Great advice, great selection and great prices. What more could you ask for?…read more As an artist, I think finding the right frame for a piece can be critical important to the overall success of the piece. Also, as an artist, I think find affordable framing is critical for commercial success. Post Road Art Center helps with both. They provide excellent advice providing you the options they think work best taking your budget into consideration. Typically, they present a range of options and let you know what they think about each of them. Often, I've found, they will end up suggesting the less expensive choice. This says a lot about their level of professionalism and their quality of service. I also like that they are local business rather than a big chain. They also have a gallery featuring art by local artists which is fun to check out.

While visiting my mother last year, I saw that she was about to throw out an old frame that adorned…read moremy childhood home. It featured a matte with many panes in different shapes and sizes, for kids' photos. Being the nostalgic type, I refused to let her throw it out - but what kind of proper framer would deign take on such a lowly task? As it turned out, Jordan and Brandon at Pitch Black were happy to rescue it. They all but rebuilt it, stiffened and straightened the matte, and handed back a handsome, drum-tight frame that will feature my kids for the next 30 years. When I returned a month later, to ask if they would print some photographs, I got to spend some time with them and observe their studio in action. I was super impressed - not just with the operation (from color correction to matte cutting, frame building and glass cutting) but with their body of work. It felt like all the presentations were different, not just variations on a theme, and I could see how much effort they put into making other people's art look spectacular. The pricing was excellent, and their positive attitudes made me want to print more, frame more, and share more of my work. For me, that's an added bonus of Pitch Black Editions: Brandon and Jordan are really cool, artistically inclined guys who are willing to do exactly what you want, or devise something fresh if you're looking to elevate your work. Cool guys, professional quality, great prices and frames that are built to last. Swing by The Bradford Mill, look for a door on the left side of the parking lot, say hello and never look back. You're in great hands with Pitch Black Editions.

Renaissance Frame Shop - 171 Belmont St., Belmont 02478…read more If you are looking for a quality framer in the Belmont, Watertown, or Cambridge area, look no further than the Renaissance Framing Gallery. The owner, Levon Tokatlyan, is lovely to deal with, with a superb sense of art and artistry. We've used him for over a dozen pieces, from those where he simply exchanged one image for another with existing mats and frames, to far more complex challenges. In one case, he mounted a very delicate piece between two pieces of glass without a mat and added new framing, creating a really striking piece. In another case, he overlaid a second mat on an existing piece with four images within it to create double matting and a much more dramatic image. Very precise cutting was needed, and he rose to the challenge! In several other cases, he worked with me to choose new mats and frames. The pieces all look great! Levon has always done an outstanding job. He is reasonably priced, on time, and easy to work with. He is creative, with a great sense of proportion and color. I highly recommend him. Ellen Glanz
