Her coworker visibly sighed, appeared frustrated, and abruptly responded, "We're not doing this here!" before going right back to scanning items and completely dismissing us. No apology. No explanation. No attempt to offer an alternative or help us figure out what happened. Meanwhile, our four-year-old son was standing there, visibly disappointed, looking at us as if to ask, "What do we do now?" I completely understand that things happen. Classes get canceled, scheduling mistakes occur, and miscommunication is inevitable. However, what I cannot understand is the complete lack of customer service, professionalism, and basic courtesy. We had a confirmed reservation, took time out of our day to bring our excited child, and were treated as though we were inconveniencing the employees simply by asking about an event Michael's had advertised. Ultimately, we purchased the craft supplies ourselves and went home to do the activity with our son, without any assistance or effort from the store to make things right. The canceled class wasn't the biggest disappointment. It was the way we were treated. A simple apology, an explanation, or even a little kindness toward a disappointed child would have gone a long way. For a store that promotes creativity and family-friendly activities, this experience was incredibly disappointing.
