Very good selection of quilting cottons although not the cutest stuff and some limitations on colors. For example, there may be a really cute pattern in blue and green but you won't find the same pattern in any other colors. I find I can't source the majority of a quilt here. I do like that I can see solid colors in person, this is really helpful. Price per yard on all quilting fabrics is excellent. Ability to find novelty fabrics is good. Overall I find I don't do as well here as I used to do when they were in Framingham. Quilting tool selection is also limited. read more

FPB is my Natick destination shop (along w/Aldi)! I literally always find what I need. I teach needlework and used to repair Singers for a living. The staff are super nice, helpful and they get my sense of humor! The other day I made a booboo while checking out and they were calm and pleasant when they had to re-ring up my whole stack of quarter yards - no eye rolling, just a deep breath and a wide smile. I was "having a day" and they couldn't have been more helpful. My latest find is their skeins of Queensland cotton worsted - the colors make my potholders sing and it has a great hand feel. This place hates its customers - I've gone three times and each experience has been agonizing. The staff are so surly and rude - whether it's asking a question about a fabric or trying to get something cut - everyone working there acts like customers are a massive imposition. This is obviously an ongoing issue so I have to assume the owner doesn't care. It's too bad Joann's went under - the staff there were so much more pleasant. read more

I visited the natick store late yesterday afternoon. I was looking for some solid colored fleece fabric for a granddaughter's dragon costume. I didn't see solids, so asked a clerk who was cutting fabric if they had solid fleece fabric. She very very rudely told me that they aren't Joann fabrics, and don't keep stock fabrics in their store. She continued to explain, with a condescending attitude, why they don't stock fabrics. It was a terrible response to a pretty benign question ( considering the fact that they have many solid cotton fabrics). They have nice fabric but they have lost a customer due to rudeness. read more

I love fabric place basement. I used to live in the area and frequently visited. I now live in NYC and frequent the garment district. You might not believe me, but I much prefer FPB to stores such as Mood. Don't get me wrong - mood is awesome, but fabric place basement has a fantastic selection, easy to look through what they have, and I LOVE the remnants and buttons. I come and spend a ton of time (and money) whenever I'm back in the area. They have fantastic value. And one of the only places I can find Sevenberry fabrics. Can't recommend enough. read more

I like it here however there aren't too many people with the expertise to help especially in the yarn department. I went once to pick out a seat cover and they were less than helpful. They showed me what they had and left me alone. I didn't buy it here. I needed more help than that. I was first introduced to Fabric Place (not its original name) in 1951. I was attending Design School, Jackson von Laudau, and we had a field trip to purchase fabric for our final project. At that time fabrics were limited, in barrels and sold by the pound. The main store featured clothing. I picked out two pieces of peau de soi, one piece in turquoise, the other piece was a blue gray color. I designed a quilt type fabric from the two, made a full circular skirt and a peasant type blouse for the top. After graduation, I moved to western Massachusetts. During that time Sportswear, I think that was one of the names, multiplied its inventory and became a full-fledged fabric store. In 1960, I moved back to Eastern MA. and became reacquainted with the original Framingham store. I made draperies for them. I purchased multiple yards of fabric since I opened a Design Studio. I have a long, wonderful experience with the original store and the owners. My heart was broken when they closed the original stores, but a light arose when Fabric Place in Natick opened. This has become my second place away from home and my children and grandchildren are keeping the tradition going. It's the best place in Natick and I encourage everyone who sews to make this their place to purchase fabrics and to take advantage of all the help and advice the owners and salespeople can give you. They are knowledgeable and so willing to help. read more

Fabric Place Basement carries fabrics for garment sewing, home décor, and quilting. They also carry beautiful yarns (I'm not a yarn user, but they appeared to be quality items). Finally, this place has loads of notions and supplies: thread, pins, needles, zippers, elastic, etc. A fun part of the store in the enormous selection of loose buttons. Pre-pandemic, we customers could stick our hands in their and enjoy a treasure hunt. Now, it's covered for everyone's safety, of course. I'm a quilter, and they have a great selection of cotton fabrics. The quilting fabric is mostly $6.99/yd, with batiks priced at $8.99/yd. They also carry batting, both packaged and by the yard on the roll. Fat quarters are $1.99 each. The fabric is shoved by color but also by type/theme. For example: reds, yellows, blues, children's, batiks, etc. I need some light color (i.e., low volume) fabrics, and their selection did not disappoint! As much as I enjoy this place, however, I was prickled by one employee calling another "Nazi" while I was working with the one on the receiving end of that taunt. I completely understand that people have inside jokes, and I do hope those two are friends who enjoy each other's teasing. Using the word "Nazi" as a joke in front of a customer, however, is over the line for me. I love a good ribbing among friends, but we can't always say those same things in front of others. My husband thinks it is possible the one person was greeting the other with her name (possibly she is "Nancy"?), but the first person physically leaned toward her and said it with such animosity that I prefer my version of events. At least they are friends in my version! One is just also a dope. In my husband's mind, they are enemies AND they openly display their hostility in front of customers. Ick. Along the same lines of these folks not being great with customers, no employee greeted me or offered me help while I was there. I was one of 4 customers in the store, and I saw at least 6 people working there at the time. When I asked to have fabric cut, an employee at the cutting table did cut it when I asked and was pleasant enough about it. But I found it very strange to be in such an empty store and have no one try to talk with me. The employee at the register was polite but not friendly. Overall: Great selection and very good prices! But not an experience with any enjoyable interactions. I like to shop in-person at stores, but I could buy from my favorite online retailer (similarly, not a chain or a large retailer) and at least receive a nice "thank you" email after I place my order. read more

