Another customer and I arrived at the Auburn Fabric Outlet at 5:00pm. My 10 year old daughter and I drove 30 minutes each way after I got off of work so she could buy fabric to finish up a Christmas gift. I knew I would have enough time since their hours (posted here, on Facebook, and on a sign on the door) state they close at 5:30 pm. My daughter knew what she wanted and it would not take us long to get it. We arrived and the door was locked. Both the other customer and I were told that they were closed and had already shut down the register. My daughter was extremely disappointed. It's like a fabric candy store. Shopping there is. Treasure hunt. The store is always neat and organized. There's always a wide variety of fabrics available, garment, home decor, quilting. Can't beat the price and they are good quality fabrics. The ONLY downside is that the selection is unpredictable. You can't go in with a particular fabric in mind. The upside is that the stock changes so frequently if you're willing to check back with some frequency you're bound to find some thing you love. I went here to look for fabric to do a backdrop for my baby shower. It's my first time here so I asked an older woman for assistance but she was so cold to me I could tell she didn't want to help me at all.. I politely said excuse me mamm it's my first time here , can you please help me I am doing a backdrop for my daughters party. I showed her picture of a theme I was going for, she rudely responded I don't know go look at the back wall but the look she gave was with disgust. :( The 2 other girls that work there that stood next to us heard it too but didn't try to help me . I was so embarrassed with the response I had I left. I will never come back here or recommend this place to my friends and family . The staff here was very unwelcoming. When starting new projects I always start here first. This is, as another reviewer states, the Treasure Hunt experience. You never know exactly what they are going to have, but I have never left empty handed. The fabric is a ridiculously good bargain, and they carry good quality notions like GUTERMANN thread and a huge selection of trims for both apparel and home decor. I cannot imagine any quilter not being overjoyed at the selection and prices. The weekend staff are my favorites, they greet me happily and are always interested in my projects and help me try to find other treasures I need. Be nice to the staff! I have been sewing since I was in Elementary school and worked 7 years in the fabric industry for Joann's at 3 locations, and for Fabric Place in Framingham until the closure. Anyone unhappy at their experience here came with unrealistic expectations or attitude. This is not a high end decor shop, where they are going to offer samples and calculate yardage for you. You cannot go in with a highly specific idea of what you want, because it won't be there, let the aisles bring you inspiration. read more

I came into your store as I do every year at this time and asked the 3 women at the counter if there was any white or off-white netting. The tall, younger associate said, "No. All the brides buy it up." So, instead, I went with my next best choices for what my needs were - a light teal organza and a golden brown crinoline fabric. I got 5 yds each for $29.90. As I was being taken care of, I spotted what I thought was white netting in the upper right corner of the store. When she completed the sale, I went to walk out via the upper right corner of the store. Well, lo and behold, there was an off-white cream colored netting!!! I immediately went back to the women and said, "You DO have off-white netting!" No one said a word. So, I stood in line, and when it came my turn, I asked for two separate sections at 5 yds each. No one said a word about it. She just cut it for me. Then, she asked, "Did you ask for netting?" I repeated the way I asked the question, which included the word "nettng. "" When she finished, she went over to the register. She rang me up at 1.49 a yard. She was charging me? "16.49, please." I almost died. I said, "You can keep the other two cuts there. They are not what I wanted." Now, I've paid close to 47.00 for 10 yds of netting. No one offered any solution. The 3 ladies just kept quiet. So, I left with the netting I came in for and now your store can, maye, resell the two pieces of material I originally bought bc I was told there was no white of off-white netting due to all the brides buying it up! I realize that when material is cut, that's it. Sale final. But, when 3 women who work in your store don't even know the inventory OR at least HELP a customer with a request? Come on! They were literally just sitting there together! I am going to make a complaint to the BBB and place a review to YELP online. I was furious leaving your store last night! Furious! Every year, I go to you instead of going to Joann's in Shrewsbury! I should've at least recvd that netting for free last night. Loved this place. I discovered it when passing through. I picked up a couple pieces of fabric. Would have probably bought more, were I prepared. The people were nice and helpful. I had the most horrific experience at this store today. The cashiers were gossiping (two younger and one older) about a Hispanic couple that had just left. I heard the older woman shush her, but she kept on going. I was disgusted and wanted to leave. Instead I approached the cutting/register area to complete my purchase. No "hello" or "can I help you?". Nothing. Their disdain was palpable. The cutter chastised me for placing the bolts on the wrong area. Then the taller cashier asked me for my identification upon paying. What? I asked for the manager's name. At first she just answered, "he's out of Pawtucket". I persisted and finally got his first name. It's Dave. I left there embarrassed, enraged, and saddened. I had forgotten that people could be so mean. As soon as I got home I called the business and spoke to the shift supervisor (the older woman who shushed). She denied everything. In fact she said: "I can't control how you feel." "I don't have an opinion on the matter." "No, I actually DON'T care." People. Is