you buy an established business with the reputation and despite having issues with sending e-mails and not getting any reply the owner doesn't seem willing to address the problem with his front office staff and can't be bothered to look at the end of the day at unanswered correspondence. I used them before, I go out of my way to avoid them now. . Sadly they do offer services others do not provide in the area so you may have any choice but to with them. If you can't answer an e-mail I honestly don't want to do business with that business. it;s a gallery, the front staff are doing nothing all day. it's just the hard truth read more

Providence Picture Frame - Law Degree - Art Galleries Near Me - North Providence, Rhode Island

We stoped by as part of Gallery Night Providence and I had an opportunity to talk with the owners and shared that I come from a long line of artists and art lovers, in fact, my great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents have brought many of their items here over the years to be expertly matted and framed. I learned that this business had the distinction of being the oldest framing shop in the country dating back to the early 1900's and has remained a family run local business during this time. (Wow! That's impressive!) Initially based out of the Arcade in Downcity Providence, they moved to this location in the 1970's and have continued to expand over time. What you will find today are three massive floors filled with artwork, prints, drawings, ceramics, etc from great local artists in addition to their large framing area. They can handle all types of projects small or large and provide service and support both locally and out of state. They boast quality craftsmanship, lifetime guarantees on their work, and prices that are comparable to what you'd find from the big box chains that offer framing services (no coupon needed!) The difference is the years of knowledge and experience you get when choosing Providence Picture Frame as well as the good feeling you get knowing that you are helping a long time family run store stay in business for future generations. You'll also find friendly employees who care passionately about their business, their community, and helping the customer get exactly what they are looking for. Pro tips: Consider shopping in their gallery for unique and special birthday or holiday gifts. Not sure how to display that special photo, artwork, or sentimental item? Stop by to talk to them about their custom framing ideas and to preserve your one of a kind item for a lifetime. read more

These guys are the best in town - truly. Their work is truly impeccable, they're extremely knowledgeable and they're very friendly. They're my go-to framers, I'm very happy to report. My mother gave me a lovely watercolor of Columbus Circle when I left NYC after having lived there for several years. It's not a small painting at about 3x4', so I knew it would be pricey to frame. Seeing as it's a beautiful piece of art, I wanted to make sure it was preserved and framed properly. I took it to Providence Picture Frame, and they knew exactly what to do with it. They aided me in selecting the best matting to bring out the subtle colors, the most elegant frame that was understated enough so as not to take away from the scene, and what type of glass to use. The glass is actually a very important issue - depending on where in your home you plan to hang something, UV light can damage the pigments. So, we went over all of that and I ended up with something really special. Unfortunately, the old seashell and horsehair walls of my early 1900's home didn't want to hold up my new treasure, and one night I was startled awake by the sound of shattering glass. I ran to find my painting on the ground, surrounded by shards. Luckily, the frame remained almost entirely intact - it had been constructed to break apart in a certain way on impact, so I brought it back to PPF the next morning, and they were able to piece the frame back together, and even replaced the glass at a discount since I'd just paid for it. It looked new again. Since then, I've been back several times. They have an entire section of pre-fab frames, mats and glass so you can make your own for about half the price of custom framing. Solid experience. I have a beautiful silk screened print that is squarish and an odd size. It's also not perfectly cut, so I knew it would be a bit hard to work with. I also only spent five dollars on it so I knew I didn't want to spend that much on framing it. I knew I was going to be a difficult customer all around. I was quickly greeted by a gentleman working there and got to work picking out the perfect pieces to make a beautiful frame. He was able to match the matting perfectly to a deep purple that was in the print. Truth be told the frame I created was out of my price range, especially because I have four other similar prints I want done to match. The sales worker was so cool about it when I told him there was no way I could go ahead with buying it. He was very understanding and offered me some tips on how I could mount the print myself to save some money. The staff clearly believes that all customers should be treated well no matter how much they are spending. I can't wait to go back and get supplies for my other prints. Beautiful frames, gorgeous matting, and phenominal employees. I Highly recommend them! read more

