shelf at the front of the store when you walk in. I only placed the order online instead of just buying them in store because only one coupon was available and only applicable for online purchases . This location has really gone down hill - very disorganized, rude employees , and just overall a bad experience. I was really only frequenting this location as it is close to my home but it appears that I will need to start going to the Westwood location . Really unfortunate but just not acceptable business practices or customer service . To top everything off this location never has half the items available at near by locations . Save yourself the trip. Hobby lobby is a much better choice with a vast selection . Never encountered any thing even close to what happens in Newton. I will not be back read more

They have the broadest selection of paint supplies and craft choices. It is getting harder and harder to find places where you can look at stuff in person. I hope they are around for awhile. What a terrible experience I had at this store. No one asked if I needed help. No rub on transfers, decoupage paper, no cart paints. Terrible floral selection. Frames were way over priced. This is for the custom-framing service specifically. I brought in several dozen works on paper, looking to have them matted for an exhibition. I let the specialist know I had a $400 budget, so would do as many as possible within that budget, prioritizing the larger pieces and one-off sizes (since I could bulk order mats for whatever was left and mat the remainder myself). Most of my pieces were 9"x12", with a few 8"x12", 11"x17", etc. I spent 2.5 hours while the specialist photographed/measured/calculated.. in the end, for $450 (yes, it got bumped up) I could only mat 15 pieces. Cripes. So I expected, for $450, the result would be fantastic. Not so. Two weeks later, I go to pick up the pieces, and find they've been matted askew, corners/edges offset, artwork in the corner of the mat instead of centered, visible tape on the edges, mats coming apart, and, because they're matted on foam-core for some odd reason, chewed-up along the edges. They look a mess. AND one of the mats is empty. No artwork at all. The specialist who did the work is present, but not helping me. The other staff who are start searching the place, looking for the missing art... Was the plan to just send me home with the empty mat and hope I didn't notice I was short one? Finally, another employee comes back, and says Anna, the specialist who did the work, couldn't find the 15th piece when she went to mat it. So she assumed I took it home with me... Ummm, Anna, you CHARGED ME $30.81 to mat it, so you think maybe calling to find out would've been appropriate?! Again, what was the plan for when I picked up my order with this piece of art missing?! Sigh... I refuse 6 of the matted pieces and ask for them to be redone. It takes another 4 days (the event was in 5) and I thankfully found the missing piece of art (I matted it myself) and got a refund for its matting charge. I will NEVER use Michaels' framing services again! The pieces I matted myself turned out way better and certainly didn't cost me $450! read more

I wish this place opened before I got married because god knows I traveled really far and more times than I would like to remember for my DIY wedding projects! I love this store, its so clean and organized- there is even a second floor with EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to do with framing and wood supplies. The only thing I don't like is the lack of staff in the aisles- there is none! So I had to bother the young lady in the front cash register who was literally the ONLY one around. This could be because no one really knows about this store opening and so therefore not much customers leading to no hiring staff. There is a parking lot so there is plenty of space. If you husband gets bored I usually send him across the street to the Starbucks to wait for me. read more

Jeanne helped us to select colors, determined the optimal size, and despite being alone with a long line of customers awaiting her attention, made sure that we, and everyone else in the line, went away happy. Anna, who assisted us at pick-up, went above and beyond to help us finalize our project. I brought a bunch of posters to be framed last month during this amazing sale. Unfortunately one of them got a little damaged. The manager Scott reached out and was super apologetic. I can't say enough good things about the experience. He replaced the poster and framed it. How he handled the whole situation was above and beyond. My daughter had her birthday party yesterday from 4-6pm. We started 5 minutes late and ran until 6:30pm. When I signed up for the party with Jurelle, I was told it would be an hour for crafts and an hour for food/cake. At the start of the party, Jurelle informs the kids the crafts will take 1.5 hours. 30 minutes for food, singing and cutting/eating cake is not sufficient in my book. Maybe if I cut the cake prior to singing and lighting the candles, it would have saved time and we wouldn't have gone until 6:30pm. But who wants to sing with the cake already sliced up? Anyway, when the second craft ran to 5:17pm, I went up to Sam, and asked what happens if we run over 6pm. She had no idea and needed to ask Jurelle. When asked, Jurelle firmly said we wouldn't go over 6pm. I asked her again, WHAT IF we go over? She again reassured me we wouldn't. Well, we did and the kids had to take home their third craft to do at home. Jurelle gave brief instruction on what to do but never showed any final products for anything. Later last night, my daughter remembered there was a missing craft -- the owl bookmark. We booked the Woodland themed party package and there is an owl bookmark pictured and listed in the description. We could have gotten that to go home too, along with the third squirrel craft. Also mentioned is a drawstring party bag for the guest of honor; we did not receive that. Your two staff members who hosted the party, Jurelle and Sam, were extremely disorganized and it appeared as if this were their first time running the show. A few of the other parents also observed the lack of organization with your staff members. When the tables were initially set up for the first craft, they also put down a paper which was for the second craft. The kids starting cutting everything out and it was so hectic trying to figure out which pieces went where. Nothing was labeled "first" or "second". Everything looked so similar to these 7-12 year old kids. So when it came time for the second craft, some did not have the proper pieces as they appeared to be scraps and were cleaned up and thrown into the trash to clear up the table for free workspace. I had to ask Jurelle for a few extras for the kids to cut out and she didn't have it so she needed to get more. That added more time onto the party. Also, with one sink and having the bucket in it to rinse the art supplies took up space in the sink and the kids had difficulties washing their hands prior to eating. I HIGHLY suggest putting a giant container of hand sanitizer there for party use. I asked Sam and Jurelle whether they had sanitizer and Jurelle insisted having the kids line up to wash their hands would save time than going around and squirting sanitizer for each kid. Um, no. It's obvious neither Sam nor Jurelle have kids as it wasn't a big deal to them to have the kids clean their hands prior to eating. I'm sure you guys don't properly sanitize your chairs, paint brushes, scissors, aprons and whatever else the kids used for the crafts. Now regarding the food portion, I requested for the pizzas to be delivered at 4:45pm thinking the crafts would be completed by 5pm. No, the pizza sat there and got cold until the kids ate at 5:45pm. I also had ice cream cups to go with the cake. I asked Jurelle to get them from the freezer. She told me the kids had to take them home. The kids happily enjoyed their ice cream there while in the room. I was not going to rush any of these guests. We were the last party and the store closes at 9pm. Why the rush? Oh because Jurelle wanted to go home. I saw her leaving while we were packing up the car to go at 7pm. Prior, she told my father-in-law she was tired, wanted to leave and that the kids shouldn't have taken so long to do the crafts. Well, you should have somebody who is younger and energetic to host the parties. You should have been more organized and allowed the party to be three hours instead of only two or cut down on the crafts. Bottom line is that these crafts take time, so allow ample time for the kids to craft and socialize a bit. Regarding cleanliness of the restrooms, there was a single women's room and it had no paper towels. The toilet paper roll was not in the dispenser. It was sitting on the handicapped handrail. Who knows how many times it has fallen onto the floor? Jurelle said we could use the men's room during the party as it was right next to the party room. I wasn't going to bring the girls into there. I didn't check, but I assume it must've been a single restroom for the men too. I couldn't believe they didn't have multiple restrooms with stalls in the women's room. I will never have another party at this location with your staff members. read more