it really 2019? It's a mostly do it yourself fabric store. I bought the smaller packages and didnt get anything off a bolt. I don't really think they are interested in assisting you in any way. Prices are the best. I stopped in this store for the first time on a recent trip. All the fabric really is $1.99 a yard. They have a wall filled with 100% cotton fabrics. Mainly prints with some made in India Batiks. (I was really surprised to see the batiks). There are multiples of the same bolts of fabric, so in reality it's not as many choices as it looks like. There were a couple of fabrics that I really liked and only saw one bolt of out. I asked if they had more in the back and they said no, that what you see is what they have. The fabric comes on 8 yard bolts and some are still shrink wrapped and you can just buy the entire bolt still shrink wrapped. They also had other fabrics that looked like upholstery/curtain/clothing fabrics. I didn't look too closely at those but they seemed O.K.. If you are fussy or need something specific then don't go here. If you love fabric and are open to what patterns you will use then go go go! $1.99 a yard is amazing. They have a wall of notions and trims which I thought weren't such great deals. The staff that I talked to were all nice and had no problem when I asked if I could open a sealed batik bolt to look at the pattern. I ended up not taking it and they were fine with that too. There is no public bathroom so make sure you visit a restroom before your visit. Why is it that you don't need a restroom until you see a sign saying that there isn't a public one? You can't beat 1.99 per yard. Contrary to other reviews, I had the most pleasant of experiences here. Don't expect this to be your full service, "I need help with making a decision", "I need someone to talk to" types of places. If you're looking for extra attentive coddling staff, go to an uppity overpriced fabric store. this store is exactly what they sell it as.: A 1.99 per yard fabric store. If you ask, they will help you. when I was here, a gentleman was looking for flannel and not only did the saleswoman point him to the flannel section, but she also helped him select a pattern based on what he was making and for whom. i was able to pick up a beautiful worsted wool material with a tweed-like look in pink with flecks of green. It will be beautiful for a skirt. Where else can you find high quality materials for so little? Keep in mind though, that you have to have a good eye and willing to spend the time here. There were plenty of cheaper quality materials that I passed over quickly, including a couple Christmas prints I picked up for holiday gifts. read more

It's the TJMaxx of fabric stores. It's hit or miss; unless you come in looking for nothing in particular it's usually a miss. The prices are true to the name of the store so if you are just browsing you can find some steals-of-a-deals here. Their selection is pretty big for a dollar store style fabric shop and the staff is nice. The stock has been a mixed bag every time I've gone in but their notions selection is great - that's usually the reason I head over there since they're much closer to me than any of the big fabric stores! read more

As a cosplayer, this place is a god-send. There's nothing like getting 7 yards of velvet for only $14. Normally this much velvet would run me close to $50-$70(without coupons). So yeah, like everyone else is saying, this place is not like Jo-Anns where you can just walk in and get what you want and walk out. They have different things whenever I go there so it's more of a surprise to what you can find. I found many, many gems in the 3 months I have lived in this area so for me it's worth it. I also have the patience to wait until they get something in I can use for a cosplay. Now, I will say up front, you need to have some sort of sewing knowledge going in. You need to know what you are looking for and what fabric types to use and whatnot. But yeah, other than that, this place is nice. It does get cold in the winter though just as a heads up. This is my favorite place to shop for fabric. The deals are incredible and they are always rotating stock. You just can't beat the prices. I'm usually looking for fashion fabric for costuming purposes, but their quilting and upholstery sections are quite sizable as well. That said, if you see something you want buy it as soon as you see it as it will likely be gone by the next time you return. CAN'T beat the $2.99/yard. Definitely CAN beat the lousy customer service. Went in today and there were two older woman working. Neither greeted us in any way. The dark-haired woman was the worst, so rude and just looked so miserable. Really uncomfortable to be around. My sister said hello to her but it was obvious that it was almost painful for her to respond. We had engaged the other woman, a blonde, in a conversation showing her a picture of what we were making and she was somewhat friendly until I asked her if she would cut the 4 yards of fabric we wanted into 1 yard sections and she said "we can't do that and maybe if you said something before I folded the material I might've made an exception"...now there was no one waiting to be waited on so...really? I hadn't even thought of it until she had cut the fabric and folded it. It was kind of after thought since 4 of us were making this project, it'd be easier if the fabric was in 4 sections. Now her whole disposition changed. "And I need to help my co-worker fold the fabric that she's cutting". She rang us up, handed us the fabric and walked away. As I turned to leave, I turned back to ask for a bag since we had bought a fabric that got all over everything, and neither one would even look my way. I said "excuse me, can I grab a bag?" and the dark-haired woman said "we don't have bags" and I commented that I had been there a few weeks ago and they bagged the fabric and she repeated "we don't have bags" so I said ok and turned to leave and as we're walking away I heard a rude, sarcastic "sorry"! I kept walking but I really wanted to tell them how rude they were but I knew it would be wasted energy. My sister commented to me that