I started my day with a leaking kitchen pipe. I took the piece with me and headed to Ace. Of Course I could not find a match to what I brought in! So I asked an employee for assistance. She called over her walk-in talkie.... And that is when Steve (guy in the black shirt) walked into my plumbing emergency. Steve told me I was totally in the wrong aisle and he confidently took me where I needed to be. He took the nasty used pipe out of the old grocery bag I had it in, and got to work. He found everything I needed. He had to cut the pipe as mine was not able to take a kit piece. By bringing the old piece in he was able to cut what I needed to size. I was in and out, so quickly! I am disappointed in the new atmosphere following the remodel of the Westlake Ace store in Arlington, TX (near Pantego). The re-organization is not the issue but the modernization and changes from the country store feel are not to my liking, particularly the change from hometown/country music to the hip-hop music. I do not understand why you would think this will bring more business since the store was almost always bustling with patrons. I often shopped there just browsing the isles and finding items of interest because it was comfortable. Well, I guess those days are over. Arlington Hardware is and has been a great neighborhood hardware store for at least 20 years. I remember going there as a kid with my dad and now I find myself there at least once a week buying odds and ends for the house. It's not where you'd want to go to buy doors, lumber or the big things that you can only get at Home Depot/Lowes, but for screws, light bulbs, hammers, and all the little stuff and personal attention, it is great. You can always find an employee to bug about your project and they will help you willingly and explain exactly what you need to do. I need that as a new home owner fixing up a 60 year old house. Are the prices the best? Not sure, but I never leave having spent more than $20, so I barely notice. Screws are something like ten cents a screw so you won't go broke shopping here. read more

I'm always suprised when I go here how great the customer service is. I can ask anyone in the store for assistance and most are fairly knowledgeable of all areas. Had a girl (red hair, dont remember her name!) assist my wife and I in the paint section try and help us choose a custom color we needed in high gloss. Was like trying to find unobtainium but she gave it her best. They were updating the store so there was lots of chaos and other customers needing paint as well. She was polite, patient, and professional. I wish they were cheaper on some things like the other 2 big box stores. However, if they were, there would be no 5 star customer service. I grew up going to an old ACE store on Lamar back when that was still a Kroger, hardware store, and Wolf's Nursery. In my memory, the entire Cooper/Lamar intersection was gold. I'm sure it wasn't because not a single thing I listed has been there in the last decade. This leads to a natural inclination to shop Westlake on Park Row. It's a great for when you don't know what you want. There's guys in there that actually know stuff. And not just from a computer trainer or a bad YouTube video. A lot of the time, these employees had experience with the thing you're trying to do. I used to work at Lowe's. I know everyone advertises experts to help you, but I had walked in with part-time seasonal help experience at a local nursery and was by far the most knowledgeable person in the garden department. The least qualified was our department "specialist". While there were guys working with me that had excellent knowledge of the product, most were young guys trained by a computer. Customers with no absolutely no knowledge and a very simple problem were easily helped. An actual problem was most likely never getting solved. Not the case here. I remember having a goofy old ceiling fan with a light that had a peculiar switch in it. An ACE employee helped me out to the best of his ability. We made several educated guesses based off his knowledge and it worked perfectly. What's more, he was interested in knowing if we solved the problem. He asked me to call in and confirm that it worked so if anyone else brought in the same sixty year old multi-function switch, he could better help. It was awesome. I am currently an art major at UTA and needed to find a place to cut some glass for me for a project of mine. Being a first timer to the type of project I'm doing, I made some mistakes with my measurements needed for the glass. Don B. in the service dept. was super patient and helpful and after a 3rd visit, I finally got it right and he only charged me for the initial cuts. I'm so grateful for this! The customer service is great and I was greeted/asked if I needed help every single time I went in, by multiple employees. I felt comfortable going in there(I usually get ignored in other hardware stores) and while roaming the aisles there was always an employee near just in case I had a question. As much general store as hardware store. Despite not having as much floor space as a big box store, I rarely can't find something I need there. I also appreciate how easy it is to get around, and the staff is knowledgable, friendly...and available. I like being able to park close to the door, easily find what I'm looking for, and be on my way in much less time than with the better-known competition. It's also fun to roam the aisles looking at their non-hardware offerings. If you return an item get ready for the head cashier to be rude. My debit card I made the purchase with was stolen, so I asked for the refund to be put on my new debit card or get cash back. I did have my receipt. She said the bank could transfer it to new card card. No they can't I called the bank, they said no that the debit card no longer exists and no record of it anymore, that they need to refund it to the new card or give cash. I've been shopping here for about 30 years but no so much anymore. I've gone here primarily because of the great customer service. However, I bought a Sthil leaf blower with a 3 year warranty. I found Sthil to be the most over-rated blower on the market. I've owned several blowers and none were as finicky as this: a royal pain in the butt. I took it in to Ace and they gave it a "tune up" (which I had to pay for). I kept having issues because it would start but would not run past idle. I took it back to ACE. Someone called me 2 days after I left it for service to tell me there's a problem with the carburetor. This simpleton then proceeded to tell me that the warranty would not include replacement. I told him I didn't expect a new blower, just repair it. I had to keep calling to check the status and even spoke with a useless manager named Xan 3 times. Xan did nothing to solve my problem. Sthil did nothing to solve my problem. I went back to Ace and picked it up from Xan. I then went to Lowe's and bought a new blower. I'd rather spend my $200 with a store that has ALWAYS stood by their warranty on any product. I'll still go to Ace for a screw or bolt but for any product that costs more $5 I'll go to Lowes. Too bad for the really good long-term employees, not that losing my business will hurt them but one of the long-term employees told me in confidence they are now having management issues with the store. Something that I found to be true. This kind of customer service, pathetic product and "I couldn't care less" management will lead to the store's demise. read more

Great place! All I needed was screws to replace the ones in a door knob that were stripped. I figured I'd have to buy a whole new door knob just to get the screws. The young guy that helped me could tell the brand I had by my key. He opened a new package, pulled out the screws then found the right screws in their screw bins. All that to sell $1.10 in merch. In this day of big box stores and discount hardware locations, it is nice to have such a helpful crew of people to give you personal attention for your project. I hate going to the big box stores after coming here. I love how close it is, they have everything you need, plus it's easy to get in and out. It is more expensive to shop here then the big box stores, but you don't get the same treatment. Every time I go in, there is always some one right there ready to help. They don't just tell you it's on isle 67, they walk you to exactly what your looking for and make sure that what your looking for will fix your problem. Can't say enough about this place. The only downside is the price is a little bit more and sometimes checkout can take a while but worth going. read more

Ace use to be where you went for excellent customer service and specialty items. Now, they are just like the others. Went in with a plumbing question and the guy called to the back to check and see if they had it. After 10 minutes I asked again and he said he didn't know because no one answered. Then went to another department to ask about a grill. The person there had no info about it and couldn't suggest anyone in the store who could help. This is a Very Expensive grill which I guess they didn't want to sell. And you wonder why we shop online more these days. What a shame! The same items are available at Lowes which is where I went after today's horrible experience. read more
