I walked in shortly before closing to view their exhibit, "Land, Sea, and Sky" and I was quite pleased that I had chosen to do so. The curators are engaging, knowledgeable and easy to speak to. I found them quite amicable and easy to work with both before and after I decided to purchase a piece. I had a lot of questions about 1 piece in particular and ultimately I ended up contacting the artist to learn more about the provenance of the piece I was interested in. I ended up acquiring 1 piece from the gallery and I liked it so much that I have since purchased an additional 2 pieces from that series. I now own the full collection of Nina Weiss's "Waterways" series that were painted as part of Philadelphia's "Art in the Open" invitation only, judged event. Nina's pieces have been displayed all over the world and are held in many high value collections. You need to see one in person to view the depth, texture, and technique - I think they are fantastic! Nina got her undergrad from Tyler School of Art and Design, and a higher degree from RISD, hence the Philadelphia / Rhode Island connection. All 3 paintings from that series are now displayed in a prominent place in my home, where they bring me nostalgic joy as I reminisce on familiar scenes from my time spent traipsing about Philadelphia each and every day! I haven't had film developed since the '90s, so I was certain I was going to end up at a chain, but I decided to look for a local business. Kerry's far exceeded my expectations. I walked in and explained to the woman at the counter that I hadn't done this since likely before she was born. She took my email and told me I would get a message when the film was done and that my scans would be sent via a link. They offered me my negatives, but the first roll was only a test and I said scans alone were fine. I was not expecting my pictures within an hour, but that was the turnaround. The scans were magnificent. I bought a new roll of film while I was there, and the selection is much better than Walmart's and the price was fair. I'm floored with my first experience at this lab. Not only will I be shooting more now that I know I have a lab in the area, but this is where I'm taking all my business.

I love peeking in to see what is new or what favorite pieces remain. I bought. a painting from Mike Bryce at the Wickford Art Festival about 4 years ago. It was my first original art purchase ever and my first major purchase for my new condo. It is sunflowers (my favorite) and continues to make me smile when I pass it hanging in my dining room. Mike is an unassuming artist. He accepts compliments with a blush and offers beautiful landscapes of RI, as well as mermaid fantasy. The lobby of the Providence Marriott has 3 LARGE RI landscape-mashups that I am completely in love with. His pieces are affordable too, which is a bonus. I enjoy buying from people that I genuinely like. Mike is definitely one of those pieces. If I ever move away from Providence, one of his square Waterfire paintings will be coming with me.

There are plenty of headshops with overseas glass that looks radical, but all copied without the techniques and attention to detail. It makes one proud to have a piece made by the person who originated the design. Be a comparison shopper, examine the quality (since American glass doesn't always mean there will be no problems here or there), but don't expect to get a deal. I see from other reviews Steve has a reputation for lecturing- But enjoy it! Nobody else will be this passionate about their products.
