Driving to The LAP Gallery I caught myself wondering "what is a gallery in Waltham going to be…read morelike?" I mean, Waltham isn't exactly known for its art scene (at least not to my knowledge). I was even less optimistic about attending a show titled "Fuck Yeah America". I figured it would be a show comprised of pretentious, white, male art students bitching about how bad their lives are. I wasn't exactly interested but I was going with a group of people so I figured I'd grin and bear it. As I said above, we did drive and I thought about how inconvenient that must be for a gallery so far outside of the city...then we reached it...the LAP, Downtown Waltham. The gallery itself was attractive. A decent size space with nice hardwood floors. Surprisingly...clean. The show itself was well curated. The work reflected individuals inspired by America but not the preachy, extreme work I had anticipated. The preparatory work was clean and well done. I was very impressed. I was greeted by Pat Falco, 1/2 of the LAP team and found him very interesting and engaging. We discussed the show and the LAP Gallery before I met his partner, Elliot. I can't say how much I appreciate meeting the people who put on the show. Once it was time to leave, I realized there were a lot of other things to do in the area. There's a cool book store next door and plenty of restaurants. It was nice to know that for my future visits I wasn't limited to one space for a trip outside of the city. Go to the gallery, grab some food, walk along the Charles, and hop on the commuter rail back to Boston (if you don't have a car, it's right there!). All in all, good time, good people.

I agree with another reviewer that the director is not only unresponsive to customers, which in…read moreitself is bad for the artists showing their work in the gallery because they miss selling opportunities, but also to artists with whom she has planned a studio visit. She cancelled our first one. Still very enthusiastic about my work, she rescheduled but was a no-show without a word. I thought something had happened to her, but then found she'd posted three days later on social media. So she was alive, anyway. When I contacted her about the second missed studio visit from three days earlier, she apologized and asked to reschedule again, but I'd had it by then. I was tired of moving my heavy pieces into one room for easy viewing (and making snacks from scratch) for her not to show up.

We have reached out several times regarding an artist we had hoped to learn more about, but have found the lack of response somewhat disappointing.

It looked like it should be presented at Thanksgiving. Defintely out of touch with the season. Also less holiday options. My son went through the early toddler years completely uninterested in art projects at school, coloring and other creative outlets. I had always seen the creative signs on Route 20, and had an opportunity to check them out. SO GLAD we did!! My son LOVES Beehive Art! He totally changed at preschool as well. Kim allows the child to explore within their comfort level.. and promotes their own creativity. My son completely transitioned into a budding little artist at preschool, and his attention level to art projects COMPLETELY changed. My son was given the confidence he needed at Beehive. Their work was worth the visit and more would have been appreciated. Much of the student work was dark making me wonder the direction our schools are leading our next generation. Last visit we viewed a gallery of birds, again expecting a member or permanent display of local or collected paintings. When asked about any larger collection, we were told they may have some more art stored elsewhere. The community center probably serves its intended purpose, but it does not display the volume of art that it could. Despite its shortcomings, I appreciate it being open to the public.