I came here to get a picture that we received as a wedding gift framed, and had the absolute best experience. The staff helped me pick a mount matted and framed, and the result is absolutely amazing. They even helped me change my order to meet certain discount criteria. They were very knowledgable about art/framing, and helped me decide on other decorating aspects for our new apartment. The picture was ready 3 weeks before they expected. Overall, the whole process was easy, affordable and friendly. I would highly recommend going here for all framing needs! read more

Excellent experience getting a large piece of art hung in our living room. Carl was incredibly knowledgeable and not only hung that piece of art, but worked on other pieces throughout the house, getting them to the right height and making sure the best hanging hardware was used. On top of his installation skills he had a solid design sense and consulted on types of art and colors for the future. Couldn't have been better! read more

Years ago I took several pieces in to be framed and upon pick up I was informed one of my favorite pieces was "gone". I asked what he meant by "gone" and was told it was missing and there was nothing they could do. He was super dismissive and because I was young I didn't know what to do except ask to speak to the manager. I was told that person was on vacation and that the place was being sold to a new person so I should come back another time. I left feeling really taken advantage of and never went back. I have a feeling that missing piece was stolen by him or one of his friends and I was reminded of this incident when I saw some of the other pieces in my storage unit and decided to look up their current value. The missing piece was valued at over $1000. read more

We have used Providence Picture for our office on numerous occasions. The folks there are incredibly friendly and helpful. The company is on a pretty strict budget, and they helped us pick some fabulous pieces to fit the space and the cash constraints. Carl, who came to hang the pictures, is a delight. His work was impecable, and he helped us move a few of our existing pieces. We have loved all our experiences with Providence Picture Frame. read more

This was my first time at the store. What an amazing place to just browse around and enjoy local artwork and some cool historic art and maps. I went with the Yelp group for a craft night and it was so much fun! Definitely swing by and check it out. I can't speak to their skills or framing but we did get a tour of their workshop and it was pretty awesome. read more

I had a custom piece of artwork that I needed frame for work. I called PPF and they were able to print out the art and took time to show me a variety of mat and frame options until I was happy with the final choice. They were able to rush the frame to be completed in a very short deadline and when I noticed a mistake in my artwork- through no fault of theirs- they kindly reprinted and swapped the artwork for me. Yes, their prices are more than Michael's or one of the big box stores, but PPF is a local, family owned and operated shop that has been in business for 100 years or so. Their quality and customer service and attention to detail are unmatched. read more

When cleaning out my parents' house, we found a hand painted photo of my mom as a little girl. It was in a nice beveled frame but there were pieces broken off. I brought it in to see if it could be reframed. You can't find new frames like this anymore, so they recommended restoring the frame. I couldn't be more pleased. If turned out perfect and was very reasonably priced. Highly recommended. read more

For the first time ever, I needed one of my photos printed and framed to hang in a gallery exhibition. The printing department worked with me over the course of a half an hour or more, making adjustments and a second print to get the tonality and detail I was looking for. I got a 16x20 and an 11x14 and they both came out exactly as I'd hoped. I took 'em straight across to the framing counter, where a framer helped me through the selection process quickly. All I had to say was "I'm on a budget" and she quickly helped me find a great combination of frame, mat, and glass that makes my photos look professional at a price I could swing. All in all, the experience was so good that I'm sort of looking around for other photos to print and frame. The work is excellent and the people there are top-notch. read more

