Extremely disappointed with the service and food. We placed a to‑go order, only to find out they lost it. After they finally re‑entered it, we waited another full hour with zero communication from anyone on staff. Not once did anyone check on us, offer water, or even acknowledge the delay. When the food finally came out, it didn't even arrive all at once. On top of that, I watched customers walking behind the bar and hugging on the bartender like it was a private hangout instead of a place of business. This was my first time ordering from Westgate. I've heard great things for years, so decided to give it a try. I've been on the hunt for an amazing turkey grinder in the Lansing area for years, so I was excited to see it on their menu. That said, it's just okay. They season the bun, which is nice, but otherwise just doesn't taste like anything but salt and grease. Had to try the pizza because that's supposedly the showstopper. I really wanted to love it, but again, it's okay at best. The crust was pretty burnt all the way around and it just didn't blow me away. To sum it up, I won't return. read more

Best way to describe this place - hole in the wall with awesome food. I am not sure that I can give a "Yay! I'm a fan" four-star review but a solid 3 maybe even 3.5 will do. The area is a little shady? Not much around and in the middle of nowhere. I don't live in the area, so I wasn't sure what to expect but saw how good the Yelp reviews were, so I figured it couldn't be that bad. The building is a concrete structure with nothing to it. We walked in and felt all eyes on us - we aren't from the area and the locals could tell. Drabby décor and could use some paint. TVs throughout along with a pool table. There was a wood burning stove in the corner of the restaurant that was an unexpected touch. Our waitress was friendly, maybe a little too friendly? Our group was offered shots by a patron and I declined, so our waitress took my shot. I guess it didn't go to waste? Bartender took my friend's shot that she did not want. Wild group I guess? The biggest con was the wait for food. It took at least 40 plus minutes for some pizza and fries. Could not believe how long it took with simple bar food. But I will say this place made up for it with how good the food tasted. Everything was good. My BLT sandwich was crunchy and delicious. Fries came out piping hot and tasty. They reminded me of state fair fries. Ranch was good along with pizza/breadsticks. A local hang out for sure - but food is great. read more

Yes, this joint feels like a true tavern. Maybe sticky. Perhaps a little dark. A part of Lansing's auto history? Yes. We came for burgers. We received a bit of sassy/fun from the server. This place used to be really good. However that has turned! The ceiling was leaking water into the drink well behind the bar. The bartender went and grabbed a plunger from the nasty Mens room and began plunging the sink behind the bar! No gloves and did not wash his hands or the sink. It gets worse. He then put the ice scoop on the counter next to the plunger. You cannot make this stuff up! Stay away this place is nasty! read more

Huge burger, fantastic meat, cooked perfectly, handmade, fresh and juicy medium rare... The bun looks huge, but it's light and fluffy and lightly grilled... Great flavor to go with the burger. I don't give 5 stars very often, a 5 is comparable to an A+ and there aren't too many of those. With that disclaimer aside, the wife and I were planning on going to a restaurant nearby at is was closed for New Year's day so we came to this place because it was open and had good reviews. The neighborhood isn't much to look at, not to suggest it's shady, it appears there was a plant nearby that is now gone and all that is left is vacant land. Then outside of the building isn't much to look at either, it's not run down by any means, just non-descript. The inside is something to look at, it's modern, clean, and comfortable. We ordered the cheese bread for an appetizer and the house pizza in a thin crust. The cheese bread was loaded with cheese, very tasty, a little more doughy that I prefer but there were tasty and the wife was very complimentary of the ranch. The pizza was good, loaded with toppings, you certainly won't leave hungry. It appeared that the crust was homemade or at least it tasted that way. Leslie, our server, was fantastic. Attentive without too much attention. It was impressive that she was both waitressesing and bartending at the same time and she was able to do both fluidly. read more

Lived here for years and have drove by this place a thousand times. Took a chance after reading the reviews today since it's close. Why we have never went there is a shocker. Small but friendly. Kind of takes you back to the day when GM was still there. Clean, great waitress Steph I believe. We got a pizza and smothered chicken. Pizza was good, I will get thin crust the next time and the chicken breast was very good. Got out of there with a $31 bill with all the food and three drinks. If your on the fence take the chance. My wife and I decided to give Westgate a shot, and had dinner there. It's a very typical small bar. I few televisions around with a single pool table at one end of the dining area. The food was quite excellent. I had the bacon cheeseburger with curly fries. My wife had the lake perch with their "housemade" fries. These seem to be fresh cut fries. The burger was outstanding and the curly fries were pretty tasty. The perch was reported as being excellent. The housemade fries had good flavor. However, they were quite greasy and had a little too much salt for my wife's taste. Overall though, it was a pretty good meal. **01/20/14 Additional ** My wife and I stopped in to Westgate tonight for some pizza. We ordered the House Special. We both thought it was quite delicious. A nice, thin crust. The outer rim of the crust was slightly burned, just like a hand-tossed pizza should be. We will definitely be going back for pizza in the future. read more

Some of the best dive food in Lansing. I prefer their pizza over DeLuca's and their burgers are phenomenal. The neighborhood could get sketchy at night but I've never had a problem there... although I would go out of my way not to leave a car overnight. read more

Best Burgers in Town hands down. French dip is also awesome. Pizza is very tasty. Homemade soups are perfect. All the items on the menu is very good. Do not judge this place by its outside appeal. This use to be a shop bar. It is located on the southwest corner of Saginaw and Rosemary behind the carwash. This is across from where the two GM plants were torn down in Lansing Township. You absolutely have to try this place. The owner Mike is a great guy to talk with. Lunch or Dinner you cant go wrong. The inside has been recently remodeled. Awesome food for sure. read more

Came in around 7 and there was quiet a bit of people there. Not sure what to do , we sat near the pool table. A guest there said that we might want to move because other people will be playing soon, so we took his advice and sat next the heater thingy. There was one waitress for the whole place. She did a good job. She brought out a pizza that was burnt, and asked if we wanted another, yes please. I still nibbled on the burnt piece and it was still pretty good! I heard about this place from a friend who said they have a 20" pizza. The pizza was indeed 20" and tasted like heaven. They put tons of cheese and toppings on the pizza from edge to edge. The Westgate is a small local gem. Food is great, arguably the best pizza in Lansing. On any given night you can find a lot of the bar regulars bellied up to the bar. Overall this is a nice little tavern, I just wish they had a few more windows for some natural light. read more
