Clearly not my kind of children's clothing place. I'm just fine with Savers $4 shirts that are practically brand new or Carters $8 for the splurge. Obviously this store is catering to a different crowd. Also, they didn't have a changing table in a children/baby store... no thanks.

I wandered into the Clever Hand for the first time yesterday afternoon while strolling through…read moredowntown Wellesley, and wandered out with 3 gorgeous, local artisan-made pieces (handloomed bamboo scarf, hand-dyed silk scarf, and glove leather belt with carved wood "buckle"), none of which I had expected to acquire but could not possibly leave without! The store is stuffed with lovely, one of kind or limited run things that reflect the vision and interests of individual, Massachusetts-based artists--so much more satisfying to browse than a big box store full of mass-produced stuff. The artisan/salesperson who checked me out (she works in paper, making cards and charming wall collages for children) was welcoming and helpful, and my checkout experience in no way resembled the one described by a previous poster. (Frankly, I was a bit taken aback by how indignant that poster got over her frustrating experience--seems she loved the contents of the store, but knocked it THREE stars for inefficient customer service? That seems disproportionate and unfair...)

Very happy about this but slightly overwhelmed. The one thing hanging over my head was the kids stockings. For them, the stockings are even more exciting than the big, wrapped presents. The thought of rifling through all the junk on Amazon or fighting the crowds at Target was daunting. Enter Astrid, the owner of CouCou, which recently moved from the South End to the hip WinSmith Studios in Norwood. I contacted her and she immediately responded with 'you got it. I'll take pictures of what I gather for each child and you can tell me if I need to make adjustments.'. She's also wrapping each gift and on top of that using one paper for my daughter and another paper for my son. We all shop on Amazon for the convenience but my god, how nice is the personal touch. A holiday PSA moment to SHOP SMALL. God bless you, Astrid- youre my Christmas miracle.

I'm a stay at home mum- I'm not working, so buying 5 articles of clothing and then some for $85 is a little insane. I only make $50 a week from my husband to spend on whatever I'd like. That's my issue though but to spend almost 2 weeks of allowance on minimal items in not so great condition? It makes me feel sad but I'm sure my toddler will love wearing them. So, thank you. I am still disappointed in the value of the old clothes and the new- as they're all far too expensive for the condition they're in.. and the new are more expensive then when they're new. I know your business has to make money, but the whole point of a hand me down store is to make sure your items are affordable. Unfortunately, I probably won't be back until prices lower because I just can't afford the prices. I've read many wonderful reviews on here and maybe it's good for some and then not so good for others. The owner was so funny and sweet and she helped us tremendously through the store and out. Something to note; I had my stroller, so I just want to point out this establishment is not wheelchair assessable from the front of the store. Not sure about the back though. I know you're doing the best you can with what you have, but would you please consider making this space accessible to all? Thanks again!

There's a bathroom with changing table that is family friendly and means if you're in JP with kids you have a place to "stop and go right away" (a little Daniel Tiger reference for the parents). They gift wrap and sell balloons, so it is THE spot for birthdays and holidays. If you become a member, you get sweet discounts, and the 5th Sunday of the month also has special bonuses. Best of all, there's a sign in the window with 2 different names on it every day, and if one of those names is yours, big prize! Even if we aren't planning a trip to Boing, it's always a treat to check the names. The people who work at this store are friendly and really knowledgeable. You go in and say "I need to get a 7yo girl a $15 gift and she's into horses" and you've got 3 options off the bat. I've never had a gift from Boing go wrong, but even if it did, they do gift receipts! After Halloween, you can also donate candy and get credit to use in the store- perfect for kids who are allergic to half their candy and otherwise feel pretty glum with their trick or treat haul.