Years ago I was told about Providence Picture frame because I needed to frame a picture. My experience then to my last trip a couple of days ago to purchase from the gallery have been outstanding! If you are updating your walls or need a gift this is the place for you. I always find more than I came for plus the staff are extremely helpful & seem to make it even easier to buy art. As good as it gets, truly. Providence picture frame is huge in size and offers endless combinations for framing and matting your work. This company hits the mark; their printing and framing expertise offers an end result which uplifts the artwork to its intended rightful place. The printing department at the front of the store is especially knowledgeable and helpful, offering many options for both printing and photo restoration. A pleasure to consult with! Also, a shout out to the behind-the-scenes individuals who expertly and impeccably craft the finished framed product. There is not a single speck of dust under glass nor is there anything to give hesitation that your art is not in the best of hands. That is important if you happen to scrutinize your artwork closely and have high standards for your framed pieces. Providence Picture Frame is about the only place in the area that has met my high level of expectation for the finished product. Depending on what you are buying, prices range from low to high. Most recently, I had two positive outcomes--restoring and printing family photos and printing and framing works of photography. Frequent patron! My family has been going to Providence Picture Frame for a number of years, often to buy already framed artwork to give as gifts and also to print and frame works of professional photography. read more

Absolutely phenomenal experience. Carl from Providence Picture Frame expertly hung seven pieces of art throughout my home. I was very reluctant to attempt measuring and hanging these pieces on my own. In just one hour Carl worked magic advising me of proper height and location and then executing. The end result is breathtaking. The customer service proffered was above and beyond-- from scheduling to completion. If you have art to hang I recommend you take the worry out of the task and hire Providence Picture Frame. You will be delighted. read more

Had a VERY rare and expensive beer sign framed there because I believed their advertising that they were the best in the business. They also assured me that they were insured in case anything happened. It came back with a four inch crack ...which they are doing everything they can do to not take responsibility for. First they said the crack was there when I dropped it off. Now, according to their insurance company , they are saying I did it after I left the store. I will obviously NEVER go back. I have to hire a lawyer now to take care of this. Absolutely disgusted! Tried to add photos...not sure if it worked. Also wont let me leave zero stars. read more

This place is truly professional offering a range of services with a touch of class and friendliness. They offer art, frames, framing services, plus a lethargic Weimaraner that is great company :) Today, I went to pick up a glass and backing for a frame I picked up at Michael's - no biggie. Since it was built for canvas, it did not have the prongs to hold in place the glass, picture, and backing. They were nice enough to do the prongs for free. Not only once, but twice... because the first setting got wiggly and fell out. The second time, they installed better and more secure placements. Now I can be assured it will be safe. They also offered a free hanging harness. I will definitely go back in the future for any service needs that arise since my friend does a lot of screen printing. read more

During a WaterFire last year, I purchased a print and wanted it framed. After some research, I settled on this company, and boy was I glad I did. They're fantastic. Each review here is spot on. And they have such a beautiful selection of artwork to browse--totally fascinating. Service is better than 5-star. Quality, too. I'm very impressed and will absolutely return when I need further work. A PVD gem. read more

Outstanding quality and service! My husband and myself have been very happy with the outstanding work of the entire team at Providence Picture Frame. We received and incredibly generous wedding present in the form of a PPF gift certificate, and completed a project that included the framing of art work and family photos. These were very old photos that involved restoration and resizing, and each came back better than we expected. All of our finished framed works were delivered and hung in a very professional and esthetic way. Providence Picture Frame thank you for your fine work! We will be back! read more

I would like to further update my review of Providence Picture Frame. Our initial horrible experience has been totally remediated by the professional and personal attention given to us by the owner, Geoff Gaunt. Our current exhibit at the Providence Art Club turned out beautifully, aided by the good work done by Geoff and his staff. Although it will be hard to forget what happened that day in January, Geoff has done everything possible to turn this into a positive relationship. Thank you. read more

Terrible experience. I called ahead to ask if they could trim a mat for me because it was too big for the picture that I wanted framed. They said yes, so I drove over there and was told that they could not do that and a mat cut to my specifications would be $30. Not bad, but more than the couple bucks I thought I was going to spend! But the main reason they get 1 star is that the primary woman working with short white hair was extremely rude. Not only to me, but also to the other woman who was helping me with my questions (who was actually very nice and sympathetic). It felt like I was not welcome there since I didn't have an expensive piece of art to frame and did not want to spend a lot of money on the frame. One star for the nice lady who helped me and the guy who greeted me, but otherwise, terrible feeling going in there and unclear expectations. I'd rather just order online with that kind of customer "service" read more

