I've driven by here multiple times and finally stopped in. HUGE selection; almost too much, as I was barely able to fit a small umbrella stroller through the aisles. I'm a stay at home mum- I'm not working, so buying 5 articles of clothing and then some for $85 is a little insane. I only make $50 a week from my husband to spend on whatever I'd like. That's my issue though but to spend almost 2 weeks of allowance on minimal items in not so great condition? It makes me feel sad but I'm sure my toddler will love wearing them. So, thank you. I am still disappointed in the value of the old clothes and the new- as they're all far too expensive for the condition they're in.. and the new are more expensive then when they're new. I know your business has to make money, but the whole point of a hand me down store is to make sure your items are affordable. Unfortunately, I probably won't be back until prices lower because I just can't afford the prices. I've read many wonderful reviews on here and maybe it's good for some and then not so good for others. The owner was so funny and sweet and she helped us tremendously through the store and out. Something to note; I had my stroller, so I just want to point out this establishment is not wheelchair assessable from the front of the store. Not sure about the back though. Man, what a mess. The prices are insane. $26 for a used mini Boden dress? You can get a new one for that in their sale section at any time. $18 for shoes so worn they should be In the garbage. $120 for a used dirty car seat... when used car seats shouldn't even be sold because they are no longer safe and cannot be verified as not being in an accident. Not to mention that there is so much junk and product thrown everywhere. It's so packed you can barely walk. I've been here twice and both times I was shocked by the audacity to charge such crazy prices for used clothing. Do yourself a favor, take yourself to the used kids store in Belmont. The owner is lovely. I walk out with a bag full of clothes every time. Mini Boden, Hatley, Hanna, Tea, etc all between $4 and $12 each and all in excellent condition. I LOVE this store! I am a single mom with limited resources and since the owners found that out they have bent over backwards to help me out. They took the time to get to know me and my daughter and they play with her every time we come in. They pay well for used kids' stuff and even accept maternity wear. We went to drop off/ sell some of our daughter's toddlerhood equipments, all in pretty good condition. We got a very little price for that. We didn't care, because our objective was not to make money there. Then the woman said she would give us check and started haggling the price when we said we wanted cash instead. Not only is the customer service are exceptional (the owner, Marina, and her staff are friendly, prompt w email communication, and go above and beyond to help you find what you are looking for, even if they don't have the item in store, they will try to get it for you). I found this store to be the perfect place. It's just the right size, in the lovely neighborhood (Newton) bordering Brookline/Brighton, with expert staff who were knowledgable to help me with my needs...which I HIGHLY recommend you register with them. I find Fancy Pants a great resource, especially for shoes. Money is tight, and so buying our toddler new shoes every 4-6 months would be difficult. But finding children's shoes at thrift stores is also really difficult! Most thrift stores only have a small selection and you're lucky if you can find anything in your child's size. Maybe if you're an expert thrifter and have space to store shoes for months, or years ahead of time that could work, but we live in a small apartment. Anyways, I love that I can go to Fancy Pants and have a pretty great chance of finding a selection of shoes in my child's size. I also love that he can try them on and wander around in them to make sure that they are comfortable for him. Also, I love that with shoes, there is a 10 day return policy--so much better than the final sales at thrift shops. Last year we also bought his winter coat at Fancy Pants. Prices are a bit higher than thrift stores, but well worth it. My son loves roaming around the small store on his own. It is very cramped with stuff, which is a bit overwhelming, but it is a small store, and feels safe. read more