they probably work part-time to get out of the house but we both agreed that they should just stay home! I can't believe how many poor reviews I see here now on yelp. What is wrong with the owners or management to allow this to continue there? If either one or both are the owners, I'm amazed they stay in business. This is the first place I go when looking for any fabric. Most of the time I find something great, and at $2.99/yard you can't beat the prices. The key is that I don't go in with a very specific idea of what I want (e.g. blue and yellow floral with stripes) but rather just the colors or general style, and if trying to coordinate with something else I always bring samples (e.g. paint chips, towels, item of cothing). The remnant racks have smaller pieces (less than two yards) for an even lower price. I do have to go elsewhere for notions, but the money I save on my fabric more than makes up for an extra stop. read more

Daddy daughters day and we decided to make puppets. So I went with my 3 year old and 3 week old to get the goods. I have a newborn in car seat in one arm and my three year old says daddy I gotta go potty. So I say OK let's ask the nice ladies if we can use the bathroom. We approach counter she has legs buckled doing the I gotta go dance and we ask if we could please use bathroom. With no emotion what so ever they said sorry you have to use the bathroom at Dunklin donuts up the street. They could obviously see my sweet little girl had to go so bad... I have my hands full with baby etc and they don't even budge I couldn't believe it. So I wrote a bad review.. I needed fabric for an assortment of projects. I was not sure what the store would be like after reading reviews, but was pleasantly surprised! I found amazing fabric - heavy duty, beautiful selection for home decor, lovely selection of cotton for various projects. There was an area stocked with trim, sewing notions and batting. Not a whole lot different than other fabric shops, except for price of the fabric, notions are regular prices. Are they all $2.99 a yard because they're chintzy fabrics? No. Cotton knits of nice heft, for example. Do read the bolt marking, I did run across one marked "As Is - Spots". Didn't see twill, or utility fabrics such as canvas or burlap. Signage: Min 1 Yard Cut, No Public Restrooms, All Fabrics $2.99, No Multicuts, Empty Fabric Rolls For Sale In The Back. I don't get the reason for multicut policy. A woman attempting to buy extensive yardage for drapes asked, they said no, just in case she decides she doesn't want it. ?!? I could bring up 10 bolts of differing fabric, have it cut and ... how is that any different? I expected they'd offer to mark it with tape for her, but no such offer. I love this place!!! I wish I had found it sooner, but found it only after 3 years of living in this area. Can you beat 1.99/yd on good quality fabrics? I think not! Yes, I do agree that you need to go there with no expectations of what to find, and you'll find the best deals. If you go there with a specific fabric/pattern/material in mind, you may be disappointed, unless you're looking for cotton. They always have lots of great, super soft 100% cotton. One thing though, go on a Monday. That seems to be the day they re-stock. by Saturday and Sunday, the selection can be limited, and pickings are slim, but, hey, ya never know! As for the ladies that work there, I've always found them to be pretty nice. They are up there in "seniority", but they really seem to know their stuff, and they're not super stingy when it comes to cuts (I've had enough experiences with people who seem to think that if you ask for a yard and a quarter, they will give you EXACTLY a yard and a quarter, not all fabrics are the same!). As everyone else has said, this place is really hit-or-miss. Their products range from horrendous sequined spandex to he most elegant upholstery fabrics. Their prices are great to boot! They tend to have a variety of quilters cottons in at any given time, plus a lot of home decor fabrics. Anything in between is hit-or-miss. Don't come here looking for something specific, just come here with an open mind. This place is my go-to for getting cheap fabric for mock-ups. I typically test patterns and perfect the fit before wasting good fabric on them, and so anything from the $1.99 store fits that need well. Came here for the first time today. All fabric is 2.99 a yard which is a great price but everything else like mats and scissors was a bit overpriced. They have a great selection to browse through BUT the staff was cold. I tried to chit chat with the employees but all I got was rude short responses. I quilt a lot and this place allows me to buy so much more fabric! If I'm looking for a backing and need 8 yards, I can save so much money. The quality is great name brands, usually discontinued or left over from a line. But do look carefully, I once got a solid with little burrs and after washing, there were white spots where the print didn't go through. No returns for any reason. Not much in the way of solids. Don't think that you'll find everything you'll need. And it's true that the staff is not expected to be very polite. They don't provide a bathroom you can use and they save money on cleaning and toilet paper by sending you down the street to Dunkin Donuts to use their bathroom...really? The workers stand around talking then cut your fabric in a big rush as if there is a long line. So know exactly what you want of each before you go to the cutting table. And only whole yard cuts are allowed, so if you want a little of each, this is not the place. Still, I go here to save money and always find some nice 100% cotton quilting fabrics. Oh, and once I drove over an hour to get there and they were closed in the middle of the day on a weekday. No explanation. (Maybe light snow.) I asked if they had a specific brand of batting and they said no but instead of offering me another brand she just walked away. When I paid I mentioned this was my first time making a bag and mentioned again that I needed batting and the old bat gave me a look of disgust and walked away and had some other girl ring out my fabric.