I recently visited the Providence Picture Frame and didn't have a great experience. I was the only customer in the store and the staff briefly looked up at me. No one would even say hello. The only living thing that wanted to communicate with me was a large dog. Not one of the staff would say if the dog was friendly, or do you mind dogs. I walked upstairs and the dog followed. He started sniffing me in places that made me feel uncomfortable. The dog seemed harmless but sniff my shoes, not my crotch! I love dogs, but I have a bit of a problem with large German dogs because of my ethnicity and past history. I'm upstairs in this dingy, large area with lots of framed prints, mirrors and frames. The upstairs was freezing and still not one person in sight , only this dog who is following my every step. I'm starting to get a little freaked out. My imagination starts to take hold of me. I feel as if I'm in a Stephen King movie. Am I going to be attacked by this dog, is anyone really alive in this store? Did I enter the Twilight Zone? My better judgement took hold, the dog was really friendly. The store has a large selection of merchandise, but it seemed highly overpriced. The reason I say this is because I saw the exact same print in another store for $115 less. The lesser priced print also had a double mat. Maybe the frame made for the large increase in price, but I couldn't see much of a difference between the two frames. I finally found something that I really liked, but it was out of my price range. I returned downstairs and asked if the photograph could be purchased in a smaller size. A person, whom I suspect was the manager replied in a very unpleasant tone "it only comes in one size". Well, at least I got a voice, they are alive. The answer seemed ridiculous for a photograph. It wasn't a commercial print, but a signed and numbered photograph. I'm sure photographs can be ordered in different sizes. There is a very strange ambience to this store. No one seems happy to be there, except for the harmless dog. In conclusion, the only positive aspect of the store is the large selection of frames, prints and posters. The negatives were the high prices and the overall experience. If I could sum up this store in one word I would say"cold". A very cold experience in many ways. I recommend the more intimate and polite frame shops. read more

Top notch! I've had several pieces framed here over the years and they always do exquisite work. I splurged for the museum glass for a very special piece and it was well worth it. My husband is an artist and, when he doesn't frame his own work, he brings it to PPF. I had to have some pieces framed for my church and PPF suggested the perfect frame: one that was discounted so it was within our budget but still had some interest to it and went perfectly with the prints. I've had great experiences with all of the friendly, helpful, kind employees I've worked with here. They even donated framing to my children's school auction, which I thought was extremely generous. Are they the cheapest framing store? No, but they offer an outstanding product and service at a fair price. I'll be a loyal customer for life! read more

The sales woman that helped me was chatty and helpful but the overpriced mediocre framing was a disappointment. The custom work done for me was just so-so (reminiscent of work from Michael's craft store), and it cost me a fortune. You can get decent framing at any of the other Rhode Island frame shops, including American Picture Frame (a bit of a hike to West Warwick, but decent, reasonably priced framing) or Picture This. I should have done my homework before spending a small fortune at this frame factory. At least I know better for the future. read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had. I took a piece of expensive original artwork to be framed here and sorely regret it. First, the women at the front counter all seemed to have an attitude and dismissed my framing and matt suggestions. Second, I could hear the owner yelling at and demeaning his employees. Third, they charged me an outrageous amount for a simple frame and matt job. Finally, and worst of all, they lie about their services. I specifically requested conservation glass and acid-free backing and was repeatedly assured that it was their policy to use those materials. Well, several months after I got my artwork home, it faded. I had a local framer take the frame apart and found regular cardboard had been used for backing and the glass was just ordinary glass. The back of the artwork also showed some mishandling. Never again. Providence Picture Frame may be the biggest and oldest game in town but it's also be the worst. read more
