I brought them 10 framed portraits that were many years old and terribly faded. They did their magic and restored them beautifully and thoughtfully. I brought in smaller pictures so they could accurately color match. The results brought tears to my eyes. Such a difference! While it's an increased cost, the museum glass is totally worth it - no light reflections and it looks like the person is right there in front of you, looking out. Not cheap to do this type of restoration, but memories are priceless, right? I am going back with about 6 more framed photos for them to do. Thank you, Frame It Waban Gallery -for a job well done!

I carefully picked out John's shop after searching Yelp all across Boston, and I am so glad that I did! It was clear that John took great care in every step, from stretching the canvas to fitting the frame. He also added a protective lacquer to my piece at no extra cost. I really appreciated his artistic eye in picking out the frame, which is perfect for my piece (so much so that I would even say that it looks like the frame was made for it!). Furthermore, he gave me a really excellent price that worked with my limited student budget. John is a very kind person and clearly is passionate about what he does, and I will recommend Atelier 564 to my friends. I should also add that I brought two additional pieces to John for him to take a look at and give an estimate on, including one tapestry, and upon seeing how I was storing them (inappropriately) he re-wrapped them in a way that would be less damaging. He also gave me input into how he'd frame/mount them, including telling me how to mount the tapestry in a way that wouldn't involve framing and would be cheaper (i.e., in a way that wouldn't involve his services!). Completely free and despite the fact that I wasn't planning to get either framed in the immediate future! He's a really nice guy.

We went in with an idea of what we wanted and John guided us with suggestions. That said, he is very difficult. This last time we were tossed between 2 different frames. We chose one, gave a 50% deposit. When we arrived home and considered the space it was to be hung, we decided to go with the other choice. We immediately called John (we left his store only 30 minutes prior) to tell him we are changing to the other frame. He was nasty, said we were "grinding him" (not sure what that means since we were asking only for his opinions) and said he's too busy to deal with this and to come get our piece. We attempted to calm him down and in spite of his unprofessional demeanor told him we'd be in to look at the other frame. Upon further consideration I decided I did not want to work with someone so unprofessional. When I arrived I asked him what went wrong and he lost it again. Crazy! He the gave me our piece wrapped in paper, not in the tube he was given and when I asked him to put it in the tube for protection, he said "I already rolled it." In spite of his great work....."CAUTION!: STAY AWAY"

I learned that this business had the distinction of being the oldest framing shop in the country dating back to the early 1900's and has remained a family run local business during this time. (Wow! That's impressive!) Initially based out of the Arcade in Downcity Providence, they moved to this location in the 1970's and have continued to expand over time. What you will find today are three massive floors filled with artwork, prints, drawings, ceramics, etc from great local artists in addition to their large framing area. They can handle all types of projects small or large and provide service and support both locally and out of state. They boast quality craftsmanship, lifetime guarantees on their work, and prices that are comparable to what you'd find from the big box chains that offer framing services (no coupon needed!) The difference is the years of knowledge and experience you get when choosing Providence Picture Frame as well as the good feeling you get knowing that you are helping a long time family run store stay in business for future generations. You'll also find friendly employees who care passionately about their business, their community, and helping the customer get exactly what they are looking for. Pro tips: Consider shopping in their gallery for unique and special birthday or holiday gifts. Not sure how to display that special photo, artwork, or sentimental item? Stop by to talk to them about their custom framing ideas and to preserve your one of a kind item for a lifetime.