Don't use their custom framing service. I was promised that the framing for my artwork would be ready on 4/20. I called them today, more than a month after the promised date, and they said that they'll start the work tomorrow. Fortunately I was able to get a refund and went to the custom framing store right across the street from them. I don't understand why they can still be in business with the recent data breach and poor customer service. read more

My specific experience: After a while, decided to re-visit the Newton location. Jeff wasn't there (thank God!), and Jean was, who was friendly (as always), and the store was the same is it always should have been, clean, organized and extremely cool (2 floors, and cool store design, yet with the manager Jeff, anything was possible. Hopefully he doesn't work at the Newton location at all anymore, because they definitely took an upturn. Thanks to Jean, Caitlin and District Manager Steve, this still is one of my favorite Michaels stores..... I look forward to returning. Actual store: Very organized, clean and well kept. No, it's not the biggest or best Michaels around (that would be the one in Westwood), but for the smaller space they have, they do a great job with it. There are two floors to this location (with a ramp and stairs) and the bright windows on the top floor effect in such bright aisles. Sales are magnificent (this is for all Michaels stores...), and anything that is full price you absolutely MUST use a coupon on. There are coupons all the time, and they match AC Moore and Jo-Ann Fabrics, so find one of theirs if easier (there was a previous issue with this, explained in my previous review; however, I do not think the man who had the issue with it still works here). Clearance aisle is always eventful and the layout is different but works well and has flow. (Also: VERY MAD they are not allowed to use plastic bags anymore, City of Newton..... now no plastic bags??? where are my drive thrus!) Not so mad at them anymore. 4 stars. read more

I had an issue with an employee at this location. I was treated very rudely over a silly $4 issue by the manager on duty. I'm not going to waste my time writing what it was about because I've already explained my issue to the manager on duty and to Michael's corporate. Both times I asked to receive a call from the store manager and both times I was told I would get one within 24 hours. Three months later, I'm STILL waiting for that phone call. A moot point now because this experience has soured me on Michael's. Haven 't been in this location or any other since, nor do I plan to. read more

It's very rare that I get the level of amazing customer service that I received during my two last two visits here. One of the employees walked us through the aisles trying to find items on our shopping list for a wreath making class. When we came back the night after, we were looking for a specific wreath and when this location didn't have it, another employee stayed on the phone with another store for a long time to try and find it. Neither of them had to show the level of attention and care that they did, but they did. I was also approached by a few store employees asking if I needed help throughout my visit. As I have a toddler with a sticker obsession that also loves to color and paint, I'm a frequent customer at this Michaels store. The store itself is pretty clean and well organized. They do sell out of things in the quick side because it's a small store so you have to be on top of things if you are looking for something specific. The employees are mixed reviews as some are very friendly and helpful while a handful seem to not care whether you are there and you are a bother to ask a question. My most recent positive experience was with the manager Kenny. I had been to the store multiple times looking for some frames that had been on sale and sold out every time I went. He was kind enough to let me know when the next shipment was and to honor the sale price even though it was a few days after the sale. Thanks Kenny! read more

It's in a good location and usually isn't too busy. The items they carry are mainly for general crafts. They have a big selection of scrapbooking, framing, and seasonal items (Halloween, Christmas etc) Their jewelry making section isn't as great as Acmoore, nor is their drawing selection.They always have coupons in the paper or online which is great. read more

I have to agree with other reviews about customer service. The cashiers are very nice but other employees are rude. One in particular is a woman with short dark hair. I think she may be the manager because I saw her helping a cashier with an issue. My 3 year old and I went to buy some crafts today, and he picked out a Mickey Mouse book. He sat on the floor flipping through the book while I looked at the scarecrows. He was by no means damaging or ripping the book. The employee walks up to him, and he promptly gets up to get behind me. She looks at us and says in the rudest way ever "are you going to buy that?" And I was taken aback and just responded "yes". I can't believe she would walk up to my toddler like that and not even say excuse me or anything else to me. Of course I wouldn't let my child damage your property. Also, he was just sitting there and not ruining anything. I will think twice before going to this location again read more