Fabric Place Basement = AMAZING. While the variety and selection of fabrics and supplies they offer is really astounding, it's their customer service that sets them apart. Just hours before this weekend's Halloween party, I called (last minute) looking for a very specific craft supply store item I couldn't find anywhere that I needed to complete my costume. After a few questions, Wendy from Fabric Place Basement said "hang on...", put the phone down, then came back a minute later with EXACTLY what I needed. Here's the best part: while Fabric Place didn't sell the item I needed, she had a few extras on hand that she set aside for me to pick up. She didn't charge me a penny. They have everything from garment basics to formal, a terrific selection of upholstery fabrics and a tremendous selection of quilting fabrics curated by color. in addition there are fine yarns, a decent selection of notions and trims. There is a bin of loose buttons that's like treasure trove if you're looking for something unique. I went to Fabric Place last week and found the fabrics, as always, were excellent. I found the 2 employees I dealt with VERY friendly and VERY helpful. Bethany worked with me for quite a while and when she sensed I needed to do some more looking, she put aside 2 bolts of fabric for me to come back to. She gave me good suggestions about the fabric I was trying to match and about the amounts I would need. She is an excellent employee. Also, Wendy at the cash register. She told me about the available coupons and even printed one out for me to use by Jan. 15 when others will be coming out, I think. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. I have recommended more than one person to this store where I have been going to for years. It takes me 35 minutes to get there, but it is always worth the trip. read more

I stopped by Fabric Place today after doing a search online. I needed to find somewhere other than Jo Ann Fabrics for quantity and quality. This place is a fabric lovers heaven. The entire basement is stock full of every fabric you could find, this amazingly huge bin of buttons that were so wonderful. Several cutting tables, friendly people who work there. Decent prices. I bought a quarter of a yard for three fabrics and only paid 5.50. That is super good in my book. I will definitely come back here to do some art projects and this place made me want to get into crocheting again!!! Ill be back. This place is a gem! "Spicy Sunshine" was so helpful! She talked me through all the yardage issues and construction aspects of the upholstery project I had in mind!! I'm a Class A fabriholic, very familiar with all of the Boston area fabric shopping options. I like Fabric Place Basement for quilting cottons, upholstery fabric, and trims -- the selection is good and the prices are decent. This is not a go-to spot for clothing fabric (small and dreary assortment). Unfortunately, I often leave the store feeling like I paid an emotional price for getting the fabric I want. The store is dark and, in the winter, cold. Some of the employees are very pleasant, but others are borderline abusive to customers. Most seem very unhappy to be working there, and in various snits about customers and other employees. One of them treated my like a con artist for trying to use an upholstery fabric coupon for home dec fabric -- like I knew the difference. The owner, Peter, hangs out with favorite customers and ignores the others. I once went to him to complain about quilting fabric that had bled on itself when I prewashed it and he offered me a 10% discount on the unusable fabric and blamed me for washing it wrong (in the washer and dryer, with Tide). I try to buy fabric at another nearby discount fabric store, Sewfisticated, which has a smaller selection but a much more pleasant vibe. The prices are better, too -- $3.99/yard for quilting cotton vs. $5.99 at Fabric Place Basement; all upholstery (or home dec!) fabric for $6.99/yd. It's sunny, the employees are happy, and I leave with my self-esteem in one piece. read more

First, let me say I was in heaven. This place is huge and they carry about anything you could dream of. The owner told me it's bigger than Mood in NYC. Everyone was very polite. I found everything I needed and then some. I was looking for wool and non stretch velvet. Found it! And I found many other things I need to go back for. I also knit, but was too hungry to check out the HUGE yarn section. Next time! I'll never waste my time in a silly chain store again. Go with a full stomach, a full wallet, and snacks. We were looking for some white upholstery fabric, and we went to our favorite local shop but they had been cleaned out from a big sale. So, we lazily checked out Joanne's but they only had one option that wasn't right, so after a suggestion from a sales clerk, we decided to take the hour drive and check this place out. It certainly has a lot of fabric, a good knitting section and some really nice antique displays, but....in terms of white upholstery-Nope. They had a lot of white home decor fabric but no upholstery. A saleswoman tried to help us find something, which was kind of her, but after she couldn't find the fabric, she suggested we talk to Peter, we're guessing the store manager or owner? He however, was not interested in helping, directing us, providing alternatives or really giving us more than 2 word answers. He seemed kind to people whom he knew or that knew what they were looking for, but to provide guidance, recommendations or alternatives for projects, he was not interested. And that's the thing I'm seeing with the reviews of this store, if you know what you are doing and where everything is located, this will be a great shop for you. If you are in need of help (or white upholstery) shop elsewhere. Oh-also, they are located downstairs BUT they have an elevator if you can't do stairs for whatever reason. I've reviewed Fabric Place Basement in the past, basically saying that the fabric is great but the owner and employees are rude and nasty. I had what will be my final visit recently because I've have had it with the abuse. The store has shopping carts, but they pile fabric rolls in the aisles so that the carts don't fit through. (God forbid you need a wheelchair or walker.) Trying to maneuver down an aisle, I bumped my cart against some fabric. One of the longtime "queen bee" employees (with short gray hair) yelled at me, in front of other customers, for bumping the fabric. I'm a 62 year old woman, not a 5 year old, and I'm not used to being yelled at in stores. I'd also like to note that some of the employees do not wear masks, which also feels disrespectful to me. read more