Coming here today was a complete waste of time. First when I came in the girl working at the front desk wasn't very enthusiastic. It was my first time here and she wasn't even helpful as to what I should do with my stuff. I brought a HUGE bag of clothes sizes (nb-6 months) that my daughter can no longer wear, obviously. We also brought some pretty popular and barely used items, Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper, Boppy Lounger, Bumbo, some amazing Mobile still in the box, Bright Stars Bouncer, a bottle warmer, humidifier...anyways you get the point! We looked around the store and I was taken aback by the prices. I thought this was a resale shop...if I wanted to pay $10 for some baby clothes they could at least look cute. After an HOUR of waiting and looking at their ugly and overpriced selection the woman let us know that out of our HUGE bag of clothes she chose TWO OUTFITS. Yes...TWO. She then tried explain that the items were off season or something. My boyfriend asked her about some jeans that were in the bag and she said that they were part of a set and she couldn't sell just the jeans. Um WHAT! I saw so many hideous jeans in there that didn't even look like they had been WASHED but these spankin' new, never been warn jeans she just...CAN'T TAKE. Ok. **Update** I just looked in the bag and saw the shirt that the jeans went with...tag still on it!! Smh.. We ended up taking the boppy, humidifier, bottle warmer, rock n' play sleeper back with us because she claimed these items don't sell. You have got to be kidding me... Anyways, I do not recommend coming here. I'm planning to put my daughters items on ebay. She was born in February and has pants & jeans & sweaters galore...I just don't understand how this woman did not take THOSE items. I think some of the reviews of this place are little harsh. First, off, nobody wants your used 0-6 month baby clothes from Old Navy. Old Navy has so many sales that you can get the clothes for next to nothing new when they go on sale. So crying sour grapes isn't helping anyone. And boppy pillows & bumbos and all that large plastic Babies R Us stuff doesn't sell either---look how much of it lays on the curb on garbage day---I think we got all of that stuff for free--people can't wait to get it out of their houses! The woman has the right to take only the things that she think will sell, so that means, either an a really expensive brand, in pristine shape, or something really cute or really useful. If the things don't sell than she has paid the buyer and is out of pocket. My kids are past the toddler, baby stage, so I wouldn't consider buying any clothing unless it was something really exceptional. So that's what she needs to take. I have to say, for a consignment store it is very, very clean--and it doesn't have that funny closet-like smell that most of them have. The stuff they had was in really good shape. They had music on and I like that the owner was the one doing the buying. As a family we are past the stage where we need lots of kid stuff--but if my kids were still that young, I would have found buying stuff there very helpful. I give it a thumbs up. read more

Having been to a number of second hand children's stores, I have to say this on is probably one of the best run I've been to and also carries a wide variety of items (strollers, toys, books, clothing, etc.) at a range in of quality airing on the higher end of good quality and gentle use. Pricing shows you if an item is resale or overstock from a retailer. Credit cards are accepted and receipts are itemized. Consignment is available by appointment. the space is tight but one should desire a place that makes the most of it! I wouldn't recommend bringing your little one... I bought a bunch of things for my gal. The pricing is actually a bit higher than I would expect from a second hand store (toys, excellent quality, ran from $4-7 each), but the quality and selection were so good I was satisfied. Parking is limited to the busy street... And that area was quite trafficky at the time I was there so plan ahead! And plan to get more than you would expect! read more

You have to squat down to see the newborn clothes, which is the last time you would want to be squatting! Warning to those who may shop here with their kids. I was there this afternoon looking for some games for my kids. They are stored on a shelf that runs across the back and as I went to pick one up, the whole shelf came crashing down on me. I'm talking about 10 feet of shelf and everything on it. They were using flimsy Home Depot closet shelving to hold heavy boxed kids toys. One landed on my face and I've got a black eye and all I can think is thank goodness my kids weren't there hanging out next to me as all the boxes would have fallen on their heads. Came here on a Sunday to check out the selection. First thing I noticed was how cramped it was. There was a lot of stuff, but difficult to sift through. My husband and I were looking at a stroller in the front section of the store. We could barely think because the guy behind the counter was blasting a movie from his phone though the speaker system. The movie was violent and seemed to have a shoot-out with people groaning and dying for a solid 10 minutes. I'm no prude, but it was not appropriate for a children's store, especially at that decibel. Conveniently, the speaker was right above our heads, so it was deafening. We could barely hear each other and it was difficult to try and compare the strollers. We ended up giving up and just leaving. It was maddening. I can only guess that the guy didn't want anyone in there and decided to blast a violent movie to chase people out. It was truly bizarre. read more

The Newton location of this chain is run by a mother-son duo who only have in mind maximizing their profit. The store is cramped and disorganized. It's hard to even maneuver around. The clothing racks are so tightly packed that you can barely move the clothes, and they're not well labeled so it's hard to find the section you're looking for. The two workers who were there when I visited the store did not offer to help me find anyting but continuously made comments like "we have great prices", which they don't. After spending half an hour squeezing through the hot cramped store trying to find what I was looking for, I made my way to the counter with a stack of books and three pairs of children's pants. The man painstakingly checked and entered the price of each of the 25 books I had in my stack, most of which were cheap paperbacks. He took the reusable shopping bag I brought for my purchases placed it on the floor behind the counter and appeared to be putting all of my purchases and that bag. But when I got home I realized that one of the three pairs of pants was missing, yet I had still been charged for them. I'm fairly certain that if that are pants had fallen on the ground behind the counter, he could have seen them in about a minute of my leaving and come out to bring them to me. I suspect he either intentionally kept them out of the bag, or that they fell out of the bag and he is just too dishonest to have returned them to me. The whole experience made me uncomfortable. I did not like the high pressure approach telling me that the prices were so good and the store is a complete mess. I will not go back to this location . read more

They're super hit-or-miss both with buying and selling. I've tried to sell back some things that were purchased from there and never worn, and they didn't take them. They don't give you any feedback on what they actually do take either -- when you ask why they didn't take your bag of basically new clothes, they just say to look at the website, and they claim they'll buy anything that meets the guidelines. The website says nicer brands (in which they include Children's Place and GAP, so we aren't talking super high-end) in good condition, but they don't seem to actually go by this. They didn't want never-worn or barely worn Ralph Lauren, Baby Phat, Tommy Hilfiger, Tea Collection, or Mini Boden. Yet when I'm browsing, I've found a good amount of Old Navy, Circo, and the like. They used to buy/sell a lot European and Asian brands and a lot more vintage wooden toys and things like that, which was nice. I'm not sure what exactly they're going for these days, but it seems inconsistent and less cohesive. The book and game selection is kind of lame too. They don't seem to buy or sell much in the way of school-age books or games. It's mostly toddler and preschooler stuff. The things they do have are pretty nice and in good condition, but if you go in there to browse with older kids, they won't find a lot that interests them. Oh, and they don't seem to have kept up with how clothing brands are doing expanded youth sizes for larger kids. I think they only do up to size 12. I'm a grandparent who is always buying clothing for my grandsons. Fancy Pants is one of the best places to shop. I sell them outgrown clothing as well as buy from their vast amount of shoes, clothing and toys. Their pricing is fair and they only sell items that are clean and current. I was looking for a cheap double stroller for a disney trip. The owners husband, Mark sold me a stroller that was for display at the store. Apparently they also sell stuff in the store on facebook and craigslist. I had noticed the post on facebook as I had never heard of the store He wanted me to pay cash but because it was at the store I opted to use my card. I noticed the umbrella of one side(it was a double stroller) wasnt working. The guy at the store(different man) also noticed and said I could fix it at home. They charged me 100 dollars. I glanced around the store briefly as i had a sick 1 year old and an impatient 3 year old. I paid for the stroller and some mittens got my receipt and went home. When i got home i noticed the front wheels were on wrong. This isnt my first stroller so i fixed them. Then I noticed there was no breaks on the stroller and no break bar. This was concerning. Lastly, I tried dissembling the umbrellas and learned that it wasnt me but the umbrella was actually broken. I put it off as a busy working mom until the weekend. (3 days) I still couldn't fix the breaks or umbrella. I took the stroller with kids to walmart. Thing was aweful. I notified the seller as I bought it from the store with receipt and he told me too bad and actually accused me of possibly breaking it. I had photos of the stroller in the store, wheels backwards, no break and umbrella awkwardly folded. I was told too bad for a refund. I bought a 100 product that is completely useless for my children because its defected. I will never shop at this store. The man kept telling me it was a private sale but again the stroller was on display in the window when I drove up. I only heard about the stroller from facebook but as far as I'm concerned, I went to a store, bought item on display, paid tax, received a reciept and was denied for a defective stroller. Bad business and husband is scamming on facebook. I have all our messages back and forth. I would have returned but they lost a customer and im spreading the news. 2020: Owner was NOT WEARING A MASK inside!!! NO GLOVES, no precautions taken to protect customers during a pandemic. She touched all my stuff without washing her hands. There were no windows, ventilation, and door was closed- as well as other customers in there and I child over the age of 5 with no mask on. Terrible customer service, extremely rude!!! Lack of communication between the owner and staff. I Went in to sell some equipment, toys and clothes. The owner was very rude and was not wearing a mask inside. She was very careless in conducting the assessment of the items and also did not look at each item in front of you- she went into a backroom so you don't know what you are getting for each clothing item. They just give you a bag of the stuff they don't want. And give you a bulk price - 10 bucks for a bunch of designer clothes and some brand new items. I tried to to explain that I wasn't comfortable with the sale because I was rushed and she was not wearing a mask so I didn't want to spend too long in the store during a pandemic. She just mindlessly pointed and said - 5 for that, 2 for that and I tried to ask for some of the stuff back bc I didn't want to sell it for that little and she scoffed at me and ran away to help another customer. Made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable. It was very awkward. DO NOT try to sell your good baby equipment here if you expect to make any money. Only got 5 dollars for a $299 like-new bouncer and $2 dollars for barely used Mellisa and Doug toys. She takes advantage of you if you don't know what you're doing. I called back after and tried to explain that because I felt uncomfortable with her not wearing a mask, I hastily agreed to sell my items for a low price and regretted it. She screamed at me on the phone and said "I am very busy and don't have time for you! Too bad. It's done now!" And literally HUNG up on me while I was taking. Unfortunately I should have done my research ahead of time. I will NOT be returning here to sell or buy and will be telling all my friends and family about this horrible experience. Good customer service, responsive, friendly. There is a good variety of clothing, toys, shoes, and equipment. It's hard to leave without finding something I want/need. It's my go-to Boston area kids consignment shop. I've sold clothes and items there as well. They only select items in like new condition so keep that in mind when bringing anything in. They have to resell those items so you're not going to get top dollar but I understand it's a business and they need to make a profit. I love Fancy Pants! I go there whenever I need shoes or toys for my little one. We've gotten fabulous items - including a wooden toy kitchen, a push wagon, a fold up tent for the porch, and all the balls or manipulative puzzles a toddler enjoys - and all in good condition at way lower price than on the regular market. It's great for baby and toddler items. I imagine that we'll find it less useful when our son hits 5 or 6. I value not buying things new, for environmental reasons as well as financial, and it feels great to get the things I need gently used, all while knowing I'm supporting a local independent store. I have found Gene and the other folks who work there to be helpful and friendly, even measuring my 22 month old's feet to help size for shoes. Returns are easy, and I've even brought shoes back months later that he outgrew very quickly. As long as they are in good shape and they are needed in current inventory, I can get a few dollars of store credit for them. I see people on yelp who are angry about the store not buying back things. I've worked in retail, and it's not just about the quality of the item. You have to need it in your merchandise selection, based on current inventory. I can understand them not wanting to explain a reason for every item they don't want to buy back. Certainly I'd expect and want them to be polite about it - but that has always been my experience. I do recommend going without your child, unless they are small and in a baby carrier. It is a crowded space without visibility, and is best for adult browsing. If you go with a child, they should be prepped beforehand that the visit will be quick and they need to stay close to you. If you're used to shiny box stores or very ordered and spacious stores, it will be a new experience. Personally, I like the old world feel.
